      I seriously hate saying this but...is it possible he was hit by a passing car after his accident and they moved him elsewhere? Or someone stopped to render aid, picked him up and Shane succumbed to injuries in their vehicle and they panicked and possibly placed his body elsewhere? I know this is 2 years old it's the first time I'm seeing this but it may be worth it to broaden the search area....possibly trace a route to the nearest hospital and look along the road ways along that route/routes?

    • @susiq4857
      @susiq4857 5 лет назад +5

      @@alyssamathews7492 I think that's what happened. Someone panicked and was afraid of being charged with vehicular homicide so they took his body somewhere and buried it.

    I noticed there was a lot of truckers going past during the footage, could it be that, Fell was struck by a vehicle ACCIDENTALLY whilst trying to flag down some help, and the individual responsible took his body out of fear/panic.. Just a thought. :)

    It probably is therapeutic and I feel like a bitch saying this, but releasing balloons actually isn't a great idea because after they pop the broken materials falls it can really harm wildlife.

    Once, I was driving from San Francisco to Sacramento (a 1.5hr to 2hr drive) and while I was driving, my tire exploded. I got over 4 lanes and had to park on the side of the freeway. I was too far from an exit to watch. I called my mom over and over and over. i was waiting in my car, but every time a car went by, it would shake the crap out of my tiny celica, so I decided to get out of the car and wait until maybe someone came by to help. someone did, eventually. thankfully that someone turned out to be a cop, about an hour after my tire exploded. he put my spare on for me, and I went about my way home.
    that could have ended horribly.
    thanks john, for telling people to say in their cars. it's so important.

    Such a sad case! I think if he was on foot walking why would it be so hard to find him if he brother and police was there 20 mins later. I cannot see how far he could get on foot probably in shocked without a shoe, unless he lost his memory sometimes after his brother talked to him and just disappearing. I really have to wonder after seeing the brother's video how it was in that area, he either got picked up by the wrong person or got hit by a car.

    I know of a really old case out of Tennessee. Leanne Greene back in 1987. Sad case with no resolution. The police have theories and a possible suspect, but they never found her. This one is somewhat similar as she disappeared from a broken down vehicle she and her brother were riding in.

If anyone sees someone making these, please look at his face. Remember his mole. He may not know who he is. He could still be here in New Orleans, or any city at this point. June is a warm time of the year in the south. Could a gator have gotten him? Middle of the night, he's bleeding and by a levy, wondering around disoriented. No matter who you are after a wreck there is a degree of disorientation. I wonder if a gator could have smelled that and got him. They hide in the mud too and that would explain his shoe in the mud. He would have been taken into the water and pinned under a log or something for later. There's a good chance there would be no remains.

    • @LordanARTS
      @LordanARTS  8 лет назад +6

      +Christy Stracener It's certainly a possibility, as much as I hope it isn't the case. Thanks for the insight Christy.

      If not a gator, then perhaps a mountain lion or even feral dogs could've taken him.

    • @504RoadTrips
      @504RoadTrips 7 лет назад +5

      Christy Stracener the accident happened just off of a suburban area. Gators and other wildlife are highly unlikely in that area. The river was in flood stage when the accident happened, and my personal speculation is that he climbed up the levee to check out the river and fell in. With the high water and fast current, it would not have been survivable, even for a strong swimmer.

    • @alicesmith7913

      I'm thinking on those lines as well. A gator being out, especially knowing he was hurt, that gator would pick up on that for sure. When I saw the map, I had a bad feeling that a gator had got him. Anything is possible. He could be living somewhere with no memory or one that is confused. A very sad story, hope one day this family will be reunited with their missing loved- one.

      I'm thinking a gator as well, especially in Louisiana. Might explain the lost shoe.

  • @VeggieGamer
    @VeggieGamer 8 лет назад +19

    Yeah I think this is technically the 4th Searchlight where a car has been abandoned. That connection definitely makes you think...
    With the shoe found -
    I notice you say it was found 'in the mud'. Do you know if it was in a state where it was deep in mud to the point where possibly Shane had to take his foot out of it to get his leg free? Or it was found on top (loss) in a muddy area? I notice that in the video by his brother, he says that the corner can be dangerous "at night", so presumably the accident took place at night? If so I can imagine Shane leaving his shoe behind if it is stuck in mud. But if it wasn't stuck then that may suggest something more sinister may have happened.
    Also I wonder what the street lighting is like in that area? It looks out of the way and pretty industrial. So it is possible it could have been pitch black out there. With the river so close by and the potential of other cars possibly hitting someone that is trying to wave them down night, visibility could have played a major part in the disappearance (I hate speculating about things like this, but just giving my two cents).
    Great video, John! These Searchlight episodes are always heartbreaking, so great work on publicising these cases.

