Yes, you can make i-cords in different ways. What is nice is when people are willing to make videos to teach me and I can learn the way I like best - or do all the different ways whenever I choose!
Thank you! I just practiced your way and it's fun.
Luv it! Been crocheting for 55 years and this is the first time I have seen this. Thank you.
Me too seen it first tym
Wow thank you so much for teaching, slowly and very clear instructions. I had to go through a few other videos and it was complicated. But your instructions are perfect. I just watched you the first time and got it and made absolutely stunning bag handles. Thank you so much :) xx
I had no idea that you could crochet an I-cord. I have been knitting cords for years and this seems so much easier. Thanks for a easy to follow video. Diane
GREAT TUTORIAL!! Thanks for sharing. You showed all the steps really well. Your camera was just right.
😊💚😊💚
I would have liked to have seen how you finished it off.
When your done yarn over and pull through all 3 loops then chain one and knot off.
Thanks so much for this! I don't crochet and I knit just a little, but I found this way to crochet I-Cord to be far easier than knitting it! I've just made 10.5 yards of jumbo i-cord (made using "Country Loom" yarn and a 6.5 mm hook) in a couple of hours. For those who mention "why not use the little crank machine", I would point out that you can only use up to size 3 yarn on those and so can only make relatively thin i-cords. The I-cord I just made using this technique used size 6 jumbo yarn and the resulting i-cord is about an inch in diameter! I think I'm going to make a bunch of this size and use about 60 yards to make a big, arm knit pouf! The arm knitting part will only take 30 mins or so, so the time investment will be in making the i-cord, but it's well worth the time invested... :)
Thank you!! Come to my channel, please !! I value your opinion about my manual work !! My children's shoes.
As a crochet or of over 45 years I thought I knew it all. This video has been invaluable to me. right up there with the foundation single crochet chains and the gapless turning chain.
Thank you so much!!
thank u so much.
I had never heard of i cords and just want to thank you for sharing - GREAT!
This is much easier if you have a cable needle handy, or a safety pin, so you don't accidentally drop the stitches you're holding.
I didn't know that i-cord could be done by crochet. Thank you for showing me!
I haven't heard from the author who showed how to crochet an i-cord correctly. I tried doing that last night but it came out a little flat, literally. I need a bit of help. Thanks! Happy Holidays!

Thank you!
Ms Gilbank, I'm new to crocheting and your videos have been a great help whenever I get stuck. Thank you!
Great, thanks. I want to crochet a brain, so this is perfect.
Did you?
Omg thank you. I was trying to make an I cord with a spool knitter and I quickly decided that spool knitters are the worst. This is much faster and makes a much better product, so I'm back on track with a project I was thinking of abandoning lol
I used a small cable needle for the first two loop as I had trouble just holding them tight with my finger but this is ingenious! Thank you!
Wouldn't it just be easier to use a double ended crochet hook? And then you just slide the loops to the opposite end of the hook and keep going in the same "row?"
As a long time hooker, I have come to hate having to make ribbing for my projects. Instead, if making a sweater, I crochet an I cord longer than needed & build the panels off of that. I have even created I cord with 15 stitches instead of 3, and build the panel from the icord, but catching both edges, which gave me a tube around the bottom of the sweater to insert a drawstring. It's quite versatile.
+Nacho Mamma Eureka - why had I never thought of that?! great idea - thank you for sharing!
did you just call yourself a hooker

