Usually a fan, and I get that slagging Apple is good for clicks, and maybe you really do believe in some Apple conspiracy. I find the Ultra lets me spend less time on the phone, and it is an outstanding piece of tech objectively speaking. You also completely ignore the health & safety features: especially fall detection, but also afib. Both my parents (late 70s, fyi) wear an Apple Watch, and I'm grateful. LOVE my mechanical watch, but it's a totally different object ... would never occur to me to compare the two.

I love your videos, but this is a rant. - Unless you ditch all your other Apple products and switch to the joys of a manual typewriter, you're just prematurely turning into one of us old men ranting into the internet void.

What a terrible atrocity of a watch... if you can call it that. It's essentially an iPhone "mini", with a strap. I swear Apple fanbois would buy a loaf of bread for £5 if it had an Apple logo on it.

Not true- it is healthy to put on limits. Adoring the mechanical marvels of your automatic watch while having an IPhone is a good balance.

Couple of points here. Firstly, Android does all the same type of tracking on the same type of phones and the same type of wearables. It’s not just an Apple issue. Indeed, if Samsung could kill Apple, they would - the competition is part of the game. Secondly, I agree with the addiction thing - I had an Apple watch. Threw it in a drawer when I got fed up with the constant buzzing. For fitness tracking the fitbit I use does enough and the screen is never on.
Ranting against tech is fine, but singling out one company in a multi vendor marketplace when they’re all playing the same game - that’s either petty or ill-informed .

Firstly, I love mechanical watches. But I hate my iPhone. I spend too much time on it dumbscrolling through nonsense. I've tried going back to a Nokia etc - but that's too regressive and a bit digital minimalism. I've got an Apple Watch Ultra ironically to try and spend less time on my phone. My vice is Instagram the internet etc. I can leave my phone in the house knowing that I can still receive calls, texts, and pay for stuff. I've got all the other notifications turned off. I get the ridiculousness of giving Apple more money to try and free me from Apple...
Your points are all fair btw, but really the issue is how to spend less time on your phone - and you can use this as a way to do that.
    Good content Harrison!

Apple Watch is juste a extension of your iPhone ;)
You can disable notification, right ? ^^
You can be addicted with classic watches... it's a collector, right ?
Internet is a addiction at the end.

    1. Recharge regularly, maybe even more than automatic watches
    2. It is surplus my needs, if you already taken care of your health god enough this thing is almost useless
    3. Battery does not drain, it just disappear in the wind
    4. No fashionable at all
    5. Even Chinese Flieger can dive deeper
    6. Fall of the trend as soon as you buy it
    7. What is heritage?
    8. Too much settings if you gave to someone as heritage/estate
    9. Boring
    10. People does not need social media all time
    11. No signal means virtually dead as same as no battery
    12. Sometimes you just want to be disappeared not by all mean follow by something/someone all the time

Now, I’d just say that invention is an important part of human development and all the tech Companies are inventing newer things for the betterment, luxury and need. It’s up to you to decide if you really want that specific thing or not as no one’s forcing you. The humankind will never (they shouldn’t) stop inventing but an individual can stop himself/herself from buying that invention. Period!

Hmm, I do find my watch helps me look at my phone far less. I restrict notifications to the watch, so only the most important ones come up on the watch, so if my phone buzzes in my pocket, and I don't get a notification on my wrist, I actually now tend to ignore it.
Again, I'm a huge Apple Watch fan, I love having quick weather info, sunset time complications on the watch face, having workout data after in the gym, or setting a quick task reminder, but I don't really spent much time looking at it. It is primarily a watch to me, but I am rocking the stainless 41mm version, which is far more discreet than the Ultra.

Sounds like your real problem is with your own impulse control, don’t be mad at Apple for capitalizing on it 😅 you want their products you support them so stop complaining.
I LOVE my watch ultra 2, for the first time in years I can leave my phone at home and go out without dragging it around as a distraction, that’s the real power of something like the ultra, it free’s you from your phone.

I tried an iphone, but hated the restrictions. Personally, if I wanted a smart watch, especially given the price, i'd buy garmin. When I bought my Longines HC, there were a number of watches offered, including a smartwatch. I pushed the smartwatch away first. Apple just not my bag, including the watch.