    • @LordanARTS
      @LordanARTS  8 лет назад +7

      +Veggie Gamer I do believe it was "stuck" and not just on top of the mud. Depending on the mindset/shock of Shane, he might have not even been aware that he pulled his foot out of it initially. I know the footage is from the day time, but I don't see any light posts on that bend, and I know one of those industrial sites is not operating, so they likely wouldn't be lighting up that lot either. Pretty dangerous spot in my opinion.

    • @Brian-zc2ip
      @Brian-zc2ip 8 лет назад +3

      +GeekenDorx That road is very dark at night. extremely dangerous bend. hardly any traffic after business hours. if he lost his shoe in the muddy bank he quite possibly wouldn't be able to locate it.
      he would have had to walk a stretch(maybe a mile or so)to get to any houses.

      Kas it seems to be a lag on so many investigations, where they assume that it’s not serious. We all know time is of the essence. Critical evidence is lost. I have often wondered if it wouldn’t be more efficient to go ahead and brings the dogs out on the beginning. They talk so much about the cost of the resources but how much of that would be lowered, if we brought the dogs out within 24 hours versus 4 days to 6months.... after exhausting ground searches, helicopter searches etc. I understand there are processes and guidelines but this has also been a big impairment to many investigations. It needs to be evaluated and included in the initial search. In my opinion.

    Sadly there is not that ultimate "stay in the car" solution - if you have an accident in a dangerous spot, chances are there are more vehicles to drive by. If they don't see your car, they might as well crash into it and that would not be that good either... Don't know about the US, but here in Germany it's something you learn very early in driving schools: If you had an accident and you are able to do so, get yourself out of the danger zone as fast as possible. :-/

    • @LordanARTS
      @LordanARTS  8 лет назад +3

    EDIT - *POSSIBLY IMPORTANT INFORMATION*
    I read a cracked article written by a woman who had went missing.
    In the article she explained how she'd had a mental breakdown of some sort, and was taken to a mental hospital.
    Due to this she suddenly became *NEARLY IMPOSSIBLE TO FIND*.
    Although it was a "cracked" article which is known for it's comedic style, I believe this is important.
    Source: (www.cracked.com/article_21960_5-strange-realities-being-missing-person.html)
    -------------------------------------
    The brother and police arrived at the scene of the accident within 20 minutes, however, this doesn't go to say that Shane wasn't tending to injuries for 10+ minutes before police and the brother were alerted about the accident in the first place.
    The content of the phone call is quite important.
    Were there sounds of cars going by? How distant did they sound?
    Did he state he was waiting for help at the car?
    Did he state he was waiting for help at all?
    Could he have been walking while on the phone?
    Could he have been in someone else's car at the time?
    Was anyone else's voice heard? What did they say?
    Did he say anything which could be linked to his whereabouts in the short term?
    (It could be indirect, such as; "Ahh my phone is broke again" - which could link to him having went to a phone repair shop, maybe the one he had went to before).

    At night, next to the Mississippi, not good, lost his shoe. From the wreck it's a long walk either way but if he's confused he could of walked right into the Mississippi, I would like to know how fast the police estimated his speed, and the car flipping and coming to a stop, would be a very hard hit, he might of felt fine right after, but then later feels lost and panics. Maybe some joggers on the trail that night remember something.

      After reading the comments, apparently a couple showed up and talked to him, then another person who immediately calls 911, Shane runs off, problem is, there is only one way to run and that is towards the river, it's dark and he may be drunk, trying to navigate the tree line next to the Mississippi would be tough.

I do not even remember that whole day of the accident, however I was in such shock I told people helping I wanted to walk home and to let me up. My femur was crushed and leg had shrunk half the size. I wonder if I would have left the scene or tried to if nobody was there holding me back??I was told I was carrying on conversation until I was taken off. I do not remember any of this. This is really weird. By that video of where the crash happened there seems to be a decent flow of traffic. You would think there would of been some cars passing by at or after the time of the crash. Also there are like warehouse buildings in the back. There would be some degree of light coming from light fixtures on the buildings. In the twenty minutes between the call and the police arriving to me some one must have driven by. Did they check the ping of the phone? I think the memory loss theory is a good one but you'd think he would of still be in the area, how far could one possibly get on foot in the night. Also if the area was muddy there is a greater chance of footprints etc left behind. If there was a potential tussle between him and another individual or gator there would be some degree of evidence on the mud, or potential traces of blood. Really is a mysterious case. Times like this I really wish some of the brain scratch community was on the scene within the hour.

