- One hundred years ago, according to Navy lore, the United States entered World War I and opened a troop training camp in San Diego, complete with a budding naval dispensary.
The dispensary has grown into a crown jewel of Navy medicine and is celebrating its centennial this year.

So excited I found this! I was born there in 1958! WOW! Thank you! 💕
I worked at NMCSD from 1992-2004. Corpsman A school at Naval school of Health Sciences. Stayed in the pink palace where it was Corpsman barracks back then right before C school. Great place to work and many fond memories! 😊
I was so grateful for their services in the maternity department. Where our first son was born. Happy memories 1972♥️
Went to basic Corps School there at end of '87. Was there to transition from the old to the new hospital. Walked into town many a time to Horton Plaza and across the road to the zoo.
Absolutely gorgeous zoo
I was born there and I remember the guarded gate you had to get through to enter the hospital, having a small plastic white card with your name, you parents name who was in the military
his or her social and you had to give that card to a personal and the would give you your chart. I also remember there was a small chapel building you could see when you was at the front of the hospital, having to go get prescription by hand and waiting on the benches tp be called, that was a very large , beautiful hospital.
Was stationed at the old 'Grey Ghost' back in 1968 when going thru Hospital Corps School (Company 32). Can't remember our Company Nurse's name, but she was a short little LtCDR with a real strong southern accent. Met a lot good people there.
I worked there in the 1980s and my daughter was born there.
1981 🙌