Can you share photos? tutorial?
That's a term for crocheters is Hooker. So yes, if you crochet you are a hooker. So I can say I am a proud hooker. XD
Too cool!!! Thank you for sharing this video!! It's like a loom knit on crochet hook!!!!! It helped me a lot!!! Thank you very much fir teaching!!!
EXCELLENT!!! thanks so much for sharing and being very clear….how simple this is.
Es cierto. Muy claro.
thank you for sharing this ! Its a very handy and well made video, Happy Crochet !
Excellent. I hv been looking for just this type of cord to make for my little crochet phone pouched. Thks heaps.
You have the best voice for tutorials. This was great all the way around, plus very relaxing to listen to.
Thank you sooooo much!!! I've watched lots of how to make i-cord videos, but none of them was as clear as this one.I really liked it!!
I really do appreciate this. God bless
😘😘
Thanks. You make it look easy. Like to try. ❤
and it works well with 2 st. or 4 st. as well!!!! faux tubing!!!
Saying chain one threw me off too much. Sorry but I cant follow this tutorial. It's too confusing!
No need to apologise - people learn in different ways! You could think of it as 'yarn over and draw up a loop' if you're more familiar with that terminology than 'chain one' :)
thanks so much for sharing this technique. I love to use icord, but HATE knitting it. This has to be a lot faster. Thanks again.
He aprendido algo nuevo, me gusta. Gracias.
Oh wow, thank you so much for uploading this! :) It seems very useful indeed!!
Great succinct video on the technique. Thank you. 🙂
Thank you very much hunni was wanting to learn to make this a long time
Great

Thanks for sharing. GREAT tutorial.
😊💚😊💚
Thank you for sharing! I'll use this technique for making skinny arms & legs for amigurumi projects! Very clear explanation & good close ups.
Thankyou for this I love it
Thank you for this video. I like this idea.
Can you do this with more than three stitches?
Amazing beautiful ! congratulations and best wishes !
thank you for sharing this ! Its a very handy and well made video, Love Crochet !
Love it. can i make this rope tutorial with bahasa video, please?
I have watched other videos and just gave up idk why or how but these seemed easy actually lol maybe your video is just that good and I am in more of learning mood today 😂😂 thank you
Good.. love from Sikkim India 🇮🇳

I was wondering since time ago about this interesting type of cord. Actually, it was easy, thanks to your simple directions!

(Note: At the time I write this, I think it only works on desktop, not mobile - hopefully RUclips will add the same functionality to RUclips on mobile devices at some point soon.)
Na not helpful as stated chain one yet still a chain on , would be more helpful ifstated how many left on each time .
Ain't getting this !
From Uruguay, thank you very much!! I can use it to make a Khan bride from Muay Thai!!
Yours looks to be an enclosed tube but mine is just "curled" and can be flattened to look more like a strap. Is this right?
I rather do this with two double pin knitting needles. I don't have to care for any loose loops this way as I just slide the loops at the other side of the needle at the end of every round.
...Me encantó!!!Saludos !!!...Marisabel
I agree win Irmar - this is so fiddly. I do both crochet and knit - and this technique seems so fiddly, I would just do I cord. Even for a non-knitter or newbie knitter, I think knitting an I-cord would be quicker than this fiddly crochet method - sorry
Great tutorial! THANKS! Have you done it with more than just the three loops? 4? 5?
Yay at last! An English crochet Lady. Good one June...
Excellent

I'm sorry about that - I can't control where RUclips positions the captions! You can turn the closed captions off to watch the video without the text blocking your view, then turn them back on and re-watch any bits you didn't understand.
Wow! June, this is an awesome tutorial. I've been crocheting for over 50 years and never figured this one out. Next time I make a little bag that needs a draw string, I'm using this. :-) May I share this video?
OH! That link is perfect. I'd like to share it on my Blog and in my FaceBook Group. I'm also going to be teaching in a little while (I am 62, it's about time, lol), and there's one pattern that I really want to include this in. THANK YOU!

