I'm really digging Pareidolia. The sound is so clean and sharp. I always get excited when you put these lists out I like the variety of genres in the list
Jasmine myra, Horizons. Modern British jazz recorded in triple A. The separation and depth of the recording is sublime. Any track off of Ryuichi Sakamoto 12. The atmosphere is astounding
I really enjoy these types of videos as they help me personally explore music I would otherwise not find myself. Some of the tracks I thought were amazing for the purpose of audiophile demonstrations and audition would be your last pick Pareidolia which was incredibly immersive, lush, and "wet" with sounds. I felt like I was underwater while being thrown around by bass dolphins all the while on some kind of mushroom trip - wow! I also really really love the first two recommendations. Incredible soulful women's voices are special - regardless of audio system. Thanks so much for your fun content and helping us discover.
As a Northern Norwegian that lives 30 minutes away from Kari Bremnes childhood home that one surprised me seeing in this list. That exact album is one of my favourites to relax to, try Rim sin stemme on the same album if you haven't. I also love Sophie Zelmani - All about you for the same purposes.
Yes, Kari Bremnes is a very good singer and when she sings songs in Norwegian, she can use her voice with virtuosity because it is her native language. Another story is the quality of the Norwegian musicians and sound engineers from the KKV label. The best of her albums are Svarta Bjoern and Losrivelse.
Thanks for the list! I love to test systems with Moon River by Jacintha from the Autumn Leaves album. It starts acapella and the mic choice is fabulous. You can hear every breath and her lips touch! Then a wonderful piano solo, the piano and voice together.
Sorry my comment is slightly off this topic. How gratifying is it to understand that many ‘vintage’ albums were recorded and produced so well and even stand up to even the latest technology in recording studios today. I will admit that I’m quite an analogue junky, I have a few vintage [and a modern] turntables and also own a handful of open reel tape decks which I absolutely adore. I will also add that I own and enjoy my SACD player just so you know I’m not one of those audiophile snobs who demand analogue is superior. I do however enjoy the warmth that analogue recordings bring to the listening experience. As for this video, I’m really excited now to research and listen to these artists and songs mentioned here and perhaps I’ll be able to add some new artists to my music library. As much as I like to think I’m reasonably well informed about music, it never ceases to amaze me that there are always new artists for me to learn about. I’m not religious but if I was I’d truly believe music was a god given pleasure.
This is goodbye - Imminence Live in St:Nikolai church. The scale of the room really comes alive in the recording. All 4 songs on the album are really nicely recorded.
The list is bang on! I’m glad i found this channel. Awesome music list I can’t believe how good my system sounds. My focal utopias are getting a fine playlist
John Lee Hooker ‘It Serves you Right to Suffer Album’ especially the track Sugar Mama This album was recorded in the early 1960’s the original vinyl is very sort after and collectable. The sound is awesome for it’s age
Thx for this list. Got me to really appreciate my hi-fi! Especially "Pareidolia" and "Against the wind". I love listening to Lamb "Armageddon Waits" on the hi-fi - wonderful production and bass line.
Nice play list. We audiophiles seem to do a great job of finding well produced great music but its impossible for an individual to find everything so thanks for these recommendations. I particularly liked ; Kari Bremnes who I am familiar with, markusphillipe is cool, whitebear was intriguing , and blues company. I also loved bjorn berge recommended in the comments. Here is just a few tracks that might not be so well known: liberty by Annette Askvik, Claire Cadillac by Malia, just a little lovin by Shelby Lynne, drum and bass intro by on “Nils Lofgrens live”, understand by joss stone, La Fong by D-Sens, miss teardrop by felix leband. Make us stronger by Ghost Rider. Caravel by Sohn, chameleon by trentemoller. Bossa nova billie eilish , life machine by lorna hunt. sunrise by larry carlton. change by big thief, devils punch bowl by Dominic miller
Thank you Gabster for introducing me to music I would otherwise have been unlikely to have ever heard. I have bought a number of CD's from the lists that you have prepared. I am not sure if Keb' Mo' is considered to be less well known, or if the music is well recorded for some critics here, but his album 'Good to be...' has some good base tracks and in response to those who are moaning here about obscure music, then perhaps the track 'Lean on me' which I enjoy in particular. Learning about this artist lead me to discover "Playing for Change" and some great videos here on RUclips.
