Rafe WANTS to do better, he tells whezie he's gonna clean up his act, he asks his dad for help when he knows somethings wrong, he tells his dad that he's gonna pay him back. He's just so far off the deep end that he's swimming down thinking it's up. it hurts my heart.
every scene of rafe crying made me tear up, when all he wanted was wards love and was willing to kill for it as well made me cry so much bcs of how much ward fucked up as a father to his other children, i felt so terrible for rafe this whole show and i wished him so much better
When Ward calls Rafe a “liar” and a “thief” I get SO MAD because he did those things because of his addiction which most likely started to ease the anxiety he felt from the pressure his dad put on him. But no one would help him so he always turned to drugs
People don't understand that the reason Rafe is like this is because of Ward. Ward's favoritism towards Wheezie and Sarah, mostly Sarah, made him desperate to make his dad proud, hungry for Ward's approval. That's why he did some of the things he did. Not all of them, but most of them. He's just a broken kid
Now that I'm seeing this all together, I feel really sorry for Rafe. He needs a person that he can rely on and that he can come to to talk about his feelings. He needs a hug. Everyone was so into the hunt for gold that no one saw him struggling.
I never really saw Rafe as a bad person, I thought of him as a broken man who needed help and Ward wouldn’t give it to him because of his own selfishness. Rafe even told Ward that he needed help and Ward did nothing about it, Rafe just wanted to be loved and needed help to cope with everything.

I never did anything to make her feel this way. I was born a stone around her neck that she hated. I live the rest of my life with this.
