So having big lips makes you weird? My lips look close to this shape, naturally. I would consider my lips jus as normal as all the other shapes out there.
@@JessicaL085 I wasn't coming for you specifically, I was coming for this stale pool noodle of an individual who clearly has lip issues if they consider plump lips to be filler all the time. Like I said, there are many different sizes and shapes for lips; some take care of theirs and so they look healthy and soft. And some, probably this person; clearly do not and are insecure enough to make the assumption that healthy looking full lips aren't real.
As a self taught artist who is now a professional, i have never drawn lips this way. My art journey begun around the same time i started to walk. I just always tried to draw what i see. And that is what i recommend. We need to be like toddlerd when we try to learn something new. If you follow unsolicited tutorials and spend so much time on a not-so-good looking lip, you will not get much better at drawing and always stay around the same level of art. Or worse, you will end up with same face syndrome: you will develop muscle memory and keep drawing very similar if not the same faces
Most youtube-short art tutorials are pretty bad. I'm not even quite sure how to explain it. I really only use them as entertainment/just looking at what someone else is drawing. You won't improve as an artist if you rely solely on following tutorials step by step, but I think my ability to draw people and faces improved RAPIDLY once I finally sat down and said "You know what, I'm going to learn anatomy." The big mistake, imo, is in doing something like watching an art tutorial for how to draw lips, one for how to draw a nose, an eye, ears, a head, etc, and expecting to be able to draw any face you want from memory or to be able to draw anybody and actually make it look like them. Tutorials are never a substitute for actually drawing and studying a wide variety of references.
I‘m curious in what you talk about. How do you mean ‚draw what you see‘? Isn’t the problem often the transition, the way how to transform what you see onto paper because as shown in this video, many people just draw outer lines first. But it is also is a style issue isn‘t it? And the attributes of the face have to match… I‘m confused😅
@@watchingju5939there’s nothing wrong with drawing the outlines first, I mean lots of artists incorporate that with the process of their art; they will do the line art then the shading/painting etc.
@@meet-me-at-blue-diner ok so there’s this lady on yt and she pronounces her “S” really hardly so she has a lisp. Which makes her kinda sound like the girl in the video @Texas Beeworks
make all the ovals longer and thinner rather than so rounded, make the divot at the bottom less obvious by filing it in with the lighter colour rather than a darker one, make the corners of the mouth less rounded and soft
If you wanna draw different lips, I’d recommend using references of different lip shapes! For example, instead of oval shapes, you could use hearts for the upper ovals :)
You can also just draw a “u” kind of sharp for the top and where the “u” curves you do it again for the middle and then the bottom would just be an oval
This art advice is iffy, like yes it works but you also don’t learn anything. You need to know how the lips curve, how they are 3D, shape and colour and form. I’d say that you should look at references, and draw lips from different angles and also different different styles (big and small lips). This can be good information, just as long as you know what you are doing. I’d personally use this info for colouring lips.
I agree with this comment. It teaches people how to draw something that looks cute, but not any observational skills. This kind of video can be good for beginners and inspiring people to draw in the first place, which I think is good. However, in order to pull off this technique someone would have to have access to the potentially expensive alcohol markers she is using, so I wouldn’t personally recommend it to a beginner and rather teach techniques that can be used successfully with cheaper materials.
You forgot the fleshy part of the upper lip, the middle isn't just a hole. I know it's supposed to be shadows, but that part protudes, so it should be way lighter.
@@skepticalpanda8862 No, mate. They're talking about the lower-to-centre area of the upper lip, from where it meets the bottom lip. The shadows in the drawing make the upper lip appear concave in the centre, which doesn't really happen in real life. On the vast majority of people, that area protrudes over the lower lip. With a direct light source such as what was used in the video, it should appear lighter in that area, and darker on the lower lip. In this instance though, it was the opposite. A very slight anatomy mistake.
I've always started with the shadow under the bottom lip and then the shadow under the top lip. That way the lips can be drawn in any way (long, pouty, fuller, thinner, shorter).
@@akelaanimation8934you’re right in both senses. Being mindful of the light source adds depth to a drawing. @akelaanimation8934 This video helps those to start drawing lips, but if you're in advanced art or you just know lighting and color theory, this isn't a very good video to go to. The random white dots and where the lines were placed are not correct where lighting would realistically be.
