    4C lady here. I wash weekly and have for 15 years. My scalp and hair LOVES it! Not only that but washing often keeps my hair from getting too tangled so wash days have become easier. I actually love it wash day.

    Do what works for you. When I was my worst for eczema, my dermatologists told me to never wash my hair more than once a week and even less than that. He was an old white guy and he actually helped me to take my scalp health back. Remember to check out who is funding theses studies. Also remember that nutrition is the key to fighting inflammation of any type. Check the quality of your water. Again - take new studies with a grain of salt until you have definitive proof from sources with no dog in the fight. I am a chemist and worked in a lab at one point before changing careers.

    Hey girl! That hair is growing beautifully! 🌺 First let me say, everyone should do what works for them. I have 4c, high porosity hair with fine strands. I used to wash my hair weekly and my scalp would be sore and sometimes dry. I NOW wash my hair every two to three months. I keep it fresh with a tea tree/MSM/rosemary spritz. I also put pumpkinseed/rosemary oil on my scalp whenever I feel like it. I have ZERO scalp issues and my hair is thriving! My scalp feels better than it did when I washed it weekly. So there are ways to care for scalp and hair without washing frequently. But again, that’s what works for me. Everyone can’t do that. Anyway, happy growing! I’ll be reaching my hair length goals by the end of the year if the Lord allows! Fenugreek water daily is huge, thank you so much for sharing it with us! 🌸

    • @Leah_Tewari
      @Leah_Tewari 8 месяцев назад +16

      I agree with this. I’m type 3 and 4 but I have to question some of these “scientists” and “studies”. Historically women never ever washed as frequently as we do today and they grew their hair to extreme lengths. My grandmother washed once a month. Besides the fact that inflammation comes from so many factors and the immediate is diet.

    • @KM-np1rf
      @KM-np1rf 8 месяцев назад +20

      Absolutely not. If you want to wash your hair a few times a year just say that but please stop framing it as “doing what works for you” and “everyone’s hair is different.” Yes there are variations in scalp type but no scalp benefits from washing so infrequently- a scalp is a scalp no matter the hair type. It’s a reason black women are the number one sufferers of alopecia and women with long “healthy” hair often develop hair loss and scalp issues later in life from chronic inflammation caused by infrequent hair washing. This is a known thing in the dermatology world before this study-it doesn’t matter who funded this particular one there have been many before it and there will be many studies after confirming it. You all will guard your poor hygiene and hair practices to unreasonable lengths even when faced with the blatant truth.

      @@KM-np1rf thank you for speaking so boldly, stronger than I would have, lol but you speak NO LIES. its great to "do what's best for you" but all we see online are women we wash every 2 weeks or more, rarely weekly. I hate that this is normalized across the internet, but so many women should NOT be doing this (following YT University) and may be loosing their hair for it. I would LOVE to see more women come out and display results of healthy type 4 hair with a more frequent wash routine. Facts: for years when I had dreads I tried keeping up with the every 2 weeks wash schedule bc I thought that was what I was supposed to do. Oiling was a temporary fix. I had bad inflammation and itch, and what I thought was dry scalp was really build-up. Alopecia arrived from this, stress and health issues, which I got back on track but my scalp was terrible. I cut off my dreads and started washing my hair every day with mild, moisturizing shampoo, the itching stopped. Ayurveda masks helped with inflammation. I never seen my scalp look so smooth and normal. My hair is growing back in thick, 5 inches long, I wash every 2 days at the latest. and because I wash ahead of the dryness, my hair is always soft and my curls are looser. I keep my hair typically in an afro now for convenience, no protective styles. Anthony Dickey was the first I saw to say, yes, you can wash every day, if you want to, its not that serious. I love him for that.

    I don't think the issue is water on the scalp. I believe that the issue is the scalp being covered by buildup that needs to be washed of. I don't believe that putting water on the scalp alone like you're doing here would help with that. Only cleansing the scalp would. I would assume tight hairstyles cause more inflammation than infrequent washing though. I do not have an oily scalp naturally and I wash my scalp once a week (sometimes more) and unfortunately under a microscope my scalp still shows redness (which I've gotten done multiple times at the trichologist office). I don't wear braids or anything tight either. So I probably just naturally have a sensitive scalp. I also don't grease or oil my scalp since that was never something I was taught to do.
