PointCrow, I really appreciated you opening up about Synesthesia and explaining it. It made me think of my Epilepsy in trying to explain to my neurologist about the 3 different types of seizures I have. Trying to describe the feeling you have and make it so another person understands can be so hard. Then they think they understand or use words that make you say, “No, don’t say those things because I don’t experience that and don’t want that in my head potentially impacting how I perceive a situation.” 😂 Again a very VERY different condition but I appreciate you opening up about this and I learned so much! Thank you for all you do!
As someone with aphantasia and prosopagnosia, I find your experiences with synesthsia so fascinating! I cannot begin to imagine how that feels, but it's ki d of cool that you can use it as an extra memory checker. I'm amazed and fascinated!
Gotta say your videos like this where you do a long commentation and explanation over one of your runs, are EASILY one of your best. The effort can really be seen, and the videos themselves are always just such a big ole blast to watch. They take alot of time, but it's really impressive. Thanks for making these!
Wow super good work on this run yay!!!! Also very proud of you for opening up about your synesthesia. We get people saying dumb stuff like "ohh you just associate the two" without actually understanding how your brain works, so me and my headmates hope you don't get any rude comments like that:)
About synesthesia : a friend of mine decided to memorise pi. Not whole obviously, but a good 20 ish numbers. He tried to explain to me how, and basically it's like a story because he naturally links numbers with vibes and colors. Like, "a litle chick climbs up a tree and eat a sweet" because nine is yellow, six is green and eight is sweet, for exemple. I find it wild, but cool
Anyone can do 20ish. I did 60ish just by reading and reciting it from a book over and over. And yes, obviously not whole as a decimal expansion. In that form, we can't know the exact form it takes. You can know exactly how it is in other forms though. 4-4/3+4/5-4/7+4/9-4/11+... That's π, and we know every detail about this series, given that it has a clear pattern.
@@lrose5522 but it's irrespective of the synesthesia. It's just memorising numbers. I thought the stories would take forms that focus on it. I was with some bоу, and he said we should write animals in the colours that they are. For example, lion was light blue. Obviously I wasn't able to do it, because I didn't know which colours were mapped to each animal in his head.
I'm gonna say it. Eric, you're actually insane. I would've never even tried to attempt that kind of thing. AND YOU BEAT THE GAME THIS WAY. That is just mind-blowingly impressive!
i’m not done w this video but i’m really enjoying it. i’ve really enjoyed a lot of pointcrow’s content over the years but this one especially is really nice. i love breakdowns of techniques on videos of complicated speedruns, but the casualness of this one is especially enjoyable. it really feels like just hanging out and listening to someone talk about something they’re excited abt, which is always nice. i’ve had this on while i’ve been drawing, and it’s helped me get some really good work done. thanks pcrow for the great stuff. :)
Aside of the absolute amazing video and feat that is beating it blindfolded, hearing pointcrow talk so passionately about it all is so so cool. i appreciate him talking and opening up about his synesthesia and how it in a way aided him with this achievement. Great video and congrats on the speedrun!
For those wondering more about synesthesia, it is a condition in which the brain crosses different senses. For some people, like Eric, they can cross different pitches, numbers, letters, feelings, or smells with colors. For example, every time Jamie hears a A# she can see the color green in her head or she sees a shade of green over her vision. This happens when two nerves cross with different sensations to colors. So some people can feel, hear, taste, or smell colors. Eric can do this with strings of digits and characters.
The synesthesia stuff is a full on mood. Far as I know, I don’t have it, but I have something adjacent to it and I know how much thinking in non-standard ways is a blessing and curse. Good on you for being able to open up about it and make it a strength. I'd share more, but I respect you don’t want to hear about adjacent stuff, don’t want to mind whammy anyone. Good run!
OMG, congrats on finishing this!! I remember tuning into some of your streams where you were still trying to master the Great Sky Island, figuring out what sound cues to listen for and exactly how many hops to take. The progress is insane!!!
Once in a while, I check up on PointCrow to see when he uploads Zelda games. I used to sneak my old tablet under my pillow to watch him around 4 Years ago. BOTW was my everything, and PointCrow really just hit the spot when it came to Zelda games. I really have been a big fan before 150K subs. Keep it going man, and I hope you have a good day.❤❤😁😁
This video was really so good to watch. The cleverness needed in many different situations, realising how trivial elements could become so problematic blindfolded, everything felt like a giant puzzle in which sound, memory, tricks and experience were all useful. Really it was a treat to follow !
Didn’t know Eric is a fellow synesthete! I love hearing others talk about their synesthesia, it really is difficult to explain adequately to those without it. This is madly impressive as a run, and great commentary!