Such an excellent tutorial! Thank you for taking your time with it.
It doesn’t “look like a crochet chain” The crochet chain LOOKS LIKE A KNIT STITCH! Which is why knitters try their hand at crochet because it can be made to resemble knitting. No one wants to crochet because it looks like crochet.
This video is aimed at crocheters, who may well have a different opinion from you - and that's okay! I suspect any knitter who "tries their hand at crochet because it can be made to resemble knitting" will be sorely disappointed - knitting does that job much better! I'd say that the real strength of crochet is in what it can do *differently* from knitting, and I love both crafts for different purposes.
Yes understand mom.... I need this tutorial and I do like to try, thank you so much 🌹🌹🌹
So I started using a mini Allen wrench to hold the extra two loops and I realized that I am knitting >.
You're on the path to greatness- Now if you crochet with power tools, the internet might give you a cookie!
Mmmm I like cookies! Hold on let me pull out my table saw and hook up my lathe.
Looks a bit like the spool knitting. this is actually simpler, IMO. I've actually used the spool knitter to make ties for hats, bonnets, etc....this will be much easier.
Thank you so much for sharing your talent.
This was literally my 10 or 12 time crocheting and got it the first time (sorta. Little loose). Love straight forward, slow, and easy to follow instructions.
I think it will be faster and easier to use 2 crochet hooks. Slide the 3 st to end of crochet hook 1 and usse hook 2 to make the next 3 loops. What do you think? no fear of dropping a loop
Thanks for sharing :)!
I plan to use your cord pattern for the hello kitty purse that im planning to make for my daughter, thanks a lot.
Or you could just take up a Lucet... of course, you then get a square braid.
Amazing. I love it.thanks for sharing your video. So simple yet it looks complicated. I can't wait to make it.
What if i want to make it more thicker...ill just add the foundation chain...example i want to used it for my bag...maybe i will chain 8 ..does it goes the same pattern..???
You can make a wider i-cord tube by starting with more chains and dropping all but one loops off the hook, but I’d recommend you don’t go too wide, as it’s easier to accidentally pull out one of the dropped loops when you have more of them in play. I’d recommend you stick with a 3-ch or 4-ch crocheted i-cord. For anything wider than that, make a sc spiral (or learn to knit it on double pointed needles).
clever! I was thinking of using this method as a stem for the top of a beret, join stitches 3 and 1 and increase from there
Thanks. Very clear instructions. I think once I saw a video on making a cupcake, and you needed an cord, but I didn't want to buy a little machine just for that. Did you make up this stitch yourself? Very clever.
I use this for my starter chain on more difficult projects, like trying to work with small fluffy yarn. It's hard to see exactly where to put the hook with a regular starter chain. This makes is super easy and gives it a nice edge even with shells.
I’m sorry, but your instruction is not correct. I couldn’t figure out why I was having trouble while listening and trying to do what you say. You are not doing a chain one as you put the stitches back on the hook. You are merely drawing a loop up. The only time you are correctly saying to chain one is when you have all three on the hook and are dropping the two off and then do a chain one.
No need to apologise - this whole technique is unconventional, as it's basically knitting an icord, but with a crochet hook! You'll be keeping previously worked stitches on your hook while you work other stitches. 'Yarn over and draw up a loop through the loop already on your hook' is the definition of a chain one - you just need to ignore the other stitch(es) you already worked as you proceed along each row :)
OH my GOODNESS! Thank you for this video! You make it easy to learn new things and I love that!
@planetjune Hi thanks for this video its great i love it so much but i have a question, how to finish that i-cord?? how to close it?? a don´t know how to do that plss could you explaind to me, thanks again :)
that's pretty cool. what is an Icord? Or I guess I should ask: what can/do you use them for? Great video!💙🐝💙
Thanks! There are lots of potential uses for i-cord, for example: as trim, to make thin parts of amigurumi (tails, legs, etc), to make thin cord handles for bags, as a drawstring, as curtain tie-backs… Anything you want :)
Thank you for your video....I'm just wondering why does my I-cord look open on 1 side. yours looks all closed up all the way around. Thank you
You may need to make a few more rows before you see it taking shape - it looks flat at first, but if you keep going, you'll see the tubular shape emerge!
I Thank you very mush for this marvelous points of cord dear.
I didn't even know you could crochet an i-cord. I have only knit them and I'm 73. Thank you, great tutorial ♥
Much quicker than knitting an I-cord as one has to keep on switching the needle to the other hand. Thank you for sharing!
Would this be possible with paracord? Looking for a different lanyard to all the rest. Thanks

Ok! Sorry....I got it! I kept trying and turns out the further I got and as I stretched ...it formed! Thank you! Very creative yet simple enough for even me! :-)
This is the easiest way to make an icord that I've seen yet!!!! Thank you so very much!!!
I agree. I have seen other people do it. But she is the best. Very simple and straightforward!! :)
