you started in 84… I don't know except through footage what it was like from 84 to late 87. Like I said, I started 8788 season… I'd been solely a football and baseball fan before this… But MJ hooked me.) Among my friends and their dads and grandpas there was no real discussion. By about 89 or 90 I don't remember much if any debate on television either. To be clear, it's not like people were referring to him as "the best of all time" it's just it wasn't brought up and that's how he was largely regarded. Then again, no I watched every televised Bulls game and SportsCenter on the nightly… I may have missed it somewhere. But "He is God in basketball shoes" is high praise coming in early 86 from someone of Larry Bird's stature is high praise. As is, "He's the best player I've ever seen play basketball," coming from a Bobby Knight. We can debate but I sort of don't want to: I never got good at debating the issue because, growing up, there wasn't much opportunity to practice at it. 😊 Cheers
He just was so much different then anybody else… check out MJ 1984 Olympic team that beat Bird and Magic and Isaiah Thomas for 8 straight games as the all stars were supposed to teach the olympians a lesson before going but MJ taught the lesson before going on to win gold… must see!!!
This young jordan 84 - 90'. The greatest player ever on both ends of the court. The GOAT overall, but there's never been a more gifted offensive and defensive threat since.
im not one of those guys that hates on the new NBA. I love it. But just look at the defense in this all star game compared to the current one. There is no contest. This game was super competitive and i wish it still was
Very true and everyone wants to be best buds. Nothing wrong with being friendly but I think the whole atmosphere of the NBA is just softer which provides less competitive play and desire to play at a higher level.
Best all-star game ever ! MJ at his top (physically) playing this game with lots of greatest players of all time or at least who wrote the NBA history : Dominique Wilkins, Larry Bird, Patrick Ewing, Isiah Thomas, Charles Barkley, Magic Johnson, Clyde Drexler, Karl Malone, Akeem Olajuwon, Karim Abdul-Jabar
This version of Michael Jordan IMO is the scariest Athlete I've ever seen. He was that Dominate on both ends of the floor during this period to about '93
Meanwhile, Jordan does a quadruple pump hanging jump shot at 1:27 and the commentators don't even react because they are so used to seeing Jordan do that...
When I first saw this video I thought I had the video playing on a faster speed than normal but no they are just moving really fast and furious in this game and people act like today the players are faster than back then ??? BS
The ways the All Star game was played back then vs. now really tells you a lot about the mindset of yesterdays players vs. todays players. It was all about pride back then. They didn't care about anything else other than beating each other and proving who was the best. Now it's all hugs and smiles. The guys back then may not have been as skilled as todays players but they were tough and they wanted it bad.
4:55 that tip on the ball to force the turn over is unreal. Ive never seen something like that in all my years of watching basketball. That play gets me eveytime.
This Michael Jordan would destroy todays NBA. He would be virtually unstoppable if you couldn't put hands on him. Michael Jordan pretty much had no weakness to his game except for maybe 3 pointers which he never practiced and rarely took. I'm pretty sure if he was practicing 3 pointers as much as the players today do, Michael Jordan would have zero weaknesses to his game.
Anyone here after the last dance documentary?? Also did anyone catch the isiah thomas handshake at 22 seconds? Alot of co controversy over isiah snubbing jordan after a playoff game.
i missed this kind of game...where superstar of every team played like a star...unlike todays allstar no competition at all one reason im not watching it anymore...
It’s interesting to think about how at minute 2:53 when he makes the steal from Malone and then finishes on the other end is exactly how he won his last championship with the Bulls 🤔
I’m 18 years old and watch Jordan highlights weekly. This dude is the goat. Lebron is great but I’ll put him at 3 right now behind Jordan and Kareem. If lebron gets 3 more rings and 1 more mvp and at least 1 dpoy I’ll put him above Jordan. Lebrons great tho don’t get me wrong I might hate on him sometimes but logically he’s not the goat rn
$5,000 from Miller to the College scholarship fund. What a pittance for a multimillion dollar company. Yes, even accounting for inflation: a pittance. Reminds me when McDonalds would donate $50 to charity for every dunk in a televised game. Woohoo... generous.
This was probably when he was at the absolute peak of his physical abilities then.
+zyxwut321 maybe the 90 season, he bulk up in muscle mass after his loses wit the bad boys
Yeah. Most athletic definitely, but not the most strong.
He could jump and stay in the air while the other guys landed
I'd say '91.
@@AZNboi10921 Stronger in the mid to late 90s.
This was the exact game where the national media finally gave MJ the unofficial "Best Player In The World" title in public, in front of Magic & Bird.
HoustonIsImmortal more like in 1992
But it's true tho.
@@SmoovyNovaFan NO. It was WAY before 1992. I started watching 87-88 season and that's how he was referred to and regarded by most. No debate.
@@AnHebrewChild i started in '84, the goat discussion always revolved around Russell, Wilt, Magic etc.

