I never thought at my age, that I would need tips and instruction for fussy cutting but then you come along and I find out that all of this video was well needed. Thank you again so much.
I am left handed and cutting is very hard for me whether I use left-handed or right-handed scissors. I really appreciate all of your tips. Having you show exactly how to cut was very helpful.
So glad it was helpful! Two of my kiddos are lefties and it’s a challenge! A good pair of scissors that are comfortable for you is definitely worth it!
Nice to find a fellow fussy cutter. I, too, am a detail crafter. Fussy cuttings soothes my paper cutting soul. I cut while I watched/listened to you. Happy crafting.
I don't fussy cut because I suck at it, but your helpful tips have encouraged me to give it another try. It never occurred to me to hold the scissors on a slant!✂️👍🏻
I just ran into your video today, and it is quite useful and informative! One other tip I learned a few years ago, which you may have mentioned, but I didn’t see it, “put both elbows on the table as you fussy cut” … that definitely helps me have a steadier hand.
Laura when I first started fussy cutting for decoupage this was 20 plus years ago, in South Africa before fancy scissors....we used to use a little curved cuticle scissors for the fussy bits.... thanks for your clear and precise videos , i always enjoy them...
Lots of awesome tips! Loved seeing the cutting close up! We get our scissors and knives sharpened. My fabric scissors I have had them sharpened. It is more cost effective.
Thank you very much, Colleen! I'm so glad it was helpful! I know you can sharpen scissors, but mine tend to get nicked from me using them for things other than paper (bad I know!). My the end of the year, they are usually pretty beaten up and sometimes I've even managed to mess up the alignment!
I especially loved the tips on cutting tags and banners. I always struggle with tags, and I’m trying that tip. Now I know not to cut to the edge of the scissors. Thanks so much for another great video!
I almost passed up this video, even though I know that you are the fussy cutting Queen! I learned so much! I have been fussy cutting more, and have been frustrated more than once. You answered so many questions, and I will be more confident now. I didn't know about the Tim Holtz scissors. I don't like the serrated edge when fussy cutting. Now I know how to hold them to prevent that! Thank you so much for this video!
Thank you so much for all these tips! I often look at 12 x 12 cardstock and want to cut out designs from patterned paper, but I never knew how to do it. Now that I do, I really appreciate your help! Happy Crafting from Phoenix, Arizona. ❤️🤗
I’ve been fussy cutting for years but picked up some good tips here especially slanting the scissors! Also the tips for cutting the leaves and stems - I’ve always tried to cut those too close and they go very delicate and usually fall apart! Thanks for another great video.
These are good tips. I almost passed by this video also but decided to watch. I have never been good at fussy cutting. You explain things so well. Thanks.
thank you, just loved this video. I have stayed away from fussy cutting because I thought is was soooo difficult, but you have shown me a new way, thank you.
Ms Alberts thank you for sharing this knowledge and techniques. I just started crafting. Cutting is my weakness as I am left-handed.I find it difficult but your video helped me understand what fussy cutting is and thank you for pointing out that it doesn't have to be perfect. Thank you so much. New follower here ❤️. Stay well
Welcome! My daughter is a crafter as well and a lefty. She finds it easier with her hand on it's side as well, so give it a go and see if that helps! It seems to put less stress on my arm. Glad it was helpful!
This is the first of your videos that I watched. I will be watching more. Thank you so much for teaching such creative ways of making the most of my paper. I loved it
Wow, wow, wow! You have taught me so much in this great video!! Fussy cutting really is in the details. I’m making notes to help me remember your tips. Thank you!
I hope this was helpful! I've had a lot of requests for tips and tricks to make fussy cutting easier. Ultimately, it does take some practice, but also I find it incredibly relaxing when you don't pressure yourself to be perfect.
Wow, you have made my day!! Fussy cutting is not my idea of fun, but I believe I moved my shears instead of the paper and I did not hold then at an angle. I am going to try fussy cutting now since I have your instructions and let you know!!!
Subscribed, I do a lot of fussy cutting. I’m a card maker and scrapbooker. However, even with so much “practice “ I’m not good at it 🙄. After watching your video I can see why. Thank you SO much for sharing your skill, tips, and tricks!! I’m definitely going to use them all 😊 Thank you again ❤
So glad to have you! I have learned a lot about cutting from teaching my kids. Two are lefties and it required me to pay close attention to how I cut in order to show them on the opposite hand. Everything takes practice, but it helps when you have a guide helping yoi too!
Great tips....one question? If I sent you all the things I'd like fussy cut, how soon could you have it done?...Hahahaha! Seriously, this was wonderful & I learned a couple of new tips that will help! Thanks for sharing! 💕
Thanks for this. I get so frustrated with ephemera packs with the large white borders and not having enough of the images I really like, but I have dreaded the thought of fussy cutting. Your tips make it feel more manageable and something I am willing to try. I am about to retire so saving money and still having embellishments I like will be a good thing.
I hear you! Those thick white borders on ephemera make me crazy too! I try very hard to keep my pages economical and fussy cutting really helps me do that.
It definitely helps to see more clearly where you are cutting, especially in tight spots! I enjoy it and I think more people would if they could find easier ways to do it!
You are doing a very nice job of cutting them out. I just wanted to let you know that my sister and I have used the nail scissors. They are very small and curved, but they work well on cutting small things, and small curves. Sometimes you take them off your fingers and turn them they other way for curves going the other way.
Oh my! I am so happy I stayed up late and watched this video! Thanks for all the tips, as a visual learner, this was just what I needed. I am not sure I have the patience for the small detailed cutting, however, I can really use the info on larger projects. I so appreciate watching you work.
no wonder I dislike fussy cutting. I have been doing it wrong this whole time!! your tips are fantastic. You are the queen of fussy cutting!! And to think, I almost didn't watch this video. You rock girl!