The amount of work you put into this video is awesome eric ! The narration over every clip is so insightful. And i understand its a highlight, but you explain it as fast as you are doing it which is insane! I dont have the time to follow you live sadly but i have been waiting for that video for so long. Great video anyway ! Thanks !
Hey Pointcrow, This was such an amazing run! One suggestion I would have if you ever decide to try again is this: for the last catch, the music dynamically changes the closer you get to Zelda. Maybe you could use this to your advantage to know how close you are to catching Zelda.
Eric, this was a fantastic and extremely well put-together video. The commentary style works great for explaining a speed run (especially TOTK blindfolded lol) and reminds me more of your streams, which is a nice change of pace from the usual edited videos on the main channel. Would love to see more of these kinds of videos!!
Saw this notification a while ago, and finally got around to watching it. Always follow your passions man, more than anything else I enjoying watching people who are passionate/excited about what they're doing. Really loved this one
Your explanation of synesthesia was a lot different from how I typically heard people talk about "seeing sounds" or "tasting colors", and color-graphing is exactly how I'd always thought about numbers and letters. So I looked some stuff up and, yep...an approximated 20% of autistic people have some form of synesthesia. Thank you, PointCrow, for helping me discover yet another one of the attachments that comes with my autism :P
The commentary ontop of blindfolded game play is kinda unique and adds so much! The explainations, nerd outs and random facts are so quaint and super helpful for someone like me who has almost no clue as to whats happening, and needs to go back a few times to see how you did things. It really highlights the skill required to do this to thoes who have never tried. It's also nice to see you so passionate about this. I felt like I was taken on an epic adventure, thanks PointCrow. Best Streamtuber.

This video is already amazing in itself being a blindfolded run, but you talking about your synesthesia was even cooler. It's like you got a superpower. Thank you for sharing that about yourself, Crow!
Well done! You’ve come so far since the beginning of the game, and it feels like yesterday when I was watching your lives while exploring the depths. I hope you enjoyed this game and this specific play through, because I sure did enjoy watching it!
This was such a cool and fun video to watch, and let me start by saying, EXCELLENT JOB on beating this run blindfolded! Such an incredible feat to be able to do this blindfolded. Congrats on doing demon dragon first try as well and saving that Zelda catch at the end! I also want to thank you for sharing a little bit about yourself halfway through the run with the topic of how you memorized the run and how your mind allows you to do that. I think that is super awesome that you can do that! I hope no one ever tells you anything to make you think otherwise. That is such a gift to have a mind that works the way yours does and that allows you to be able to do something like speedrun a game as large as TOTK blindfolded. Thank you for being such a great content creator, I love watching your videos and love to watch you enjoy the things you do with such unmatched excitement. Always helps me escape from reality for a little while and just enjoy watching an amazing content creator playing an amazing game! Looking forward to the next beat feat in the gaming realm @PointCrow, stay awesome!
It’s so cool to hear how you imagine things! I appreciated the aphantasia shoutout too, honestly the idea that someone can memorize all this stuff is just as crazy to me as people literally being able to conjure the image of an apple in their mind
The part about the spatial synesthesia blew my mind, like, i realized that I can't even imagine what you mean. Your example of aphantasia vs non aphantasia was really good in making me understand how far away of a concept it is for my brain but the examples of how you conceptualize time completely broke my brain lol. You've turned something that's already cool into an actual superhuman gaming ability.
i'm glad i got to catch some of the earlier attempts of this run just so i could see what a difference it makes to see the whole thing. MAN!!! you are so impressive. i've been here for a good while, and it's truly bonkers to see how far you've come. it's nice, because you deserve it. massive kudos to you, and thank you for all the content. (p.s. your description of synesthesia made the most sense out of any description i've ever heard, probably because you used aphantasia as a base point. it's almost heartwarming to hear those two in the same breath, as someone with aphantasia, who's so curious what exactly it'd be like to see something in my head. idk. what im trying to say, i guess, is thank you for the callout?.) keep slaying, sir 🫡
I dunno if Crow reads comments, but I wanted to say 1) phenomenal run! And thank you so much for the insightful commentary! and 2) your explanation about how your Synesthesia works was so neat! I don't have it, myself, but the thing that clicked with me was actually your nervousness about learning other people's colors/patterns. I have similar fears regarding visual/spatial memory that I always thought were odd and embarrassing, but I realized today that it's almost like... being afraid of overwriting files in your brain and messing up those pathways. No idea if it's possible, but the fear still exists, and you instinctively avoid it for self-protection. If you think of it like that, it feels a bit more logical, haha!