Thanks Gaby! Here are some favourites of mine: All armed - Nils Frahm - Vertu úlfur - Titillag, Emilíana Torrini Paper Trails - Darkside The last chuck (feat. Gitkin) - Assaf Spector Takashi Timing - Yin Yin Pon Di Plaza - Yussef Dayes, Chronixx Argonaut - Leifur James Serpent Strut (40 Thieves Mix Parts 1 & 2) (feat. David Harks) - Jack Cutter Return to centaurus - Mildlife Merry Xmas!
Two entire albums, not just songs: Love Warriors - Tuck and Patti. Tuck's guitar and Pati's voice and nothing else fill the soundstage. On a Clear Day is especially superb. Alone and Acoustic - Buddy Guy and Jounior Wells. These kings of Chicago Blues go back to their roots with nothing additional to take away from their voices, acoustic guitar and harmonica. Like sitting on a porch listening to two masters of their craft.
Good songs in the list. A recent one, not unknown, is Some Kind Of Beautiful by James Blunt. The way the instruments add up, while maintaining clarity, is superb.
Thank you! Always much appreciated to get new tracks to listen to, and as interesting to listen to your short words about why you think they are good. Will listen through and give some comments when possible 👍🏻
Joe Henry has an album from 1990 called Shuffletown. It was produced by T-bone Burnett . The entire album is incredibley recorded. It's mostly acoustic instruments. Any title is great for testing your system, especially when played in All Channel Stereo. The title song Shuffletown is a good example. It has a bit of Hotel California vibe to it. Henry's voice is crystal clear.
Great songs! I actually have a tidal playlist called Gabby😊. I would like to mention that for some reason I've had to resubscribe to your channel a few times this month. I'm not sure what is happening.
At this moment, I'm playing Jaz Colemans, The Raven King, played by the St Petersburg Philharmonic. It's a tribute to Paul Raven, who passed away a few years ago. He played Bass with JC in Killing Joke. Beautifully done.
Merry Christmas Happy holidays and congratulations for your 20k!!! If i am gonna start about songs and albums its obvious that we gonna deal with the basics! The famous "audiophile" titles like beat hotel from alan taylor , Chris rea , Chris jones , keith dont go and ect!!!! But are also songs that came from all over europe that they are very good! From my country (Greece) you can have Haris Alexiou song title america that is one of my far favourites. From poland one great actor is called anna maria jopek almost all her songlist is more than great but songs like "male dzieci po to sa" its unbeliveable! On other hand wherever boris blank get his hand on its aan acoustic masterpiece! The song electrified is one of them! (I am not gonna say anything about malias cd with him its already spotted by you!!!!) My beloved for vocals is Natasha marsh "ai giocci addio" its very rare to find it but worth the investment! Last comes an italian voice that is over supreme with songs like danza and vanita and her name is giorgia ! Specially vanita is gonna shake the room with very nice bass (i love it). Thats all from here hope any of these to be on your acceptation as good songs! P s I have one last name to get songs that he have alot of good recordings and a very very good voice and its an armenian guy that lives in russia named cevak khanagian songs like zima are very atmosferic and well produced! See also his Eurovision song quami that is good . Sooo ... Hope you Enjoy !!!!!
Couple more that its on my list every time that a new speaker (i am builder) gets for acoustic test: frozen world Emilie Simon , emma shapplin nella aria bruna , timbaland kill yourself. All of these are in more than 100 times listen in hiend equipment that calibrated through my ears and my notes to have a level of quality acoustical understanding!
never had a hifi before. recently got one. MAS QUE NADA - Sergio Mendes is an amazing track along these "well recorded" lines. Amazing pure vocal + super soundstate percussion. Also "Baila Nova" is a cool acoustic guitars + great latin jazz vocalist.
Hi Gabby. Happy Holidays! Always enjoy your '10 to try'. I have a bunch of Kalya Scintilla, really good stuff. I recently came across Matt Lange. On the 'Dichotomy' album, give 'Shimmer' a try. Sit right between those gorgeous speakers of yours. It will sweep you up and take you for a ride! Happy listening!
