But mainly bc it was white kids that bought all the records. No rap album would have ever gone gold or platinum and rap would have stayed obscure and faded away. Most rap fans in the 80’s were white.

We've gone backwards since I was in high-school in the 90s. I grew up watching Jordan in 85 at 6 years old. We tried emulating him in elementary school long before he was a champion. I started playing golf at 19 years old because of Tiger Woods. In school we never looked at color , we just saw each other as equal friends.

He has that rare, intuitive right-brained gift of prosody (basically means verse flow/syllabic and rhyming sense). Some of the greatest lyricists and melodists of all-time were left-handed like Paul McCartney, Mozart, David Bowie, Beethoven, and Eminem

And for those of you who say “that’s impossible, the Vikings couldn’t even write!” I’d like to draw your attention to the Viking runestones still found in Scandinavia, using Icelandic script or elder futhark runes.

"Flyting" is an old English term, it is called "senna" (among other things) in old Norse. It is known as "immarbág" in classical Gealic and "iomarbháigh" in Irish. It is known as "haikai" in Japan and "naqā’iḍ" in Arabic. It is called "kilpalaulanta" in Finnish and "munhuggning" ("mouth chopping") in Swedish. In South-America you have "Payada" in Portugal you have "Cantares ao desafío" and in Calacia "Regueifa". Ofc there is also African "Ikocha Nkocha" and "sanankuya" which evolved to the African- American "the Dozen" who then much much later evolved into "battlerap".
This types of "poetic insult exchange/competition/duels" is found among the Achaean in the Illiad as well a among the Inuit. Since at least the middle ages there have been organised and improvised oratory jousts by trobadures all ove the mediterrenian. I bet I have missed many local variants of the same theme. It is almost like competing in insults is something that is universialy human...
Btw: Runestones in Scandinavia is written almost(!) exceptionally in the younger Fuþark. But when it comes to insults in old Norse culture then the Icelandic Eddas and sagas as well as the old Scandinavian laws, graffiti and notes/messages the best sources, not the runestones themselves.