Thank you, Mary! I'm so glad it was helpful! Fussy cutting really changed my style of scrapping and I think it's a huge part of what renewed my love in it too!
I've done fussy cutting a bit in the past. This video is a game changer and I know I will be doing much more fussy cutting going forward. The tip that changed it the most for me...Tip the scissors blades to better see where I'm cutting. I was doing some cutting last night and that single change made it SO much easier and allowed me to feel much more in control.
This is awesome!! Thank you so much for posting a super explanatory video that no one else has! I was clueless as how to attempt fussy cutting. Everyone talks about it but no one has ever explained how to do it. I'm fairly new to scrapping and I feel like sometimes the assumed knowledge is hard to overcome. You have my sincere thanks! 😊
I'm so glad it was helpful, Rebekah! It was requested by a few friends on here and I was happy to oblige! I fussy cut quite often and have picked up a few tricks along the way that I thought would be useful for others. You're so right, often scrappers who have been at this hobby for quite a while forget that not everyone understands their lingo and techniques!
Awesome video Laura, I have not been a fussy cutter, but as I look for embellishments, I am learning to cut and punch. I was strolling the the few isle of HL, and found some beautiful PP on the sale rack, I thought oh I would never us that, then I thought fussy cut, it is making beautiful flower, also got a small round punch and a piece of nice card star with stars, and now I will have stars... endless ideas!!!
Laura I've watched quite a few videos on fussy cutting. This one is absolutely the most useful one I've ever seen. First time I have ever finished a video on this topic & I feel like I can do a decent job with it.
I'm so glad it was helpful, Jamie! I've been fussy cutting as long as I've been scrapbooking and love it! I find the techniques I use make it so much easier to get clean cut pieces and avoid hand fatigue.
Hi Laura OMG This was so interesting. I really enjoyed your share about fussy cutting paper & Ephemera....it was awesome!! I don't really love to fussy cut so I do have a Brother Scan N Cut2 and use that to fussy cut papers with lots of embellishing on them or if I stamp an image and don't have a die but I'll do lots and just have the BSNC do a Big Fussy Cutting job!! Thank you very much, Joan! The Scan n Cut is definitely a great option if you are not a fussy cutter, but I love it! It's awesome you found something that works for you!
I'm so glad it was helpful, Ellen! I do a LOT of fussy cutting and I do find that these techniques help me to get a cleaner cut and don't wear out my hands as quickly!
Yes I was fuzzy cutting while watching the video. The tag thing , wonderful , water color floras and last but not least those crazy stems. Now I practice ! Thanks so much Laura this helped me alot .
Thank you so much for all the tips. I found them to be very helpful. I enjoy fussy cutting, it's relaxing to me. Your tips will make it more so. Have a blessed evening and stay safe. 😊❤
Golly you have so many great tips for fussy cutting. I remember when first hearing the words fussy cutting thinking what the heck. It is exactly that lol! Love saving $ for embellishments and some of the papers are awesome. Thanks for another fantastic video. We def need to get you a crown 👑 for the fussy cutting queen 👸 !!
Thanks for sharing. I too like fussy cutting and I always like sitting on the couch watching TV and cutting. I always go through my new papers and get them ready so I'm ready to see how you get yourself prepared. I couldn't do the get tiny ones you do though causes too much pain in my hands
You're welcome! The tiny ones are definitely tricky, but it's much cheaper for me than buying tons of enamel dots. Love tiny embellishments! It's so relaxing to veg in front of the tv and fussy cut, love it!
I need to pay visual attention when I fussy cut - so I put on pod casts or music (same as I do when I machine sew or papercraft. I handsew, knit, crochet or fold & tear paper onto my mini pages for little books 🤗 while watching TV. Very soothing 🤗
Great video!! Thank you for sharing all of the tidbit information. Now they say however that "Patience is key" hahaha thinking I was the only one who cut off the tiny bits vs tidbits. Something else has to relax you to put you in such a state of relaxation. Curious to know how and what everyone listens to whilst meditating on paper cutting/trimming/fussy cutting or do you start to get impatient. At what point does anyone start to get impatient?
Glad it was helpful, Magdalena! Patience is definitely the key with fussy cutting! I like to put on RUclips videos and watch tv when I fussy cut, just to listen to more than anything else. I also have ADHD, so I like having my hands busy while doing something else.
Thank you so much for showing this it is so helpful. Ive never tryed to fussy cut anything before but i think im going to try it now thank you so very much you're amazing
@@lauraalbertscrafts I’m really looking forward to the prep video. I’m hoping it will help me get through the dread of breaking into a new collection. I have so many just sitting there!
Thank you for the helpful tips! A question I have is regarding cutting/using magazine pictures…. I don’t know if you have any experience or recommendations for this, but I wonder if it is best to adhere it to some paper or card stock first, to provide some stability, and then cut it? I want to use magazine and seed catalogue images. I find it very hard to glue them to things though, because they ripple so easily, and I wonder if you have any ideas? Thank you!
i'm not sure if you know but you can sharpen scissors. i learned from my grandma who used to have the old school scissors, but even these now a days can be taken care of
Laura, thank you so much for this very helpful video. I used to fussy cut quiet a bit before I had a stroke. However I lost the use of my left arm and hand and my left leg. After some time I learned to walk pretty well but haven’t been able to use my left hand. With time I have learned to make cards with one hand but I’m ready to get back to scrapbooking. My husband helped me with many things I was unable to do, but he passed away and I am wanting to scrap and document our life together. Any tips for fussy cutting with one hand? Thank you so much for all your Videos!
Hi Betty! Sending you a big hug, that's a lot to overcome. Glad to hear you're making progress! Fussy cutting one handed might be easier if you have something like a clip that can hold the piece of paper for you. I tried this out with a large chip clip and it was a little awkward, but worked. I hope that helps!
I never thought at my age, that I would need tips and instruction for fussy cutting but then you come along and I find out that all of this video was well needed. Thank you again so much.
I'm so glad it was helpful, Shirley! It never ceases to amaze me, that after 20 years of scrapbooking, I still have plenty to learn too!