I Play the Blues for You - Baba Blues All or Nothing at All - Diana Krall Thanks to You - Boz Scaggs Helios - Michael Manning Don’t Leave Me Here - Taj Mahal Chocolate Chip Trip -Tool Thanks for the great songs to show off my system. Gary from Wisconsin, USA
OK, you got yourself a new subscriber! Very good list, all sound amazing and I definitely added all of these to my Hifi Playlist. It's always great to find some new artists.
Well Gab, I think of musical tastes like infinite venn diagrams. We will all find crossovers, whatever our tastes. I enjoyed most of the songs on your list, several of which I had never heard before. This “musical discovery” is my favourite form of listening so I thank you for that. However, the one that really stood out for me on my first listen was “Home” by Dominique Fils-Aime. I will definitely be exploring her back catalogue, especially when I finish my current speaker build. Hope you have a great New Year. Keep up the great work. Julian
"These Words" by Arvo Pärt from his Tractus album is a sad but beautiful contemporary orchestral piece that will test the dynamic range of any system with its kettle drum, xylophone and triangle moments. "Home Is" by the gifted Jacob Collier from Djesse Vol. 1 is a short choral piece with strong sound staging (and wait for the male chorus to come in around the 3 min mark). "Hold On" by The Gas House Gang from The Gas House Gang's Fifth is barbershop quartet at its best.
Great shares 'A'! These are the type of tracks I never know about since they don't fall into any of genre I currently possess in any listening music file on my app but I'm always happy to find n add to my HiFi playlist to play for that 'wow' factor!
Thanks for these song tips. One of my favorites is albums with great sound quality is Macy Gray's: Stripped. A binaural recording done in a church with absolutely no DSP done to it. Sounds great on speakers and is sublime with headphones.
This has been a lot of fun today. I created a playlist of these songs plus a previous episode. So much fun to get out of my norm. The Robert Cray tune is amazing. I’m going to dig around for a track that I think is worth to nominate!
Just found your channel. If you like Bettye Lavette, I have 2 records of hers you should check out. ROGV-057 recorded 1972 at Muscle Shoals and ANTI 86873-1 from 2007. I checked the album you showed which is around 50 years later so her voice has declined. I may do a video next week covering the early two.
A track i like to use to test systems with is - Strip Me by Natasha Bedingfield. Most systems will struggle to reproduce it with balance. If the tonal balance is off this track with find it. Some of the synths on it will also reveal a harsh or ragged top end.
When shopping for a home theater system in a high end store in Denver the rep played The Girl from Ipanema throgh wall mounted B&W expensive speakers. Not the live version. I suppose this one is pretty well known. The recording quality blew me away. It is a version with Stan Getz and Joao Gilberto. I do not what the source was oh my gosh. Those speakers were a little out of my price range. Ended up with Golden Ear lower end floor speakers with Golden Ear center and Golden Ear smaller sub. I love my system. Maybe not considered hifi system? I listened to a few of these. I just streamed it through RUclips and even though my NED receiver said Dolby digital plus, it was playing in stereo through my right and left fronts. It sounded pretty darn good and I could hear that super clean stereo recording and great sound stage.I had to get up and listen to my Center speaker to verify that it was only coming from the left and right but I swear it sounded like it was coming out of the center speaker. Thanks for the interesting video. Zulu Voodoo was really cool!
Good songs with beautiful presentations, but Pareidolia.....I didn't think it was possible to sing something like that, I listen to it continuously! Thank you!
Thanks for the list. Enjoyed it a lot. My favorite which impressed me most was Bettye LaVette‘s „one more song“. So go on please with more songs 👍😄 cheers Rainer’s
I totally am in agreement with you regarding "Home". I recently purchased this album and it is a treat. Also, Against the Wind is a nice find and I had never heard this before. TY.
Thanks for the recommendations. A lot of new music to explore here. One song I will recommend is Liberty by Anette Askvik (Liberty album). Great song and sound quality.
