    Well done AAR! I enjoyed watching the action from your point-of-view and where my efforts were effective or ineffective. I also learned from this battle.

      Thanks, Monk! Glad you enjoyed it.
      Looks like we will possibly face off again, if tournament/campaign sign-ups are anything to go by. :)

    Awesome AAR! I need to dive into some H2H matches. Artillery really did a lot of work, combine that with some bloody close quarters, and you have an entertaining engagement!

    "Smoking Kills". Fantastic.
    This was brutal. You were dealt some bad cards right off the bat. Your armor really saved your bacon. I was surprised to see such a high number of casualties on the American side. People were dropping like flies on both sides, but it seemed like they had the upper hand most of the time.

      The armor DEFINITELY saved my bacon. I also was surprised at the US casualties. Sometimes the enemy is having just as hard a time as you are, but you don't always know it!

    Very good video AAR. Well done both players. I liked that you were able to use the 37mm halftrack so actively, even though the gunner was sticking out of the vehicle like he were floating in the air. Expected him to get hit at any moment.
    Also I liked your explanation and illustration of the plan.

    Yes, playing against a human is definitely better. Hopefully the the next generations of AI will be a big step forward. Of course, my ability to know the lines of sight in the scenario is limited, but nonetheless, putting troops in the second story of a building lets them see and shoot at more targets.... but, it also makes the units in the second story a good target for more enemy units, from farther away. I generally like defilade and "rear slope" positions with interlocking fields of fire, if possible. It looked like Monk decided to emphasize an infantry and mortar mix, while the German player spent points more on mech and armor, which made for an interesting contrast in the battle. As the Revolution War Ranger handbook said: Get there first-est with the most-est.

    The M113 gunners in Cold War share your pain, literally as well as figuratively. If I have a few extra points left to spend on a QB, I will often get a couple of utility vehicles (jeep, Kubelwagen, et al). Besides carrying passengers, they are good for pushing small arms ammo up for resupply. Dismounting the driver can get him into an APC/IFV to get that valuable gun back up, help monitor the radio and provide extra eyes for the optics, etc. Also good for sneaking about the field providing medical care to casualties. Gamey? No, just another abstraction.
    Given the size and terrain on the map, I think you used your two tanks as well as you could have - pushing them closer into the village after the fact would’ve needed a good sized infantry screen to protect them both heading in and defending them from that point on. Perhaps one of them could’ve joined the initial race into the village?

    • @onepingonly1097
      @onepingonly1097  2 года назад +1

      I had considered that, but I had assumed Monk would be bringing at least 2 Shermans or maybe TDs, and being down in the "bowl" of the village just seemed too vulnerable. (Little did I know that Monk spent most of his 'extra' points on mortars!). Again, that's symptomatic of being more afraid of losing a tank than of getting the job done.

    A very enjoyable video. The "Smoking kills" section was hilarious. Just one minor point, the locals are Limburgers rather than Flemish.

    • @onepingonly1097
      @onepingonly1097  2 года назад +1

      Thanks! I had a hard time wrapping a "story" around this one. The building signage in the village reference "Vlaanderen" (Flanders) and I struggled to find a plausible battlefield for US vs. Germans in Holland (other than M-G, of course). So...my fiction went for a battle in that area near Aachen where the Netherlands, Belgium, and Germany intersect. Perhaps I can make it up to the Limburgers by eating some of their cheese :) .