It's really cool listening to how you describe some of these techniques (I'm at the part where you describe "echolocation" to find the fuse shrine), because, well. I have a friend, Sara Winters (giving their name because they publicly post and talk about this stuff under that name), who is legally blind, and they do talks about how they play games (specifically FFXIV) anyways. In fact, if anyone reading this is going to Otakon or Pax, you might see their panel! They do things like listen to their footsteps to know what kind of surface they're walking on, and where others' footsteps are to know where their party members are. And they use sound effects and voicelines in battle to know what to do and where to stand - there are very few mechanics they can't figure out, in fact when they did P1S (a very difficult fight) with us there was a mechanic they could call faster than any of the sighted people because they were so attuned to the differences in sound effect! They do have some vision, they aren't fully blind, so they can make some use of visuals although they still can't see most mechanical tells, but it's really cool seeing the parallels between how you do the blindfolded run, and how they adapt to playing games as a blind person. If anyone would like to see their panel from last year's LunarCon explaining how they play while blind, search up "sara winters blind prog" and it'll be the first result! It's really fascinating (spoilers for FFXIV through Endwalker, though.)
For the synesthesia - I think the idea of "I associated math with red because I had a red binder" is a good way to *start* to explain it to people who don't have it. Because then you explain that it's that on a much more fundamental level. Math IS red, it always has been red, and it always will be red. Instead of their binder making math red, their brain made math red. That's just continuing the example, I don't associate colors with concepts. Starting from a relatable experience is how I try to explain it to people who really want to understand and who I know won't reduce the way my brain works to their second year of middle school.
Hehehe this was really cool! Awesome thorough explanations of the strats, it makes it a lot more fun to watch than just the run :) The ending was crazy with using the music to time movements. I would think though you could over time memorize the movements by just using the steady beat of the music, rather than specific swells & piano entrances. It'd be harder but you wouldn't have to wait for the music to loop.
This is incredible!!! Also - I have grapheme-colour synesthesia too! And a bit of spatial. So neat to hear you have it too! It doesn't surprise me~ Your name is very green to me also haha, it's super nice~

I haven’t finished watching, I’m only at 56:06, but so far my favorite part is 0:00:00-56:06
Nah he doesn’t like that 1 second at 2:13:16
PointCrow, I really appreciated you opening up about Synesthesia and explaining it.
I'm amazed and fascinated!
your joy at the end was absolutely contagious i was punching the air and screaming and losing my mind
Gotta say your videos like this where you do a long commentation and explanation over one of your runs, are EASILY one of your best. The effort can really be seen, and the videos themselves are always just such a big ole blast to watch.
They take alot of time, but it's really impressive. Thanks for making these!
Eric so good at speedrunning he was buffed from birth
I caught bits and pieces of the streams for this and it was insanity, love to see it's finally completed can't wait to watch this
Wow super good work on this run yay!!!!
Also very proud of you for opening up about your synesthesia. We get people saying dumb stuff like "ohh you just associate the two" without actually understanding how your brain works, so me and my headmates hope you don't get any rude comments like that:)
love your blindfolded vids and the explanations, literally cheered outloud when saw this vid cant wait to watch, please make more :)
"I've come to defeat you, ganondorf!"
"First off, you're facing the wrong direction, second why are you wearing a blindfold?"
"Shut up"
About synesthesia : a friend of mine decided to memorise pi.
@xinpingdonohoe3978 Missed OP's point gg. It's not about how the friend memorized the most ever decimals of pi, it's about the synesthesia
Very neat story tho, OP. Such an interesting way to memorize something
I have 63 digits of pi memorized, I just memorized the numbers, no real strategy.
You know its a good day when pointcrow remembers he has a youtube channel
Frrr lol
ok finished. he beat the game blindfolded faster than i can do it normally LOL
This is crazy! Keep up the good work!
It was just insane to see the progression of how much better he got at this through the different livestreams
Aside of the absolute amazing video and feat that is beating it blindfolded, hearing pointcrow talk so passionately about it all is so so cool. i appreciate him talking and opening up about his synesthesia and how it in a way aided him with this achievement. Great video and congrats on the speedrun!
For those wondering more about synesthesia,
it is a condition in which the brain crosses different senses.
The day you completed this was my final’s day. I cheered so loud when you completed it my sister thought I finished my finals…
Amazing run! Must have taken forever to practice! It was super cool to hear about your synesthesia too, I love hearing about how other people think!
This is SUPER interesting. Speedrunner strats never cease to fascinate me.
It is a shame he could not see purah
😔
Top ten saddest Zelda moments.
