This film is FANTASTIC! Neeson Rush Thurman and Danes are perfect. Especially Rush. He's the greatest Javert!

You have to love how Javert keeps up "I will find you!" as his head's smacked against a wall.

he has a one track mind. That is why it is so impressive when he finally showed mercy- it killed him to do it.

AMAZING film! It’s quite refreshing to not have a carbon copy of the book (which is a masterpiece in its own different way), but rather a piece of cinema which takes the plot and does its own thing with it. My favourite film adaptation of Les Mis, followed by the 1935 one with Charles Laughton which is fantastic too.

God I HATED Javert in this scene! The poor woman is dying and he says the cruelest things in her final moments.

Geoffrey Rush is so gorgeous as Javert! I love him. The other three are perfect of course.

What I always found confusing about the musical version is why Javert chose to confront and attempt to arrest Valjean alone in the hospital while in most other scenes Javert was always accompanied by at least two police officers. Had Javert had backup, they probably would have been able to overpower and arrest Valjean.
At least in this movie version, Javert told his backup to wait outside of the hospital. Maybe Javert got a little arrogant and cocky and wanted to handle Valjean himself.

Javert thinks Valjean is extremely violent at heart and is well aware of his immense strength. He faces him alone in order to avoid risking anyone elses’ life. Javert is a fanatic, and definitely wrong, but he clearly holds his other officers in high esteem. I’m sure he wouldn’t risk his mens’ lives needlessly.

Valjean, At least, we'll see each other plains, Monsieur le maire, you'll wear a different chain...
Loved that so much! I don"t see this version yet, but it's seems incredible!

“Before you say another word, Javert! Before you chain me up like a slave again, listen to me, there is something I must do!” It is great, and Liam and Geoffrey are amazing.

I didn't like this movie tbh... Didn't like how they changed Javert's character up. For starters, Javert is not that dirty of a cop. He saw those men attack Fantine, then arrested her. He would never do that. He tried to arrest her because he just arrived to the scene, seeing the man be injured and he believed him. Also, this Javert snuck into the barricade to get to Valjean? No, in the original story, he's trying to maintain law and order in france. He goes into the barricade to spy on the students and gets caught by Gavroche later. Why did they change Javert so much in this film? Plus, they made him a coward. I hate that...

Even though I don't think Uma Thurman was very good as Fantine, the way they filmed her death and the confrontation - its almost exactly like in the book. Only she was not hoping to die, she still held out hope - until Javert appeared.

How tall is Liam Neeson? Because Geoffrey Rush is 6' yet he looks quite small in that scene. Apperently there's only 4 inches between them. Was Liam Neeson standing on a box to make Mr Rush look punier? I wonder...

I find many who love this film, as well as the book and the musical versions, seem to not fully grasp it’s meaning. For such a vacuous culture the West has sadly become nowadays, with nominalism/positivism and moral subjectivism replacing traditional Christian social mores, I am not the least bit surprised by this.
Mercy is never earned. It can’t be. If it were, it wouldn’t be mercy. Forgive. And that means EVERYONE. Yes, even the people you hate so much and clamour “lock them up and throw away the key!” because you don’t understand their political convictions. Everybody means everybody. Not “well, most people, all except that group over there.” If you have no forgiveness in your heart, then you will not be forgiven. The world cannot give you this kind of forgiveness. Only Christ can. Forgive.