Something a bit different, but I love Tron Legacy by Daft Punk on a good system. So much going on from far back, left and right to right into your face. All at the same time.
Movie sound tracks can be a source of well recorded audio. Akira sound track, "battle against clown" has extreme dynamic range, watch the volume levels as it can easily clip. "Doll's polyphony" Is an exercise in imaging and staging. If your system gets it right, the "de dums" pop all over the stage in height, depth and position. Other sound tracks are crouching tiger hidden dragon and last of the Mohicans.
I get it.. I suppose Prison Daddy is about that really clear high frequency sound, but it might be one of the best deep bass tests I've heard. I wonder how many systems can resolve that vs. the treble.
Thanks for these suggestions. I enjoyed listening to all of them. Many of them were sonically interesting in regard to sound stage and resolution, etc. That part was enjoyable. But a lot of these same songs didn't do much for me musically. In other words, it was fun to exercise my system but not the type of stuff I'd listen to for the music itself. That's not a complaint or a knock on your choices. We all have different likes and preferences. I did like the Robert Cray song. I've known of him for decades but have never really explored his music. I need to do that. I guess the big exception for me was The Blues Company. I'm a sucker for the blues and the production quality of that song was great. Can't wait to dig into their stuff. Thanks and keep the recommendations coming.
Interesting how sometimes the song you're listening to can make you play it again just because it brings out the value of your sound system, no matter the artist or genre. Love the Saxnbass album and the Dominique Fils-Aime song as well. Wonder if you ever played this James Bond song called The Rhythm Divine by Swiss band Yello and Shirley Bassey. On Spotify this song appears several times, use the one from the album Essential for the best sound quality. I've actually run into other hi-end sound enthousiasts playing Yello material. Hope you enjoy it.
Many thanks to you Gabby. Enjoy your audiophile playlists. 21 by Sam Vloemans , album Bord du Nord. Gaia by James Taylor, album Hourglass Both are great sounding albums!
Thank you Gab for this impressive list and thank you to the community for many more starting points to discover great music. On one of these trips I found - Pablo's song by Gare du Nord from the album Rendez Vous 8:02 - Mad World by Night Bird from the album Thank You And a little off topic the "Waldstein" Sonata No. 21 in C major, op. 53, played by Igor Levit with so much energy and enthusiasm. For me, it's just pure joy.
Suzanne Vega, track “Calypso” from her album Solitude Standing. Demands a decent set up to enjoy her controlled vocal tones, the delicately precise symbol taps contrasting the discrete complimentary bass which binds the track before it expands into the instrumental phase for a broad enjoyably melodic soundscape. The precision and atmosphere within this track I found useful to test hifi. The full album is a favourite if I want to relax and take my mind to another place.
Very beautifull. All tracks. I'm impressed with Peter Gabriel's last recordings. Spetially "The Court" and "Love can Heal" both with The dark side mixes from The " io" album.
Thank you for this video. I am one to focus on the recordings before the system itself. Great recordings I found ; Dave's true story (2002 version) album ; The girl from Ipanema by Getz/Gilberto March 1st 1964 ; Maria Mulata by Marta Gomez - Entre Cada Palabra ; Insensatez Rosa Passos & Ron Carter - The world's greatest audiophile vocal recordings, Vol II.
I'm only familiar with Robert cray on your list. I can vouch for him, some of his recordings are perfect. All the others I've written down and will test my system with them. Thanks
Dipama - Richard Bona, you should really give a listen. But almost anything he makes and all his recordings sounds awesome. Otherwise, Cousin John - Marcus Miller, bass-player as well, is a great song.
Broaden your horizons with Orchestra Baobab and their album Specialist in All Styles plus the track Utrus Horas from the Pirates Choice album. Just so special.
I've just discovered your channel. Nice selection of tracks from many genres of music. Quite refreshing really having gone a tracked down the recommendations. One for you to have a listen to which to me has really good recording technique and quality would be - The Milk Carton Kids - Live From Lincoln Theatre . The DVD is great to watch but audio has a great feel. Subscribed.
Almost anything on telarc cd's are awesome. What I used to test systems was Stravinsky "Prince Igor " Telarc cds were labeled as "DDD" which was entirely digital.
