As a weapons technician I applaud you on your safety protocols and ability to do things to make doing the caps safer ! Safety is so many times a factor never followed !! Great job and loved the video and fyi did notice a bigger difference from factory to yours and that yours was a cleaner burn less smoke than factory ! So great job guys loved the video
@Enough2BDangerous in ur video u say the opposite but all good we all can see the bigger difference lol if not they can borrow my bi focals 🤣🤣🤣. Anyhow thanks for the great video take care will be looking at others soon
A single drop of hair spray works best as a binder. Just fill your cap, put a drop of hair spray in, and set it aside. No need for tamping, acetone, or nitro glue. It's cheap, strong, water-resistant, self-compacting, hard-curing, and provides reliable ignition. Out of nearly 1,000 caps made this way, I've had less than 20 failures to fire, and I'm only using half the recommended amount of compound.
I like the idea for the 3d printed loading tray. And the self-indexing funnel is absolutely genius, i was thinming of making a funnel like you'd mentioned, by twisting a bit of aluminum can. The 1/3 size scoop also is a terrific idea, given that it takes all the "Kentucky Windage" out of the equation and will make every cap more consistent. I'm currently producing caps, of the number 10 variety. Same procedure, but i lack the Duco cement. Im unsure yet how my mix performs, as i haven't had time to test it out yet. The empty caps fit well on my 1858 Remington by Pietta, so i suppose I'm off to a good start lol
Aluminum cans have a plastic liner on the inside and a paint layer on the other. Lightly sanding one or both sides goes a long way to helping longevity of the caps in a tin. Without sanding to bare aluminum, you'll have a fair number of caps lose their contents in the tin. P.S. I like the tray and funnel. I've been running some ideas around in my mind using a wood board, but I hadn't settled on anything. I like your setup.
I use .005 brass sheeting. While using aluminum from cans I would have several that didn't form properly and I already had sheets of brass because I build model kits. I was just looking on the 22lr site about a week ago and it looks like they have a new prime all compound. By the way that little bag isn't a binder it is powdered glass and is the friction the stuff needs to make it go boom on impact.
@@Enough2BDangerous It still works without but is used to help it go off. It's possible the have a binder mixed in with the glass but it's basically H-48 compound which is potassium perchlorate, antimony sulfide, sulfur and ground glass.
Your cups come out looking like stahlhelms because the mandrel that the cup forms over is too short. It will only get worse as the cutter wears down. Similar designs show the mandrel should terminate only 0.005" below the slot. I bought 2 no. 10 cap makers from .22lrreloader and they were both junk til I fixed them by drilling out the mandrels and replacing them with mandrels of suitable length. The mandrels he installs are made of drill stock so you have to drill up to it then drive it out. Hang on to the old mandrel because it's the perfect diameter to tamp the priming compound down. Also, you can keep the cutter sharp with a weak, battery powered rotary tool and a delicate touch with a grinding bit. Good luck!
Im very interested in the tray, funnel, and 1/3 capacity scoop. I would think that ideally, bundle all three in a single package deal. Please let us know how to buy and where to go once you set up to sell your perc cap tools.
Excellent video, guys. I would definitely be interested in your pondering table, pondering funnel, and the scoop. If it's sold as a set and is reasonably priced..

Very curious if you know of a better kit? What about this kit do you find to be “junk”? I know where I live there is nobody that has caps to buy so this is a great option.
My muzzleloader doesn't take Flint , No.11 percussion caps or 209 primers , its operated by a 9 volt battery , its called the Electra by CVA and is 10 times hotter than a No.11 percussion cap , 5 times hotter than 209 primers oh yeah , its 100 % percent water Proof with a Stainless Steel Bergara Barrel
@@Enough2BDangerous , I believe CVA - Connecticut Valley Arms made the Electra 2007 , 2008 and 2009 , it operates on 9 volts and I run 90 grains of FFF black powder and it's a 50 Cal. , it's highly accurate and only drops 2 inches at 100 yards
Yes on the tools and link to supplies.
Raineer Beer for the win. That was not on my internet bingo card today. Fellow PNW (N. Idaho) person here stuck in FL for now.

I found the caps we made seemed to release more energy as well

Oh man, sorry! If that’s what I said, it’s not what I meant 😂 the home made ones are just a little louder , that’s what I really mean.
@Enough2BDangerous all good editing is a pain in the backside 🤣🤣🤣 but we all got what u meant lol
This is a great idea! Thanks for sharing!
Thanks for watching!

Cool. Thanks for showing the process
I would love to have the tray and funnel. Definitely interested in any components to make the process easier.

For your printed cap filler, not a bad idea or design, if the price is right, you might be able to sell a few in the cap/primer reloading community.
I’m interested!! I can’t find any caps around me. I’m desperate 🤨
It’s so frustrating!

Thanks! It’s so annoying to reach for a cap just to find it empty and loose powder covering the bottom of the tin.

Interesting, I may have it all wrong. Although the video speaks for itself, after a couple hundred caps I have yet to have one fail.

Use the duco mixed with the acetone. Works good.

I have a 3d printer. Will you be making the files available for use?
At the moment, the file won’t be available, but we are working on setting up a store to make the tools available
HOW DO I GET THOSE 3D TOOLS YOU USED

Great video. I would definitely be interested in the cap filler tool you presented .👍
I ordered your loading tray from ETSY and I figure that it should work for #10 caps. Any thoughts?
I imagine it should work fine. The 10s are a little smaller so as long as they’re centered in the hole it should work the same.
3D print a capping tool as well.
Funny you mention it, I initially prototyped a capper, but I didn’t like how it performed. Back to the drawing board I guess.

I’m hoping to have them available this weekend

Armstrong compound, uhmm...
I'm freaking out you aren't wearing even safety glasses. I really hope you don't learn why the hard way 😢
Omg you spent way too much ..tap a cap units 15 bucks.n paper caps where like 8 bucks
Don't sneeze.
I hate spell check
This whole kit is junk 😂 Too much effort for what it is.
It is a lot of work, but when you can’t get caps it’s a valuable resource…….or shoot flintlock. That’s a valid solution too 😂
