- Giant Dipper at Santa Cruz Beach Boardwalk is a classic wood coaster and a National Historic Landmark. This Prior & Church creation is the crown jewel of this seaside park and it may also be the best boardwalk coaster out there!
That horn at the beginning will forever be iconic
It's a fun start.
I LOVE this roller coaster. Its my favorite classic woodie
It's fantastic.
@@CanobieCoaster2 thumbs ☝ ☝
Love me a woodie. Love the night lights. Nice.
Me too.
I love Morgan trains more then the PTC trains on most wooden coasters I’ve been on those and they gave me headaches and Morgan trains are much smoother and newer trains and don’t cause headaches I love all the wooden coasters that have Morgan Trains. Except for Giant Dipper at Belmont Park in San Diego. Great video as always
I don't think the train is the issue with Belmont's Giant Dipper. It's the trackwork.
@@CanobieCoasteroh
That looks fun!
Also, I was first! 😃
It's awesome in back.
This is my home park and is in walking distance from where I live. I love the Santa Cruz Beach Boardwalk and had worked there as a ride operator back in 1970's. Thanks!
I love this park.
Did you work at giant dipper as a ride operator
@@dioncampos8285 Yes, I did occasionally from 1978 to 1980. It was a team that operated the Giant Dipper.
@Sasuke Dark Gaming X Naruto I loved those coaster trains. They were more streamlined looking. And I preferred the old green track over the red track. My favorite era of the Boardwalk was in the 1970's when the Wild Mouse still existed.
I ❤❤❤❤ riding the Giant Dipper
1 time that I was there on April 3rd 2005 me and 2 kids I know rode the Dipper multiple Xs then it started raining we rode it in the rain til they had to close up for the day then my folks and I came back to Sacramento. That s where I used to live
I love giant dipper
Me too.
This one looks like a Thrill. 😉
It's excellent in back.
There was a made for 📺 movie called Thrill. This rollercoaster and the boardwalk was featured in the movie. Antonio Sabato Jr and Stepfanie Kramer co starred
@@jojovaldez2766 Yep, I saw that movie on TV a long time ago. To a person who knows how amusement rides work, some of the situations shown in that movie were pretty silly.
Love the color scheme and the fact that they bitered to paint the underside of the track red. It just makes it look amazing. White and red, white and blue are my favorite coaster color schemes. Also can you do a video on chippewa lakes big dipper. Maybe do videos on defunct coasters that closed years before we were born.
I only like to cover coasters I've ridden so I can give my unique thoughts.
The color of the structure and track has been white and red for a long time
Yeah that looks ace
It's wonderful.
Big grin on me @ 3:53 (Pop corn) I just polished off some Hatch Cheddar Corn. My memory was a warm summers eve in 1998. Lovely ride with chase lights an Pacific Ocean breeze. Serious nostalgia to visit this seaside park. Morgan trains replaced the originals.
I love this park's atmosphere.
@@CanobieCoasterYes, it most definitely has good atmosphere
Beautiful area. This does not look like the California I am used to seeing on TV. Gorgeous looking park
It's beautiful.
I’ve ridden this before back in March 19, 2022 and it’s fun! Fun fact: Giant Dipper was the first ride my brother, his friend, and I rode on that day. We were lucky to ride this first because it started to rain at the Boardwalk later on. I want to ride this wooden coaster again but my fear of heights prevented me from riding it.
It's a fun classic.
Very nicely put together video and very entertaining as well. Thanks for posting this.
You're welcome.
this coaster gives great flojector airtime
Especially in back.
If you give yourself a lot of room in the back seat, it feels really scary on the airtime hills. I wonder if that's how coaster at pne playland feels like
There's no giving yourself room per say. The bar goes to one spot. PNE Coaster is even crazier since you get more space.
Is this a Coney Island cyclone clone ???
This ride came before the Cyclone.
As someone who has ridden both, this is better than the Coney Island Cyclone. Looking at the layout, it is likely Cyclone was inspired by Giant Dipper, as Giant Dipper was built 3 tears before Cyclone (although maybe it's just that they're both 800 meter twister layouts), however the elements on Cyclone are more drawn out resulting in a less forceful ride experience. This is most prevelant with the big hill after the first turnaround on Cyclone, where as Giant Dipper has multiple smaller hills, resulting in more aggressive airtime.
Im going work at giant dipper honk the horn when riders are seated and ready
Nice!
Thanks Canobie Coaster
idk whats up with this thing, cant seem to make up its mind on if its rough or smooth... its different every time i go lol
It's smoother than you'd expect for a nearly 100 year old ride, but it isn't glass smooth.
@@CanobieCoaster yeah that’s a good way to put it, smoother than you’d expect.
Iron
It runs fine as wood.
Especially there are two classic and historic wooden coasters in California, one at Santa Cruz and one at...
Belmont Park
How many classic Giant Dipper wooden coasters are there in the world? What do you think?
California has two, but I think the name was used elsewhere too.
Put here the year the Santa Cruz version opened and the year the Belmont version opened:
1924 for Santa Cruz and 1925 for Belmont.