I can't take this video seriously. Without going into detail, you seen a little bit hypocritical. You condemn social media, but you work in social media. You condemn Apple products, but you use a lot of Apple products. Finally, is comparing a luxury mechanical watch to an Apple Watch a fair comparison? I own Apple Watches and mechanical watches and the only thing they have in common is the fact that they tell the time. The Apple Watch is simply an extension of the iPhone. Mechanical watches are jewelry. It's ok to like ( and wear ) both.

My Apple Watch only tracks my sleep, steps and workouts. I leave it on Airplane mode all day. When I work out I turn off airplane mode but soon as I’m done I turn it on again. When I track my sleep at night it is on airplane mode as well. So I only use it as a sleep tracker, activity tracker and time piece.

Very well said Harrison (as always). Not only are we being bombarded with notifications about what the weather is doing or how unfit we are these things are gathering data, heartrate, exercise, what type of exercise, location etc. This data is valuable for targeted adds and more notifications. OK I'm unfit, well I've had three surgeries in four months, I don't need or want to be notified that I'm really unfit and need to pay for something to get me better. That stuff just increases anxiety, so I turn off these features where possible. I have enough to worry about without all this. Yes I do have a 'smart watch' but I declined (I hope) sending data it's collecting and I limit what can send notifications from my phone. Apologies about the little rant but on my left wrist I'm very happy with my Black Bay Pro that I can look at and smile that my little mechanical machines heart is beating and so is mine.

I don't get your arguments about why people will become more dependent on the iPhone and social media because of the Apple Watch? There are no social media apps like IG, Facebook or Snapchat for the Apple Watch. What you get are notifications just like the iPhone. You give no concrete examples and only claim that the screen time will increase. The Ultra has made me less dependent on my iPhone. I don't have to pick up the phone all the time. If there is a notification, I just check the clock and get on with life. I can receive calls without having to pick up the phone. On the weekends, it has happened that I switch off the iPhone and leave it at home and instead rely on my Ultra which has a 4G connection and I can receive the necessary calls and texts. I have a hard time and think that people sit and scrolling on the Apple Watch like you do with an iPhone because that possibility does not exist because the UI is limited on the Apple Watch. This thing about the watch monitoring you, it's true. It measures everything, but there is an encryption chip in all Apple products that means neither Apple can see sensitive data about you. They can see how their product is used but not which places you've been, what you buy with Apple Pay, your health, etc.
I get the feeling from this video that you have already decided to hate smart watch. I love watches and love both worlds. Like your channel, but feel like you have no clue what your talking about here.

I have one sat in a drawer, realised I have my phone for that stuff, the watch is just a diificult interface to do slightly less. Buzzes away in an annoying fasion, unless you turn off notifications. Also, felt as attavhed to it as my phone. In other words, not at all. Just a tool. Probably one I'll help to replace every four years. Thx, but no thanks,

So this video is just a preach for people to use their phones less. It has nothing to do with the Apple Watch Ultra at all? If anything, the Apple Watch helps with preventing people taking out their phones. Also, the data being sent to Apple, is tragic. You're scared? About what? Pathetic, click bait of a video.

Guess i'd still just buy cheaper smartwatch to use in any beating activities and spend more money on mechanical watches.

  • @manchurian53

I’m not sure what your point is. First, Apple is in a competitive market. Of course they’re going to make the best products they can. It’s not up to them to make sure their competitors can maintain a certain market share. Second, of course they want people tied to the Apple universe and that’s why their products integrate so seamlessly. Third, you define how much screen time you use everyday. That’s an issue about personal discipline, not the Watch itself. I don’t spend a lot of my time looking at. I use it for tracking my runs and other workouts, tell the time, check the weather, see messages, etc. Fourth, the Ultra’s competition is Garmin and other sports watches. It’s a sports watch for athletes. It has certain advantages over Garmin as well as disadvantages. Its size and thickness is pretty much the same as a Garmin. Fifth, it is a totally different product than a mechanical watch. That comparison is meaningless. Sixth, it has the advantage of allowing you to leave your phone behind. You’re on a rant with no understanding of who this watch is designed for and who the competition is. This video is not at all helpful. It sounds like you’re just not a fan of smart watches, which is fine. Rant about that without ranting about a specific watch.
