👏 Excellent Review… for a first time reader. lol I discovered Smith and other Pre-Atomic-Age writers when I was researching a script idea, and was SHOCKED to discover the cleverness of these Practical Engineers of Pie-In-The-Sky fiction. This included the Oddness of John Carter being a precursor to The Man Who Leap Over Tall Buildings. 😅 - also The name Kimball is a direct reference to Kim, in the Spy Novel, KIM by Rudyard Kipling. (Totally worth a read for the contextual references Smith makes to it. ) In this series, Smith is attempting to solidify a reality of Actual Cosmic Horror being defeated by Science and Will Power! The Big Good (Angels) & The Big Bad (Demons) 🤔 are like the Greek Gods, puppeting their pawns to do their bidding, but the Arisians are going beyond that. They are breeding a replacement to supersede them. (Very similar to the Ancients in the Stargate series, and The Shadows & Vorlons of B5) SPOILERS 😂 - fun note, the battle armor that Kim uses against Helmuth, may be the origin of ALL powered armor in SF History- take that Starship Troopers & Gundam! 😊 🙌 Keep Reading … Smith speaks to the Child of Wonder in all of us.
I'm definitely enjoying the series! It's fun and imaginative and full of great action and larger-than-life characters. The fact that the Kindle version of the series I got is missing all the footnotes is making me want to go searching through old bookstores for some paper copies! I gotta check out John Carter, and I could always go for more Kipling. Thanks for the recommendations!
