- In this video, I test out new golf grips for my fitting studio. Will these Star Grips check all the boxes including ease of install with compressed air, great feel, color and style options, and good value?

I bought the pure grips during their fire sale. I heard about Star Grips and they will be my next grip. I LOVE the 3 year warranty. Thanks for the video and your analysis:)
.580 undersize, .600 standard and mid size and they put the size inside the bottom of the grip. You are correct for some reason no outside markings for midsize. Again thanks for the great content!
U can put all grips on with air. However never install grips with just air, esp if you have a high swing speed.. Trust me. Just install with tape and solvent. The union between the grip and shaft when using solvent and DS tape is superior to just air and single sided tape. If you have a slow swing speed maybe, but Ive tried them both ways and DS tape and solvent is superior.
I love using air, but sometimes my grips will twist ever so slightly. And I use the lines on the top to set my grip. I’ve unfortunately gone back to tape. 😢
The sidewinders in midsize have an MD within the ring that is right below the butt cap
I was in the same boat as you when Pure went out of business. I think I found an alternative though. The “Sonar+ Wrap Calibrate” came on a used club I bought and really liked how well it performed in the wet. Carefully removed, removed old tape, cut down shaft to desired length and reinstalled like I would have with Pure grips. Went to the range to test and forgot about the fact it was installed with just air. I have not found any twisting (need to test a GP or similar with air to see what that would feel like) and the calibrate line is still straight.
Now I installed them on all my clubs the same way and no issues after a few rounds and range sessions. Even with driver at an honest ~100-103 on the Mevo+.
I’m positively surprised, but good to have a new alternative with Star.
Star was around before Pure. A couple guys left Star with what they thought was the formula bitbit wasn't 100%. They started Pure 10 miles away in Mesa, AZ. Karma bit them In the @$$. IMO Star is a better grip. Absolutely no rubber smell which is great. Tjey last forever!
One interesting thing I noticed when ordering these for the first time was that the black midsize sidewinder grip is 9 grams lighter than the white. 6 grams lighter in standard. Just something to think about when ordering or building a set.
You can use that to your advantage and dial in swing weight
I put my golf pride cp2 grips on but they kept twisting, went back to tape and solvent
I put the cp2's on a friend's set and discovered the same thing. Seemed like they would be perfect for air install but they must have a slightly different diameter than tour velvets and the stars.
What air pressure do you use? PSI?
55-60psi
I prefer Karma and Lampkin. Haven't tried Star grips.
I have tried the karma grips and they are a great value but don't last as long as golf prides or Stars. I have had Stars on my clubs for a year and honestly they still feel new.
They even have an installation gun for the compressor, if you fancy that.
I personally go with Karma grips. They are pretty much Golf Pride ripoffs, but feel the same to me and are cheaper.
I have star grips on my clubs. Prefer them to the pure grips and the fact they have no labeling on them makes them super easy to install as you don’t need to align anything.
I do like the perms wrap style and for the most part agree with you on Pure vs Star grips. The only real difference I had was the Star grips were just a tad bit harder to install with compressed air over the Pure grips. Will have to try the Sidewinder style. Sometimes you can find them cheaper that you stated in the video. Great video and thanks!
Loved the Pure DTX. Best grip I ever used. Too bad they went out of business.
looking very good hope they also make a less taper grip.
been replacing my worn grips for years:
still have to remove old grips, tape & glue but applying one sided masking tape & using a compressor to mount new grips makes "very short work plus compressed air makes grip alignment super fast & easy.
What Kind of tape you're using?
I really like them have them on all my clubs
Thanks I Really Enjoyed 👍
How do you keep them from twisting? Even on my wedges, air grips twist…
Little hairspray will hold them. Also had people say they use just a 2 inch piece of double sided tape at the very end of the shaft to prevent that issue.
@@EFGMC nice thanks! i will try it :)
Hi - what air injection needle do you use? I have the gun but need to always use my larger compressor and sometimes not the easiest with putter grips
It's the raft inflator tip that I use. I've sanded it down just a bit for slightly easier fit.
@@EFGMC thanks - great idea
I wish all grips installed with this little mess lol