    Would you dump a truckload of toxic waste into a lake in memory of a loved one? Launching balloons has the same devastating effect on the environment and animals! It’s absolutely terrible. I really feel for Shane and all the other families, but deliberately polluting without any care or thought for the outcome (causing harm to all kinds of animals and habitats) is not the way to do it. Why not plant trees instead?! I’m sure the family doesn’t mean to do harm, but hearing that they do this repeatedly breaks my heart! It’s bad enough that people are missing, possibly suffering or killed. How can we then pass on more suffering and death, “in their honor”? To me that is massively disrespectful to the missing person/people. I know that isn’t the intent, but I wish people could see the big picture and think about more than one singular person.

    I don't know about people staying at their car until law enforcement arrive, it must be terrifying under the shock and stress of a car crash I don't blame people for wandering off, concussion/memory loss is really terrifying and its what makes these cases so tough to take, these poor people are not sure whats going on and don't know what to do.

    John, I totally agree & also urge everyone to ALWAYS ALWAYS ALWAYS stay with the vehicle. It is easier for 1st responders to locate a several thousand pound vehicle, then to locate a 100 or 200 lb person.
    It would be like losing your car keys, you look around the house forever, but if your keys were attached to a gallon of water, you would find them quickly in the house.
    The vehicle is larger in size, larger in a thermal image(if needed to search by thermal) & humans look like dots from the sky(if areal search needs to be done).

This guy obviously had a few drinks and it was reported he was way out of his normal route for going home to avoid a Dwi checkpoint that was reportedly in the area. I think after the accident between the couple in the pt cruiser and seeing the security guard he panicked,thought someone was gonna call the cops and he was gonna get popped for a dui. He calls his brother to see if he’s still coming so he goes over that levy to hide and winds up in the strong currents of the mighty Mississippi. Was it a physical killer? No. Did he hit his head so hard that he wondering amisoly through homeless camps? No

    Hi, I live about 3 min from the crash scene. The brother is absolutely correct about that curve, it's dangerous at night and the day too. Many cross over into the other lane making this curve. The lighting is poor at best, the large warehouse you see in the back is empty if not empty , then rarely of use. It's really scary driving this part of River road at night. I won't drive it anymore. Not alone. I've never seen Gators in this area, my thoughts are, someone hit Shane not seeing him. And took him. I really hope this family gets answers, this case has bothered me to my core, I still think of him Everytime I pass this scene.

    I was on this case when it first happened something wack with the bros comments in regs to him calling and two things that he said that were different I think its poss he helped him flee or something else here was it him actually in the car theres lots of things um not sure if the vid thats gone was something i pointed out he said vs what was said on the ol website I haven't looked in years and when I went to check at a later time stuff was gone so I would have to do a deep archive to find that again and not tonight but I wanted to point out exactly what it was but you'll notice the bro randomly calls him after this inncident just additional facts to look at other possibilities here cuz usally these cold cases the story line is bogus
    ya see helpfindshanefell.com/
    but I'm able to go into the site ruclips.net/video/PSPeRGpFLng/видео.html that clip
    ok here it is "His brother, Brett Fell, found Fell's shoe in the mud near the wrecked
    car after his brother called to tell him about the crash 20 minutes
    after it happened and to report that he was OK." perhaps its just the way its written but its funky
    It will leave you going who called who why is he last person to say he randomly called him after crash and finds his shoe then was 20 mins away too (I think thats what it was within a small time frame driving there allegedly) It makes more sense shane called him but no in the clip he says he randomly called him right after it so that part may have been a writers goof or what idk but it stuck with me for yrs thinking ok wait a second

    I've paid attention to the facts presented here. Please, don't take this wrong, especially family members. I'm drawn to the fact that Shane studied jewelry making. I did too. I'd say 9 out of 10 guys in the classes were gay. Could this be true of Shane? And if so, could he have ended up in a gay male community somewhere, like the old quarter in New Orleans? Perhaps with loss of memory? Perhaps being taken advantage of? Of course the fact that his bank account hasn't been accessed since the accident is sobering. This indicates he may have passed away. But maybe my suggestion rates a look. Hope he turns up. It is SO aggravating that a person can just disappear.

      Marrero isn’t that bad. There’s no gangs . Just a couple of hoods (subdivisions) that you don’t go in. They are not seeking people outside of the hood. With that being said he was miles away from “the fellas”. Not a common thing for car wreck victims to be preyed upon. Jefferson parish in 2011 with a population of 430,000 people had 25 murders.

