GARMARNA comments: Två Systrar
This one goes deep.
We’ve been playing around with this classic tale of betrayal and revenge before but it was always put on hold. Not this time. The poetry is breathtaking, it doesn’t get much starker than this.
Musically, for us this is one of the most satisfying songs we’ve done. With Garmarna, there is always a riddle. An escape room. We’re trapped until we solve the puzzle. Here, it started with an original idea of ours blended with a traditional melody and in an hour we transformed a whole bunch of ideas into a melody that just flows.
Stefan was playing around with the amazing Elektron Octatrack, preparing a soundpack of nordic sounds (keep your eyes open for that). So a Mouth harp, treated in a million ways, created a set of harmonies we could play on the keyboard. The strange harmonies seemed to be the key so we followed.
There has been some moments where creating music is expanding ones soul and mind in ways words cannot describe and personally, the creation of Två Systrar is one of the most powerful examples of this.
We’re so proud to present ”Två Systrar”.
Enjoy!
Outstanding I mean that really great much love and thank you from Oklahoma USA
Uy gracias (thank you), tendrás la letra? (do you have the lyrics?)
Offering this comment to the algorithm gods so that they bless garmarna
I second that motion
Greetings from Turkey. I don't understand lyrics but I love this song
English translation (by Alistair Cochrane)
There were two sisters who lived by the sea
- Troubled my years -
“Will you walk down to the shore with me?”
- Trouble your words will bring me -
The younger was fair as the sun is bright
The elder as dark as the soil at night.
The younger went first with her hair in the wind
Her false-hearted sister came closely behind.
And there from a rock that was lofty and steep
She pushed her young sister down into the deep
“Oh sister, dear sister, don’t leave me to drown
I*ll make you a gift of my golden crown”
“Your gold and your crown I care nothing for
You’ll never walk God’s green earth any more”
“Oh sister, dear sister, please bring me to land
My bright golden bracelet you’ll wear on your hand”
“Oh sister, sweet sister, don’t leave me for dead
I’ll give to you my true love to court and to wed”
“Your true love I’ll marry, whatever you say
You’ll never walk God’s green earth anyway”
“Fare thee well, dear father
My wedding shall be in the water”
“And fare thee well, dear mother
My wedding toast shall be bitter”
“Fare thee well, my sister dear
I’m drinking far more than I should, I fear”
Some fishermen fishing by night from their boat
They found this fair maid in the ocean afloat
They took up her body as white as the sand
And carried it back to be laid on the strand
They made a fine harp of her snowy white breast
To play at her sister’s wedding feast
They made some fine strings of her golden hair
To play at the wedding for all who were there
The very first note that the harper did play
The young maiden’s voice rang out from the grave
The very next note rang as clear as the first:
- Troubled my years -
- Trouble your words will bring me - “A curse on my cruel sister!”
Very similar lyrics to an English traditional song called Cruel Sister, recorded by both Pentangle and The Old Blind Dogs
Thank you so much 🖤🖤🔮
Thank you
Wow cool lyrics
Wow this Is litterally The bonny Swans! Same source material?
Definitely the best song of the album. Could easily become a trademark song of Garmarna like Herr Mannelig.
GARMANA ONE OF THE BEST TRADITIONAL FOLK BANDS I NEVER
I usually dont repeat a song, especially when i hear it for the first time, but oh, Garmarna, you clicked something in me
Best song begining
I feel my heart swell as I listen to another one of your masterpieces walking down an empty road on the Irish countryside in the middle of the night. I look up at the bright moon and remember the symbolism of the two sisters. It is almost as if the moon herself is singing me this tale of woe.
This sound so fresh for something so rooted in the old times!
A Real talented group
Sweden must send this wonderful group to the esc
Viken vacker röst beautiful Voice
Seasons Of Mist always delivers. I had not heard of Gamarna before and i will add them to my rotation with Wardruna and Heilung.
Listen to hedningarna. I would suggest trå, kaksi, or hippjokk because you like heilung, it's a tribal sound.
Actually Garmarna is the bad that had heavilly influenced many modern prominent folk bands.
f.e. Faun has repeatedly stated that.
Songs of both,Garmarna and Wardruna will be sung at my funeral.
This is even better than the previous single. So glad I pre-ordered the album...
I'm glad I just discovered that Garmarna brought new songs to the world! Två Systrar is incredible! Thank you sooo much! Emma's voice still sounds haunting and calming at the same time. Much much love, everyone did a great job!

UND DIE SOLLEN FUNKTIONIEREN !
long time no see!?
En slags blandning mellan Varulven och Herr Holkin, åtminstone textmässigt.
Garmarna ne yapsa harika oluyor
X DRAUF !
This would work well as psytrance remix
Please make one 😭
What is the original name of this tale please ?
The tale of the two twa sisters.
SOLLEN FROH SEIN : DASS SIE DABEI SIND !

Maybe the bad sister is her alter ego.

Native Europeans stay true to your roots and ancestors.
@Z1dm3 Would you take issue with this phrasing: "Native Americans stay true to your roots and ancestors"? Ask yourself why you react this way regarding your own people, but not others. Or are you not European?
A simple, fair and righteous statement that will generate a lot of hatred and anger. Those people should really think long and hard about why the react in such a way about their own people, but not others who say the same thing.
Beneath a pagan european song you just write a comment about European nations and some people just cant stand it. Maybe folk music isnt for you. Folk pagan music is about roots and nature, it is archaic and nostalgic about a lost golden era of myths and heroes. Roots myths archaic, heroes etc? Your hysteria takes all these thing as...white supremacist nazi things. Better listen to some pop modern music.
@@KataDaemonaEaftou the problem with this is that these nationalistic, tribalistic, folkish...short: racist interpretations of ancient culture would be entirely alien to our ancestors.
Ancient europe didn't have "nations", it had a few different cultures, but those differences actually get really muddy the further back you go.
If you were truly, as you say, talking about "archaic" things, about roots, myths and heroes, you would realise that these are extremely similar all over the world, that humanity is in fact one race and that we should unite rather than divide.
Folk pagan music is in fact not nostalgic about a "golden era", it is celebrating a culture very much alive in the present, and your ancestors would be ashamed of you for being stuck in the past and thus ignoring all their accomplishments and all the progress they worked towards.
@@LaughingMan44 yes, in fact I would have the same issue with the phrasing "native americans", as it's equally nationalist and divisive.
This is what they seek to take from you. Which way, European man?
@@YoungB17akaLilFlyingFortress Kalergi plan
Who is "they"?
And how, exactly, would "they" be able to take a piece of music away from me?
@@YoungB17akaLilFlyingFortress Yeah I was obviously talking about folk and not European culture in general. But you knew that anyway, and decided to pretend that's what I meant in a snarky, low IQ response.
@@Tacklepig I couldn't possibly imagine being this low IQ
@Liss2271 Imagine being this completely unaware of the current cultural climate, cultural trends, and the types of people and ideologies pushing it.
