  • Work continues on our Chevy small-block V8 engine. Davin preps the block and heads by taping off everything he doesn't want Chevy Orange. Then it's off to Traverse Body & Paint where the magic happens. As a bonus to this video, Davin provides some iPhone footage of the supercharged 400cc small-block Chevy engine he built for his nostalgia front-engine dragster, and walks us through his first trip to the dyne with it, complete with some eye-popping horsepower numbers!

Hey Davin, really appreciate all these videos you've been doing - I've watched them all and thoroughly enjoyed them all!
What I appreciate most is your "get out and get your work done", ive been working on a frame replacement for my 1984 Nissan 720 for the past 11 months and I'm so happy that I've now completed it, it's insured and back on the road. Still a few minor things to do, but your inspiration has helped me get through it!
Next up is working on my 1990 Nissan 240sx and my dad's old 82 Honda 450.
Off to the shop to get my work done though!

That's a very nice engine and boy oh boy did that thing make some nice horsepower.
Looking fwd to seeing this go into the drag car and then watch you hang-on down the 1/4mile.
Oh yeah - that's also a very nice orange colour.

Glyptal is great I have used it for years never a problem I used to use it in a restoration shop where I worked, also if it is good enough for racing engines it sure as hell is good enough for me.

  • @autka_me

Wonderful work as always. Just my 5 cents: all you folks painting the engine (or whatever else) for wax and grease remover check if it's also removing silicones. They are in various different products, are quite heat resistant and can make a bad day if not removed before painting.

I got looked at like I had two heads when I posted pictures of my latest engine build where I did Glyptal on the inside... Mind you I did a previous engine in 2015 the same way and never had any issues so it wasn't my first. Got all the comments ranging from, "why waste time painting the inside" to, "that paint is going to flake and clog your oil pickup". LOL 👍

After washing your block with detergent or chemistry do you ever use a torch on the block to pull the oils out and combust them prior to painting the casting? I say someone doing it and the casting did flash off and change color to a more pure iron casting color. Smoke and mirror process, I don’t know, you are the expert!