Just discovered your channel and what a great set of tracks. I've lined them up for listening later after work. After a quick listen to all of them, I really like Zulu Voodoo by Kalya Scintilla and Pareidolia by Whitebear and Mumuksha. And I'd kind of forgotten about Robert Cray - I was a big fan back in the 80s.
Your whole list is amazing, very well done. My similar list would include: Lori Lieberman - Time After Time (the woman who made Killing Me Softly, but this recording is something else). One Thing from the same album is also amazing. Rebeca Pidgeon - Spanish Harlem (legendary Chesky recording) Urban & 4 - Nocturno (live) - it's in Croatian, sorry, but give it a try. :) Elisa - Almeno tu Nell' Universo LP - Muddy Waters Kodo - Chonlima The Corrs - Radio (unplugged) Hooverphonic - Mad About You Leonard Cohen - You Want It Darker
I'm really digging Pareidolia. The sound is so clean and sharp. I always get excited when you put these lists out I like the variety of genres in the list
Glad you enjoy it! Thank you 🙏

That one also gives me goosebumps.
@@GTTwincam I'll try. Thanks a lot. I know another singer from the north of Scandinavia called Mari Boine.
I set all these up on my Tidal playlist and I have to say every track is a delight and shows off my system nicely. Thank you for sharing.
Great glad you liked them 😊
Did I wrote it? Came here to write the same.
An eclectic mix of artists, most of which I had not heard of. Thank you for an interesting selection.
Angus and Julia Stone, "Draw Your Swords". Simply incredible recording, production and performance.
Hi. Just to clarify about #3 - Dead Can Dance is the artist name, Anastasis is the album title, not the other way around.
Thanks for the list! I love to test systems with Moon River by Jacintha from the Autumn Leaves album. It starts acapella and the mic choice is fabulous. You can hear every breath and her lips touch! Then a wonderful piano solo, the piano and voice together.

Great shares 'A'! These are the type of tracks I never know about since they don't fall into any of genre I currently possess in any listening music file on my app but I'm always happy to find n add to my HiFi playlist to play for that 'wow' factor!
I enjoyed you picks nice to expand the listening experience as for me at the moment I say you might like Joni Mitchell's Both Sides Now
Thanks for these song tips. One of my favorites is albums with great sound quality is Macy Gray's: Stripped. A binaural recording done in a church with absolutely no DSP done to it. Sounds great on speakers and is sublime with headphones.
Thank you I have it on Vinyl it is indeed great
amzn.to/3GTM45w
wow thank you for this! great share!
Thank you for a great selection of music. Listening in the UK
This has been a lot of fun today. I created a playlist of these songs plus a previous episode. So much fun to get out of my norm. The Robert Cray tune is amazing. I’m going to dig around for a track that I think is worth to nominate!
That’s to a song called System Culture by IF. I guess I would call it melodic electronica. Good base and highs.
Tried to post a link - doesn’t look like that stuck. Band = IF. Album = Cult of Cicadas. Song = System Culture.
Thanks for this fantastic playlist! Every song is a masterpiece. My recommendation: The Sea by HAEVN
Very good tracks indeed! Thank you and merry Christmas !
Thank you too!
I totally am in agreement with you regarding "Home". I recently purchased this album and it is a treat. Also, Against the Wind is a nice find and I had never heard this before. TY.
Thanks yes the album is great 👍
Spectacular!
Agreed. That’s a fantastic album!
Movie sound tracks can be a source of well recorded audio. Akira sound track, "battle against clown" has extreme dynamic range, watch the volume levels as it can easily clip. "Doll's polyphony"
Is an exercise in imaging and staging. If your system gets it right, the "de dums" pop all over the stage in height, depth and position. Other sound tracks are crouching tiger hidden dragon and last of the Mohicans.
Thank you for this. You introduced me to a lot of new music that I really enjoyed!
Thank you totally understandable :) , the goal is to have you discover at least a couple, we all have different taste in music.
