Best Pop Duo/Group Performance is the perfect example, because it was literally filled with collaborations…I don’t know when collaborations turned into duos, but that category is just a failure! Jay-Z might have been a bit embarrassing, but he definitely spoke the truth.

This reminds me of the idea of ‘inclusion’ that I see all over, especially in Disney. Young and Beautiful by Lana Del Ray, who makes similar type of music and the song had a similar vibe made for a film was put into one of the 2 categories Billie won this year a decade ago and she didn’t win, despite the production of her song was way better and it had more than a overly sappy piano instrumental. I think Billie has talent, but 2 awards for that song when many other great songs came out that could have been song of the year or there were other songs that were used in media (some the same film as Billie) that was better is just ridiculous. Let alone that, the Best Pop Group/Duo category was full of collaborations, which isn’t a duo, the artist aren’t partners, but collaborators, shows just how biased and honestly unreliable their opinions are of music excellence really is. And let alone that…Billie has 2 albums and has gotten 9 Grammy’s in 4 years while artists who have been in the industry since she was a kid, I’m going with Miley who just now won her first 2 this year over 17 years of being in the industry, it’s messed up seeing lesser than songs getting awards that I personally think don’t deserve it. And I think Dua Lipa’s song was pretty good, even for a basic pop record. But again, it’s my opinion, nobody had to agree with me.

And I definitely agree that Lana (and many other great artists) are snubbed for awards they deserve over others who’s work isn’t on pair. I think for the most part it’s money being thrown at the people who judge the Grammies (which isn’t much different than the Radio, because the radio is basically artist’s companies paying to blast their artists songs on the radio). Integrity in the music industry is definitely dissipating day by day (even though I like trash music, no lie, but I wouldn’t want it to be unfairly rewarded).

My point is that if artists truly wanted to bring about change in these institutions, they could, but they choose not to.
