I use the pull buoy as a kick board when doing my leg drill. I love my swim snorkel. I am using it to practice front crawl until my form and breathing clearance are consistent.
Aside from my swimsuit, of course, I’d pick my prescription Speedo Vanquisher goggles as my favourite piece of swimming equipment. I don’t have the worst distance vision but these prescription goggles make me feel so much more confident in and around the pool, especially for being able to read the whiteboard in my swim club! (If you get these, look up how to read and convert your glasses prescription or rely on your contact lens prescription for accurate measurements.) Next up is my Arena Powerfins. I don’t use them a ton because I don’t want to rely on them too much but they are soooo much fun when I do! I add them to most kick sets. I never could manage longer fins but these are short and perfect for propulsion and speed. Just size up: the ones I ordered were too small, but I ended up buying a bigger pair off Kijiji from someone who had had the same experience.
Me, too. I swam with contacts in for years but can no longer wear them. Found TYR prescription goggles a couple of years ago. Wonderful! I can actually see if someone else is in my lane.
Fins: I have been using the Finis 'Positive Drive' fins for a couple of years and love them. I saw an almost identical variation called a 'surf rescue fin'. I don't care for the 'frog feet' ones like Fares is using in the video. Main reason is that our feet are not flat like a frog, but 3 dimensional, high near the big toe, and sloping down to the little toe. What the positive drive fins do is they encourage you to go pigeon toed when you use them, instead of pointing straight out behind you. This is essential for getting more push from your flutter and dolphin kicks. You get a couple of extra degrees of 'dorsi flexion' or toe point as I call it. Also, by going pigeon toed, you use the whole side of your foot rather than just the toes for your propulsion. I tried the Aqua Fins, but couldn't get my feet into them, even when buying a size too big for me. I like the idea, but poor execution on design. I think they made them up side down. As for medium length fins, 90+% of the people that use them tend to initiate the front side kick (up in back stroke, and down in freestyle) with the ankle flexed in 'runner's foot' style, so flexed at 30 or so degrees rather than straight toe point. Don't want to do that... Not sure about the green ones here, but they do appear to be right and left footed. I also make sure there are holes in both top and bottom of the fins. Essential for feeling the water flowing between my toes on both front and back side kicks. Essential to learn to use both foot surfaces for propulsion. Oh, the positive drive fins float, the yellow ones that Fares uses sink. Never tried the really long ones that the scuba divers use. For a snorkel, I like one similar to what Fares is using. Easy to clear with minimal breath/exhale. The ones that have the flexible mouth pieces don't clear nearly as well. Those that have purge valves (water can go out, but not in) are worthless unless you put your finger over the top of your snorkel. I have never noticed oxygen debt when using a snorkel. I don't do sprints when using the snorkel. My lung capacity is some where between 'at least double normal' to 'you are totally off the charts'. Mine did come with little caps to restrict flow, but I tossed them. For goggles, I have been using some Michael Phelps ones. I don't like the ones with facets in the lens, I want a smooth curve all the way around. Main reason is the facets give me double or triple vision and that drives me nuts. For the hand paddles, I really like the Finis ones where you just stick your thumb through the hole, and no rubber or neoprene loops that break and rot, and make it difficult to get the second paddle on. Not too big, not too little. They also float.
Oh, I forgot sports watches. First one was a Fit Bit, which I consider junk. Got an Apple watch after that, worlds above the Fit Bit. 2 complaints about it. One is that it doesn't track kicking laps. I do 1500+ yards with every work out, except for open distance days. Two, is that it has no clue about what my overarm side stroke is. I get 'unknown' and 'mixed' what ever those are, and some times it says breast stroke, which I never swim cause my feet just don't go that way, and some times it divides almost equally between freestyle and back stroke, both of which I swim. When doing laps of 1 arm fly drill laps, it counts a length of the pool for the arm the watch is on, but not for the second length when the un watched arm is working.
I think a kickboard unless you are doing tombstone drills for resistance isn't necessary. I use my pull buoy as my kickboard. It is the last thing you really need to be carrying around.
two questions: which is better, the fins with the thin straps on the back or one with a full foot step-in? #2 I see on amazon there are also paddles that are actual gloves with webbing inbetween the fingers. How are those compared to the plastic ones with holes? THANKS!!!
Hey, I'm new to your channel. I'm getting back into swimming after many years. So, I just watched this video and immediately I knew where you were! You're at my favorite resort.... Barcelo Maya, in particular, I think you are at the Tropical or the Colonial. I have stayed at the Palace a bunch of times.
In British English, it is pronounced boy. In American English, it is pronounced boo-ee. I know this because I looked it up to double check my knowledge prior to criticizing.
My mom wont give me better goggles i got a cheap one which is a disaster and doesnt fit. Why does it feel like its gonna break my eye bone because it hurts.

I love swimming with fins!
Be V E R Y careful using hand paddles. If your stroke is less that pristine, your shoulders will pay a price.
The analysis on what paddles do and how bigger means building strength.

Wow. Today was my first day at pool. Looking. Farward to learn from this channel
Welcome to the MySwimPro Community and happy swimming!
Ear plugs are a must for me now. I don't have to continually stop to clear an ear. Plus it is much more hygienic.
Same. Iam getting drowsy if I don't use them. Nearly stopped swimming cause I got so sick if I do more than 1km freestyle. Game changer for me.
A cap is a must have for most pools in ireland

❤
I am not seeing the goggles you prefer
as a beginner learning how to swim, I definitely don't want to see fish, turtles, or other stuff swimming in the water.
