As a fellow middle-aged Oklahoma woman- THANK YOU. I wish I had friends like like y’all. I live in a small town outside OKC and it’s very isolating. My husband and I are liberal, but living in Harrah, driving a 3/4 ton truck (for our RV), middle aged white folks we are always assumed, by total strangers, that we are conservative and people say the wildest things to us. We have no problem making people feel stupid when they do this. Still… thank god we have each other because this state is insane.
I am a 71 year old white progressive living in N.D. Red State deluxe. I relate to your post. Everybody assumes I am a MAGA fan boy. I wore a Bernie t-shirt to a local restaurant. That was fun. I have a friend my age who is a democrat. He always tells me to not express my beliefs so loud when we go out to breakfast. I told him I could give a shit less what people think. I have to listen to their bullshit all around me. The reactions are priceless. Heads turn and people start talking about me........in whispers.
I’m in Florida, red area of course, but I wear my HRC T-shirt (rainbow heart with United Against Hatred) out and about. 😏 Thus far I haven’t had anyone say anything bad but I have had several “like your shirt” comments. 👍 It may be a way to flush out the other liberals in your area and meet people you actually want to meet! 😊

I went home to the midwest to visit family where I grew up the Christmas before Trump was elected. He had been campaigning like mad all year, and we were about to go into that last year of 2016. It was shocking to me-even that early-trump was still just a candidate-I saw one entire side of my family suddenly turn into bitter, immigrant despising, grievance laden, mean, judgmental, low impact members of not quite the klan-but certainly somewhere white supremacist adjacent-the world of bigots. and I can honestly say I had never seen this element in these people. I never necessarily admired these people, but I didn't think of them as adversaries or people for which I needed to be wary. at a Christmas Eve dinner, I watched us all pray for the birth of Jesus, for health, for safety, for the fact that we were all together-everyone said-amen-and then suddenly we were at a John Birch society turkey dinner. it was shocking. I didn't know who these people were. I'd never heard them talk like this. I'd never heard them so angry about so many things. these people who really have everything they need, and in no way are being taken down by American culture. again, I sat there agog. I got through dinner, but soon after I let everyone know that I had heard enough Christmas cheer and love from these people, and I didn't need to be around that kind of misguided anger, as I found it baffling, foolish, and unnecessary, so I left. and I have never been back. what Mary is saying here is profoundly, and devastatingly true. it is terrible to watch people become their worst selves. but what can you do? I know what I can do, and that is not be around them anymore. I look forward to Tuesdays to listen to my favorite podcast. But this episode has to be my favorite so far! I am an AMERICAN woman of Hispanic descent. I work as a police dispatcher in Arizona. Trump woke the many racists in uniform as well as dispatchers I work with daily. I have never felt uncomfortable working in a predominately male, caucasian work force until 2016! The amount of off-colored remarks I have heard since, is very sad. I will always back our first responders, but the whole "back the blue" is just another MAGA slogan-IMO! Arizona is sadly, Florida and Texas' baby sibling.

I’m the same age as DJT, and lived during those days of limited television … a handful of channels, rabbit ears, shows you loved but had to wait a whole week for. For the TV junkie it was hell. You ended up watching things you’d never otherwise choose to. (it’s how I got semi-interested in golf!) I can’t help but think young Donald was an addict of all sorts of things, food, sex, power, attention…but especially of money and television. And where better were those combined than in the world of televangelism. I can imagine him clapping his hands in delight at the idea of sitting in gaudy gilt surroundings next to a voluptuous, cosmetically enhance woman and getting a few million viewers to each send you $10 (+postage) in exchange for “holy” water in a one-cent baggie. Where, in fact, is the difference between their ministry and his presidency? This was written by one, John MacArthur (just a regular preacher): “The faith healers and health-and-wealth preachers who dominate religious television are shameless frauds…There is nothing spiritual or miraculous about their on-stage chicanery. I have a note about the football players and their water bottles: I think it’s a sanitary thing, so they don’t have to have so many bottles on hand, as well as an anti-doping precaution. I guess I was lucky. Like my mother, I went through menopause without any hot sweats or mood swings, etc. My periods just stopped at age 50, the same age as my mother. The one thing that bothered me was some short term memory issues but that has resolved itself, and they told me would happen over time. Thanks to you both for such a good podcast with such relevant topics.

I look forward to Tuesdays to listen to my favorite podcast. But this episode has to be my favorite so far! I am an AMERICAN woman of Hispanic descent. I work as a police dispatcher in Arizona. Trump woke the many racists in uniform as well as dispatchers I work with daily. I have never felt uncomfortable working in a predominately male, caucasian work force until 2016! The amount of off-colored remarks I have heard since, is very sad. I will always back our first responders, but the whole "back the blue" is just another MAGA slogan-IMO! Arizona is sadly, Florida and Texas' baby sibling.
I'm so sorry you have had this experience since Trump. My aunt and uncle were a detective and sheriff, respectively. I have great respect for those who "Protect and Serve". Please keep your chin up, we need people like you!. 💗

I’m the same age as DJT, and lived during those days of limited television … a handful of channels, rabbit ears, shows you loved but had to wait a whole week for. For the TV junkie it was hell. You ended up watching things you’d never otherwise choose to. (it’s how I got semi-interested in golf!)
I can’t help but think young Donald was an addict of all sorts of things, food, sex, power, attention…but especially of money and television. And where better were those combined than in the world of televangelism. I can imagine him clapping his hands in delight at the idea of sitting in gaudy gilt surroundings next to a voluptuous, cosmetically enhance woman and getting a few million viewers to each send you $10 (+postage) in exchange for “holy” water in a one-cent baggie. Where, in fact, is the difference between their ministry and his presidency?

Again love these ladies being our voice! Saying what I want to say. I am in a southern Red State and super hard to speak up because I don’t want anything to happen to my home or my family. And holidays having to spend with very conservative family is not fun. I have tried sending information I find on Trump. They say I need to look past the person and they can never vote liberal. They say I’m the only Lib they know. I’m so woke. I know they must have a text thread all about me going. I can see within maybe 10 yrs….im not sure I’ll be invited or welcome . It sucks. I am not outspoken either.

I have a note about the football players and their water bottles: I think it’s a sanitary thing, so they don’t have to have so many bottles on hand, as well as an anti-doping precaution. They squirt the water so no one touches the bottle but the person squirting it, so it can’t be tampered with or get all germy. Hope that helps, Pumps! ❤

It is a sanitary issue , remember there could be one to eleven times that nozzle on the bottle could have been touched by a mouth .
Also, they are making sure players stay hydrated who are in the midst of playing.
Let me explain WHY they do that… 1. They have seconds to get back to the field 2. Sanitary reasons 3. They are capable IF they are sitting out on the bench between plays. Enough said and I still love you both.

I too am old, hate DJT, and I've had it as well. I live in the only place worse than Oklahoma and Florida and that's Texas. This is the first time to see your show and I am signing up!
I guess I was lucky. Like my mother, I went through menopause without any hot sweats or mood swings, etc. My periods just stopped at age 50, the same age as my mother. The one thing that bothered me was some short term memory issues but that has resolved itself, and they told me would happen over time. Thanks to you both for such a good podcast with such relevant topics.