So true lol
😢
😢😢😢
Didn’t know Eric is a fellow synesthete! I love hearing others talk about their synesthesia, it really is difficult to explain adequately to those without it. This is madly impressive as a run, and great commentary!
what the fuck pointcrow
Favorite comment 💀
The amount of work you put into this video is awesome eric ! The narration over every clip is so insightful. And i understand its a highlight, but you explain it as fast as you are doing it which is insane! I dont have the time to follow you live sadly but i have been waiting for that video for so long. Great video anyway ! Thanks !
This is probably the most PointCrow type of thing I have ever seen😂
I mean, he didn’t.
Hey Pointcrow,
This was such an amazing run! One suggestion I would have if you ever decide to try again is this: for the last catch, the music dynamically changes the closer you get to Zelda. Maybe you could use this to your advantage to know how close you are to catching Zelda.
0:59 wrong, you can also smell the game
And touch, hear, taste…
@@ologoto3584especially the last one if it’s a cartridge
Eric, this was a fantastic and extremely well put-together video. The commentary style works great for explaining a speed run (especially TOTK blindfolded lol) and reminds me more of your streams, which is a nice change of pace from the usual edited videos on the main channel. Would love to see more of these kinds of videos!!
The pointcrow magnum opus
Really?,i was literally thinking about how his explanation made since and was like"that's probably because of my autism"
actually incredible.
i enjoyed watching the entire run. and your explanations to everything were so good and interesting.
oh man im still hyped!!!!
1:11:49 of course that's not how it works, math is obviously the blue binder
Amazing video, man! I can tell the passion you put into it. Thanks for sharing your talents with us :)
FINALLY MORE POINTCROW TOTK CONTENT!!
OMFG THIS IS CRAZY (I didn't watch it fully yet but I know it's gonna be great)
now do BOTW fully finally, we only have Great Platue till now
This is awesome! I’ve been curious about this run, so having you explain it with the visual reference is great!
For the guy that said womp womp at 1:14:05 when Eric was talking about his fear and condition, I will come for you. Also why do you gotta be like that guy who said womp womp.
What is womp womp, and why?
He said that in the live stream chat. The fear and condition explanation was in voice-over. He was referring to the trick fale.
Now beat Elden Ring DLC Blindfolded
Would be hype tbh
I hope you're being sarcastic.
@@OChunks no
@@zacharymccann6632 unfortunate.
This video is already amazing in itself being a blindfolded run, but you talking about your synesthesia was even cooler. It's like you got a superpower. Thank you for sharing that about yourself, Crow!
Now do it Pantsless 🔥
Well done! You’ve come so far since the beginning of the game, and it feels like yesterday when I was watching your lives while exploring the depths. I hope you enjoyed this game and this specific play through, because I sure did enjoy watching it!
Great job Pointcrow! MAN YOUR A LEGEND
Nobody can beat this guys content and dedication! Keep it up!
It’s so cool to hear how you imagine things! I appreciated the aphantasia shoutout too, honestly the idea that someone can memorize all this stuff is just as crazy to me as people literally being able to conjure the image of an apple in their mind
I just realized that all the commentors have not finished the video.
I watched at 8x speed.
@@ReidGilligan-go1wrbeast
The part about the spatial synesthesia blew my mind, like, i realized that I can't even imagine what you mean.
Your example of aphantasia vs non aphantasia was really good in making me understand how far away of a concept it is for my brain but the examples of how you conceptualize time completely broke my brain lol.
You've turned something that's already cool into an actual superhuman gaming ability.
Saw this on stream the other day, actually feels unreal it got uploaded
That dap at the end is so satisfying to hear. Wonderful work Eric!
This dude became blind for us
True dedication
He gon me in a MrBeast vid soon
i'm glad i got to catch some of the earlier attempts of this run just so i could see what a difference it makes to see the whole thing. MAN!!! you are so impressive. i've been here for a good while, and it's truly bonkers to see how far you've come. it's nice, because you deserve it. massive kudos to you, and thank you for all the content.
(p.s. your description of synesthesia made the most sense out of any description i've ever heard, probably because you used aphantasia as a base point. it's almost heartwarming to hear those two in the same breath, as someone with aphantasia, who's so curious what exactly it'd be like to see something in my head. idk. what im trying to say, i guess, is thank you for the callout?.)
keep slaying, sir 🫡
Damn, two hours, gotta break out the popcorn for this one
lol yeah
Ok but now do it with only your feet
This is amazing crow! So many streams to practice, but you finally did it, and it was all worth it in the end. Congrats!
Hi also fun fact if you dont read this comment you didn't read it.
I love this long format videos of you explaning everything in detail, so interesting and fun!
Absolutely loving the commentary, Crow! You did an excellelent job of being both informative and entertaining.