Kari Bremnes is truly amazing her albums are all well recorded and love her voice
Closer by Ane Brun is a great beautiful song
Thank you Ane Brun is amazing
Now when we are talking about Ane Brun her song “Humming one of your song”. It just sounds great in my system
Gaia by James Taylor, album Hourglass
Both are great sounding albums!
Thank you Gab for this impressive list and thank you to the community for many more starting points to discover great music. On one of these trips I found
- Pablo's song by Gare du Nord from the album Rendez Vous 8:02
- Mad World by Night Bird from the album Thank You
And a little off topic the "Waldstein" Sonata No. 21 in C major, op. 53, played by Igor Levit with so much energy and enthusiasm. For me, it's just pure joy.
Thank you these are great
Very nice recommendations. Thank you.
'Herd Culling' by Porcupine Tree. Beyond outstanding!!!!
Oh.... and Jan Garbarek and any of 'The Molde Chronicles'.
Outstanding , we want more ... = ))
Thank you I have a few more coming and a few already published on my Chanel
I always get a few good songs from your lists that I add to mine. Keep them coming 😊
Det sorgsna hjärtat, Louise Hoffsten, Kära du. Nice recorded.
Done a search for Against the Wind. It doesn't seem available on cd in the UK.
Great song list. Thank you.
Distinctive and great list! Opium would have been on my top ten list as well.
My suggestion:
„Colour to the moon“ by Allan Taylor. An alltime classic!
WOW that Marcus Miller song has amazing soundstage and production value
Broaden your horizons with Orchestra Baobab and their album Specialist in All Styles plus the track Utrus Horas from the Pirates Choice album. Just so special.
I have another recommendation. Fireflies by Benjamin Faugloire Project. In face the whole album L is fantastic
I've just discovered your channel. Nice selection of tracks from many genres of music. Quite refreshing really having gone a tracked down the recommendations. One for you to have a listen to which to me has really good recording technique and quality would be -
The Milk Carton Kids - Live From Lincoln Theatre . The DVD is great to watch but audio has a great feel. Subscribed.
That album of Bettye LaVette is just incredible, thank you , "Hadouk Trio - Soft landing" worth a try
It's not a baker's dozen but it's a Gabster's tens ;-)
Thank you and Merry Christmas.
Lots of music to discover in this video.
Happy holidays!
Practically everything from Yello. Special recommendation: Their 11th album "The Eye". Boris Blank always puts out audio of top notch quality.
Thankyou Gab 😎 There ar so many good musics. Another good exemple here : Chip Taylor " Nothin' (i Suppose)" Very lively 🥰
Que increíble setup tiene, señor. Ojalá un día hiciera un video mostrando todo su sistema. Saludos desde México.
Little Sadie by Crooked Still - clean, with amazing separation
Almost anything on telarc cd's are awesome. What I used to test systems was Stravinsky "Prince Igor " Telarc cds were labeled as "DDD" which was entirely digital.
Just listening to them now, wow really great recommendations 👌
I always enjoy your music recommendations.
Thank you for the support
Just discovered your channel and what a great set of tracks. I've lined them up for listening later after work. After a quick listen to all of them, I really like Zulu Voodoo by Kalya Scintilla and Pareidolia by Whitebear and Mumuksha. And I'd kind of forgotten about Robert Cray - I was a big fan back in the 80s.
My suggestion would be Anette Askvik Liberty
Thank you so much for your list🙏🙏🙏
Especially for « pink panther »
Great compilation ❣️ I loved it… my favourite was against the wind & one more song
Thanks for sharing Gaby
Your whole list is amazing, very well done. My similar list would include:
Lori Lieberman - Time After Time (the woman who made Killing Me Softly, but this recording is something else). One Thing from the same album is also amazing.
Rebeca Pidgeon - Spanish Harlem (legendary Chesky recording)
Urban & 4 - Nocturno (live) - it's in Croatian, sorry, but give it a try. :)
Elisa - Almeno tu Nell' Universo
LP - Muddy Waters
Kodo - Chonlima
The Corrs - Radio (unplugged)
Hooverphonic - Mad About You
Leonard Cohen - You Want It Darker
Thank you for a lot more great tracks
Check out We Are In Love by Harry Connick JR off the album We Are In Love.
