It wasn't goofy when gear 2 was first shown. Gear 4 looked kind of goofy but the fighting style wasn't. Gear 5 is just too goofy. It kind of looses the sreiousness and tension one piece had in previous arcs.

It's not that it's goofy, it's more so corny, the execution is corny is what people are actually meaning. Tom and Jerry and other old school cartoons aren't corny, they're goofy. But the problem with cartoons nowadays is that they're corny and trying too hard to be funny. One piece was already ridiculous but this "toon force" nonsense is just making it corny. Not only that but don't forget that people were hyping Gear 5 up to be more iconic than Goku SSJ 1 or Naruto's rage modes. I always loved how One Piece (referring to the manga here) seemed really western-inspired compared to other manga, especially in super early pre-time skip. It looked so unique because of it. If you look at some of Oda’s really early drawings of One Piece, everyone looked so rubbery and cartoony, especially the animals. I always thought it was so cool and now it makes sense. I wish he kept that early style he had, although it was silly and somewhat disproportionate. It was so fun

But there's always a lesser and greater version of every fruit... so of course there's a fruit that makes a person into something almost beyond human.
I love how 5th Gear totally recontextualizes all of Luffy's abilities and makes their previous descriptions feel like mistaken rationalizations for what are actually physics-defying, reality-warping powers. For example, all the characters including Luffy assumed that he was literally inflating his "rubber" bones with air to do 3rd Gear, but he's actually warping reality to make his fist huge and the action of biting himself, blowing air, and eventually "deflating" is more like a mnemonic device to get his powers to partially work without awakening.
ThecGummy Fruit was from the start a Toon Fruit. Sun God it only got this name because 800 years ago noone knew about comics in that world so Joy Boys powers were like that of a god. Sadly many people misunderstood that and for them the series is now completely over. Their problem. lol

You know the more i look back the more i realize how goofy and inconsistent luffys abilities are. Like being a rubber man alone should not give you these powers, pistol, balloon, basic attacks, are okay. Gomu gomu no rocket is stretching it a bit, and once you get to the gears all logic goes out the window. I was clowning on Lucci for calling Luffys bluff with gear 3rd, but thinking back it makes sense for Lucci to call it out. Filling something with air should not give it more strength.
For the Gear 3 example, the fact that they’re both used on cats makes this a lot funnier.

And this was foreshadowed when people asked what would happen if a human ate the Human Human fruit that Chopper ate: That person would become enlightened and the pinnacle of humanity.
But there's always a lesser and greater version of every fruit... so of course there's a fruit that makes a person into something almost beyond human.
Another simple old cartoon trope that luffy did, healing broken teeth and bones by drinking milk.
I'm pretty sure the fight of Naruto against Pain HAS to have had some Wille E.Coyote inspirations too, because holy crap is it silly
I love how 5th Gear totally recontextualizes all of Luffy's abilities and makes their previous descriptions feel like mistaken rationalizations for what are actually physics-defying, reality-warping powers. For example, all the characters including Luffy assumed that he was literally inflating his "rubber" bones with air to do 3rd Gear, but he's actually warping reality to make his fist huge and the action of biting himself, blowing air, and eventually "deflating" is more like a mnemonic device to get his powers to partially work without awakening.
Oda just wants to add fun to the world.

ThecGummy Fruit was from the start a Toon Fruit. Sun God it only got this name because 800 years ago noone knew about comics in that world so Joy Boys powers were like that of a god. Sadly many people misunderstood that and for them the series is now completely over. Their problem. lol

You know the more i look back the more i realize how goofy and inconsistent luffys abilities are. Like being a rubber man alone should not give you these powers, pistol, balloon, basic attacks, are okay. Gomu gomu no rocket is stretching it a bit, and once you get to the gears all logic goes out the window.
I was clowning on Lucci for calling Luffys bluff with gear 3rd, but thinking back it makes sense for Lucci to call it out. Filling something with air should not give it more strength.
