He is reading his initial statement. At the speed of light. Faster reading = more points = higher score. This isn't debate, it's a reading contest. Only the judges and the other debaters are able to follow.
Ah, this video brings me back to highschool...and the terrible terrible debates we had to do >.< One of the most stressful things I felt I had to do in highschool.
...It's religious headwear, and this was also a mock debate used to post on the HSPDP website to show newcomers the process of HSPDP debate. It's not a formal debate by any means.
The second speaker really irritated me; she refused to answer questions too often, was very rude, and avoided their points on purpose. I truly hope the judge voted for the anti-death penalty team, just based on her actions and behavior alone.
poorly argued on the part of the supporters of the death penalty, however, there are I think 2 cases of innocent death penalty cases, which should have been better researched by the opposition. furthermore, the economic cost of putting a person to death in the u.s. exceeds 300 million dollars, which wouldve been a good rebuttal to the "overcrowding of prisons". the topic of racism and bias was a distraction from the issue, and more of an opinion about the judicial system. very good job on both parts, but I think in a few years this argument would be better addressed by these very impressive kids.
these guys speak super slowly compared to champion high school debaters, they wheeze between sentences and whenever they talk, they do it faster than pro rappers.
In prison, criminals are fed, they get T.V. and outside time. What justice is that? If a criminal is responsible for taking a life, they do not deserve to live theirs. Some people think it is showing nothing for the value of human life, but it is of the highest price. A murderer has taken the highest value from someone, something they can not get back, and if he gets to eat, sleep, drink and live their own life, maybe even have a chance to get out of prison, that is not justice.
woah, saanen vaeltaa, did you just annalize what he was wearing head to toe? Who the heck cares? Even if it is religious head ware, it doesn't matter. This is high school, not a professional debate. (it's kinda wierd that you noticed what kind of shoes he was wearing.) (they the shoes aren't banned in school are they? Nor are the shorts) get a life.
To the first speaker on the proponent side: You speak way too fast and anxiously. It is difficult to understand and simultaneously process your points when you talk at such a speed. Your physical appearance also takes away from your presentation. I don't know what you're doing with your hair or headwear but it is completely inappropriate for a serious discussion, as are the long shorts and skateboarding sneakers.
saanen vaeltaa I understand the shorts but the US is about freedom including freedom of religion. The Headwear is religious. If I were him I wouldn't have broken the laws of my religion for a debate.

Drunk drivers are unaware of their actions, does this mean they are innocent?
Yes
define drunk driver?????????
Joseph Cupido A person intoxicated while driving, normally in an accident. A.K.A DUI (Driving Under the Influence)
so .01 ??????????????????? technically speaking that's still breaking the law. I am asking YOU what you think is drunk driving.???????
Joseph Cupido I meant intoxicated past the point of not being able to drive properly, I believe the legal level is 0.8.
