I remember being so excited for the new school year growing up! Double and triple checking my backpack, my mom put it on top of the fridge as it was waaayyy past bed time but she promised my hello kitty and spiderman notebbooks were still there, all cozy with my markers and pencils. YES! Be excited for school, to learn! Love it see it!!
I have mixed feelings just remembering when you both announced having twins and now they both starting first day of grade one. Seems like we jumped from newborns to first day of grade one in a blink of our eyes. Your family is amazing with extraordinary principles, values, integrity and respect. I am a great fan of you four. As a former teacher I would love to have children in my classroom like yours, prepared, well versed and supported by their parents. I am reminded of the old saying "Today is the first day of the rest of your life!" Holland and Stones first day of school changes all of your lives so much! School runs and PTA's. Thank you for speaking out in support of public schools and teachers! Next to parenting, teaching is the most important and yet most under appreciated profession in the world! I am not a teacher, but my husband, a sister and many other family members and friends are/were teachers in the public school system and what they do on a daily basis for our children, with limited supplies, poor pay and sometimes very little support, is nothing short of a miracle! I spent 6 years as a kindergarten Paraprofessional, took time off to raise my son and returned to the public schools as a part time Health Aide for 9 years. I have seen the stress, frustration and anxiety our teachers (and children) experience daily and yet they show up day after day and year after year for the love of their students. Our teachers are doing the best they can and it’s time this country opens it’s eyes and sees that teachers deserve our respect because none of us would be where we are today without them! I had to google Charter schools as we don't really have them in Oz. Our state schools are public/government run and our private are usually religious based. Interesting concept. It is also nice to be part of Holland and Stones first day of school. Congratulations

We parents are more excited than our kids. Now my daughters are all grown up, my eldest is already working and my youngest is in 3rd year college taking up civil engineering. Time really flies.

Thanks for bringing these issues into your blog. So many people forget that these teachers become family members to our kids. Just simple things like providing paper, pencils, pens, markers, easers, and an added bounce would be 25 books that the kids can read. I know while my kids were in school I provided a new set (25) of reading books every 3 months. The school loved having the books which the teachers shared with other teachers after their students read them. I was able to find books at bulk rated prices about $4 per book. Very low prices for something that benefited my children's knowledge and that of their friends.