There are great players and then at the top of the mountain is Michael Jordan, and the distance between him and second place is considerable
I could not agree more. There's Mt Rushmore: I don't put Jordan on that.
Dude's got his own mountain.
And Lebron is not second.
back when the all-star game was actually competitive.
Facts
This is the greatest all star game i've ever seen
Audric ....1987 ASG. Gotta oull that on up.
The 2003 all star game is really good too and has Jordan hit a clutch jumper in it
Insane how many superstars in one game ! MJ, BIRD, M.MALONE, MAGIC, KAREEM, HAKEEM,...
the thing I love most is that it was defense being played and they still put on a show
They all called Mike the best player in the game before he won a Championship.
I mean averaging 33+ points it's deserving
I mean we’re they lying?
He just was so much different then anybody else… check out MJ 1984 Olympic team that beat Bird and Magic and Isaiah Thomas for 8 straight games as the all stars were supposed to teach the olympians a lesson before going but MJ taught the lesson before going on to win gold… must see!!!

I miss this time in life and these magical basketballs days and memories...Please can we find away to turn back 🙏🏀🌠🌠🌠
Best throwback NBA All-Star Uniforms of all time imo. East/West 1988 💯🔥 MJ ASG MVP GOAT 4 EVER! 👏🏼
5:35 nice to see Mr and Mrs Jordan out there. Rip Mr Jordan
This young jordan 84 - 90'. The greatest player ever on both ends of the court. The GOAT overall, but there's never been a more gifted offensive and defensive threat since.
84-91 in 1991 he had NO less speed or hops. And his fluidity was never better.
Wilt chamberlain was a more dominant defensively
Damn Jordan was fast!!!
im not one of those guys that hates on the new NBA. I love it. But just look at the defense in this all star game compared to the current one. There is no contest. This game was super competitive and i wish it still was
right players back then knew how to put on a show while playing defense and being competitive something today's playes lack the knowledge of how to do
Very true and everyone wants to be best buds. Nothing wrong with being friendly but I think the whole atmosphere of the NBA is just softer which provides less competitive play and desire to play at a higher level.
And the points somehow still piled up despite the competitiveness
@@michaelmullins7933 Now they just want to avoid injury and consider this game more like an exhibition rather than a regular match they must win...
Yeah, I don't watch them anymore.
40 pts in an allstar game seems surreal today but then it was a real game
What a great game..... back when the ASG made sense with competitiveness & great sportsmanship. Incredible 🙌🙌🙌
Best All Star game ever.
My all time favorite All Star Game ever
The goat 🐐
Wow, the hoop used to make such a loud noise on makes and misses. Hahahaha
Jordan's 1988: MVP, defensive player of the year, scoring champion, steals leader, all-star MVP, slam-dunk contest champion.
This is more like a playoff game than an allstar game!

That Magic Johnson casual half court hook pass at the end!
OMG that basketball rack sounds beautiful real NBA
Harder defense in all star game than current playoffs
That's SOME proper, decent defense in the Allstar game.... 2016 ASG sigh...
Jeremy Lee Points still piled up here, but this had a different feel
Isiah and Mj hated each other but played so well together 😭😭
Share. Happy birthday, the GOAT.
