According to the game's composer, Kris Maddigan, there was originally going to be a water-themed world. Going off of Super Mario Bros., he created a waltz tune for its music, but the world was cut, so its music became the Elder Kettle's theme. This would also explain why Inkwell Isle Three has two more bosses than the preceding worlds; the water-themed bosses, Captain Brineybeard and Cala Maria, were likely moved here after their world was cut.

This was originally going to be the map music for another area of Inkwell Isle (likely Inkwell Isle 4), which would've been a water-themed world. Cala-Maria and Captain Brineybeard were presumably originally going to be bosses in this world along with several water themed bosses that never made it out of the concept stages. Presumably, Jelly the Octopus would've been among these bosses, given his sea themed nature as an octopus with an angler fish antenna. In the final game, they cut this world (and Jelly the Octopus) altogether, used this as the Elder Kettle's theme, and moved Cala-Maria and Captain Brineybeard into Inkwell Isle 3 as two extra bosses. The theme was done as a waltz in reference to the Super Mario Bros. underwater theme.
Why did Elder Kettle know magic? How and why did he have such confidence Cuphead and Mugman could beat the devil? I think that Kettle's story needs to be explored. Mayhaps the Elder had "dealt with the devil" before...

How to beat the elder kettle: This is a very hard battle. The weapons you might need is the lobber and the roundabout. He has ALOT of hp when you have to hear what he says. First use the lobber while flipping through the pages. You will usually come out with 1 or 2 HP. After that.. oh dont get me started on the second phase.. I dont have much wisdom on this phase.. you really have to *learn* everything by yourself.. your lucky if you have 1 hp left.. cause YOU CANT GET THROUGH THE LAST PHASE… elder kettle BLINKS at you.. and gives you the *wiLliEs* and it triggers your brain to think you lost so then you cant go to the door.. 10020403/10 difficulty..
I know it’s supposed to be the theme of an unused section for the overworld, but now that it’s used as Elder Kettle’s theme, it just gives off that cozy feeling of home, and Elder Kettle relaxing in his house while reminiscing his younger days, thinking of all those good times and adventures he probably had.
