I am interested in learning more about why and how DNA seems to have " weak spots " known as breakpoint clusters; I remembered that restriction enzymes from bacteria can recognize and sometimes cleave palindromic regions from Bacteriophages and that thought led me to imagine that maybe breakpoint clusters could contain palindromic regions and that's true.The obvious implication is that DNAse could be the culprit in many aneuploidy events that precedes cancers. Really interesting! It makes me think if cohesin has a role in complex chromosomal rearrangement events like chromothripsis or even BFB cycles since the proximity of sister chromatids seems to play an important role in those mechanisms
Are those discrete sites where cohesin is initially loaded onto chromosome arms, palindromic? Cruciform and hairpin DNA are known to be perpendicular to the axis of the double helix, do you think that ( or do you know if ) those palindromic regions may be used as points where CTFC proteins can bind?