Could be internal damage. Could have tried to rush him to help and he died and panacked. Or was drunk or panicked immediately.

    I still wish you could do a video on the three missing girls from Fort Worth, Tx. It's an old case from 1974 but there has been very little coverage of it. Mostly just a little bit of local coverage but nothing national. But the family is still very active in looking for them. Just this last weekend they dragged a couple cars out of the local lake looking for evidence. Sadly, they didn't find any. Just shows how invested the families STILL ARE after 4 decades and it breaks my heart for them. These girls went Christmas shopping and never returned home. There have been very few clues or tips as to what may have happened to them. I am the one who created the wikipedia article on them. They didn't even have that. They have a group on Facebook though.

    I may have mentioned this before, I watch a lot of this type of shows and videos so it's difficult for me to remember. Have you ever heard of Lisa Stone? She went missing from her home in Dallas, TX in June of 2010 and hasn't been see since. Her partner of 15 years lied repeatedly about her whereabouts to friends and authorities and has since moved out of state. There was an episode of 48 Hours Mystery called The Facebook Detectives regarding her case. The partner was seen by a friend of Lisa's driving Lisa's car, pulling up to a dumpster behind a convenience store and throwing things from the trunk of the car into the dumpster. Upon examination it was discovered that the items she threw away were Lisa's personal belongings such as her birth certificate, family bibles, family photos, etc. Until confronted with these items the Dallas Police Department had closed the case, even going so far as to tell one of her friends that he was not going to lose his job over this case and told her not to call back. I'm sorry this is so long but there is much more information that I haven't mentioned. There is at least one Facebook page and several news stories regarding her case if you would be interested in checking into it.

    The fact that Shane was speaking lucidly to his brother after the accident does not preclude the possibility of brain injury. My father was in a very serious van wreck with a semi, in which his head was slammed into the steering column. He was cleared by doctors. No one saw the slow bleed causing serious brain damage. It took 6 months to manifest itself, and the effects were permanent. So head injuries can be instantaneous, slow-motion, or somewhere in between. Once the adrenaline wore off and shock set in, anything could’ve happened.

    I live in Texas and on our driver's licenses there is a number to call for help in an accident. I would also think calling 911 or the state highway patrol is a good idea. I assume in some cases people aren't getting authorities involved because they're drinking or have warrants out or unpaid tickets or whatever. Like you said, the trouble with the law if you stay is a lot less than becoming a "missing" statistic. Good video!

    This case is bizzare... If this involved a female instead of a male, I would consider an abduction. But since it's a guy, that seems unlikely. Also, since he talked to his brother right after the accident, it seems less likely that he was really confused and wandered off. Unless it took a little bit for his brain to be affected? I really don't know how that works.

    The whole abandoned car thing is really creepy. The area where this happened is just outside of New Orleans. The road where it happened is narrow, ill-lit, winding in unexpected places, generally has no shoulder, and is subject to heavy industrial traffic, and moderate residential traffic. I have driven past the site many times. It is also subject to frequent rains, and very dense fogs. Crashes are frequent, and sometimes horrific. But it is not isolated. Shane would have been able to walk easily to someone's home or small bars and convenience stores for help. I suspect he fell afoul of someone who took advantage of his state of mind, and possible shock and injuries. It is also possible that he may have been hit by a passing vehicle as he walked along the road. If a hit-and-run occurred, his body may have been disposed of in a panic. I doubt he is still alive. It is right by the Mississippi River, and would not be the first time a body ended up there. He could even have gotten disoriented from a bump on the head, and fallen in the river.
    P.S. I have a suggestion for a future spotlight. Myra Davis, now about 4, disappeared from her home in Camden Mississippi. The Clarion Ledger newspaper has published an excellent timeline of events before and after her disappearance. No evidence has been found of her at all. Police believe she was abducted by an opportunist kidnapper who just happened to be in the right place to take advantage of the confusion ensuing when her mother dropped her at the front yard and told her to go inside, then ran a quick errand. Her dad was inside changing the baby, and didn't realize Myra was even there. So no one even knew she was gone for a little while. It's a very interesting and pretty well documented case.

    If he had been drinking or received an injury causing confusion it is very possible he made his way to the river bank, then slipped or got in to the water not realizing the strength of the river. The water is cold and causes hypothermia very quickly. If someone snatched him most likely his credit cards and phone would have revealed something eventually. Very, very tragic story.
