      He earned that skill. It’s all hard work. I watched his video about how he got to his level, and it was months and ysars straight of playing at least 8 hours a day and having that passion and love for music and, yeah, you get such talent. Well done to him. He’s a phenomenal musician.

    CHARLES! I grew up in the 70's-80's, and you managed to hit all of my musical buttons with this video. I just don't get enough wah-wah and funky bass in my life, anymore, and your playing really managed to scratch that itch. Thank you! I needed that.
    Now, if you'll excuse me, I need to replay this a few times....

      Same here. I play 7 different instruments. I'm fluent in almost all of them. And still pretty good with the others. And yet....this dude skill and dexterity are mind boggling with how technical and accurate he is. It's awesome!!

    As someone who started on bass (switched to guitar cuz I realized that was more my vibe) it surprises me how little bass players experiment with pedals. Glad to see it happening 😊

    I love these short 1 minute videos. Lets you have some fun, play with ideas, rock out with a cool riff you've been noodling with, not needing to stress about working it into a full length "real" song. It's perfect just the way it is.

    the combination of technique, melody and feel is outstanding. I am into bass for a long time and nobody plays like you, even Wooten or other guys, for me you are creating whole new level and page of bass playing. I wish you have like a full time band constructed around you as main instrument like Pilichowski :)

      I would say Charles is an classical playing, style, learning type of bass player wooten instead is kind of an natural gifted crazy harmonics type of bass player.
      I like both very much, Charles needs a band like vulfpack or something.

      Often bands aren't looking for chops like this. In Charles's defence, despite playing some killer licks he really respects the artists he plays alongside in the videos I've seen where he does so, but nonetheless it would need to be the right setup that showcases his talents without him outshining everyone else in the band - what major established band is going to want him to do that?

    A few things I love about this channel:
    1) how inadequate it makes me feel as a bass player
    2) Charles’ humbleness
    3) the fact that his name is Charles. Such a bass player’s name.

      @@EricDeMilio Davie's good. It's just that few bass players look good compared to Charles. Davie's a good example of someone with some talent who put in a lot of practice and built up skills. There's a lot to respect in that. Charles is an example of that rare top-level talent mixed with lots of hard work. Few people can reach Charles' level no matter how hard they try.
      I think Davie's actually a better RUclips entertainer than Charles, although his audience is a bit different. You might not appreciate his act, but millions of others do.

    I just did a show where I incorporated some wa with slapping and the audience loved it. Its definitely a killer when youre trying to play a bass heavy song!

    I’m not even REMOTELY as good as Charles, but a wah was the first pedal I bought and one that felt perfectly adequate being alone on the pedalboard for quite some time. Highly recommended. I’ve been a drummer for far long than I’ve been playing string instruments, but I think that it also helps quite a lot with independence, as you sometimes have to “play” the pedal at a different pace than what you’re doing with your hands.

    im a former musician with no technical know how. the only thing i hear when this kicks off is Dance. it just makes you wanna Groove! cant lie, listened on repeat a few times when i first came across it. super great flow, would love to hopefully see a longer version of this. i absolutely love it! thanks for sharing that Funk!

      Yes, the camera’s frame rate only captures him on the bass but if you look closely you can just barely see him flying around the room to play the other instruments

    I'd love to see you do a full version of "You Should be Dancin'" by the Bee Gees. It has an awesome bass line, and an extended bass solo from Maurice Gibbs, and I'd love to see what you can do with it.

    Fun fact: the speed of the sixteenth-note triplets ends up being over 12 notes per second. Including the end of the finger-style section. That's all, just gonna let that sink in.

    Back in the days when I used to a bass solo spot I used a wah. I was never good at slap but the wah kinda made it sound cooler when I threw in a few bars during my solo.