Thank you very much, Linda! I will definitely wear that crown proudly! Lol! I agree, anything I can do to save money on my hobby is a huge plus!
So glad you published this video. So informative. Thanks.

@@lauraalbertscrafts now, if I can only remember to take my thumb ring off... 🤭
Thank you. That tutorial was VERY helpful to me 😊
Thanks for sharing.
Thanks so much great video. You go girl🤟
So many things I didn't know. Would you have any lefty tips!
Thanks
So glad it was helpful, Lois! Two of my girls are lefties and my oldest says that she finds the blades face up tip super helpful, so give that a try!
Your a wonderful teacher, thank you for sharing 👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻😻🏵
Thank you, Michelle! I'm always happy to help!
Thanks for sharing. Learning all the time.
Glad it was helpful!
I have a hard time with fussy cutting. This video was excellent.
So glad it was helpful! I really enjoy it when I need to keep my hands busy, but just don't have the energy to scrap.
Some great tips, especially the one for making the tag! Thank you!
So glad it was helpful, Eve! Fussy cutting really takes your creating to the next level!
I loved this video!!! I too LOVE to fussy cut! And I use the same 2 pair of scissors you use!!!!
Thank you, Marcie! I’ve tried a lot of scissors and these two are the most comfortable and consistent for me.
Is that collection days of splendor you were fussy cutting???
You are great at fussy cuts

Is it cheaper to buy new versus having them sharpened?

I'm so glad it was helpful! I adore fussy cutting and find it quite relaxing to do in front of the tv with my kids, definitely give it a go!

Thank you, Leah! The prep video will be up next Saturday! This was fun to do!
Thank you!
Glad it was helpful! Yes, I would add magazine images to cardstock for stability. They can be so difficult to work with otherwise.
Great class . Thank you
I'm happy to help!
Excellent video!
Thank you very much!
i'm not sure if you know but you can sharpen scissors. i learned from my grandma who used to have the old school scissors, but even these now a days can be taken care of
Yes, but I wear out the screw in the center as well. For me, it's worth the $12 a year to buy new ones that work perfectly.
Thank you for sharing!
The Stampin' Up! Paper snips are VERY thin and do not make the bump at the tips.
Maybe your town has a scissors sharpener.
Good to know! I also tend to strip the screw that holds the blades together and eventually they just don’t open and close properly.
@@lauraalbertscrafts the yellow and black ones are good too.
Loved your post!
Finally I found a fussy cut video, thank you so much 🙂
I am so glad it was helpful, Janette! I love fussy cutting and find it super relaxing.
@@lauraalbertscrafts Thank you, Laura! I will try that. Big hugs to you too! 🤗
Awesome!😊
I hope it was helpful, Marybeth! This tutorial was heavily requested!

I was today years old when I learned to angle snips for a fussy cut.
Glad it was helpful! I find this puts much less stress on my hands and makes it so much easier to see exactly where I'm cutting!
Lovely ideas🤗
