Thanks for making the video, McIntosh made an easy to install upgrade. One important note though for future videos.... Carpeted floor, Sneakers, No ESD protection. That can't possibly be the proper method to install a $1000 upgrade. In a worst case scenario hold the board by the edges and avoid touching any components or traces if you don't have proper ESD gear. Great to see how it is done, but please in the future please please please put on an ESD wrist band and use an ESD mat on the table. Your customers will thank you for the increased longevity of the DAC2 module.
Only “specialists” are authorized to perform this upgrade, and yet, no gloves, no ESD straps, using a powered driver to ensure some screws get cross threaded… and if they break it, you can rest assured you will hear, “it was like that when you brought it in.” This is why I hate taking my devices and machines to service centers.
Scott , you are quite correct ! This is typical of many dealers of hi end equipment. Many dealers are unable or unwilling to pay a competent technician to perform procedures or repairs. Often clueless store management and or salespeople perform this kind of work.
Great video. But, I'm surprised to find that McIntosh does not cover its DAC with any EMI shielding. It should. There is a substantial electromagnetic field inside such an amp. For a $10k integrated amp, I'm actually very disappointed.
Zero confidence in the 'specialists' based on this video. A look behind the curtain that shows why some companies need to keep that curtain well and truly closed.
2:42 he just totally cross treaded that screw in . I can't believe they would go at this beautiful amp with an electric screwdriver Hacks Does this guy think he is installing deck Screws
My local McIntosh-Dealer told me: There are only extremely little sound-differences between Dac1-Board and Dac2-Board. Are 1350 Euro too much for Dac2-Upgrade. I am not shure...
I find it amazing that My 800 dollar marantz has no problem decoding dsd 5.6 while my $6k McIntosh C2600 is unable to handle anything above dsd64 without an additional thousand dollar upgrade.
You don't want to use just a regular screwdriver? Put all the screws in loose then tighten them all? This was installed by the same people who install kitchen cabinets without reading the instructions. I'm willing to bet they didn't read the instructions before doing this either.
WOW such rough handling for such a Hi-End component!! 1. You should use ESD protection. 2. Only use hand tools such as a screw driver for screws and nut driver for the standoffs. 3. Don’t place such a heavy amplifier on a cheap plastic folding table with nylon table cloth!
This video is a joke and probably indicative of the hifi dealer industry in general; literally a child could do this 'upgrade', sporting gloves and rubber booties.

I was going to make the same comment. I've been working on electronics for over 50 yrs. and ESD protection is a must.
Toujours a voir avec plaisir un amplificateur McIntosh 😊
1:04 I have dealt with boards that have that crappy ribbon connection, in my experience they are very sketchy.
Why not eARC ? It has become standard now.

Agree, I repair medical equipment - I can do this half asleep.

Were are the McIntosh DAC boards actually manufactured...In Binghamton, NY? USA
Gotta be CHINA
How would you upgrade McIntosh amplifier on the tube side, KT 88. MC 2301?

I’d go ballistic if I ever saw anybody reaching into my $10,000 amp with a pair of pliers. 😳
Yeah F that
Are these what they call audio amateurs?
@@edgoewie2132 nah amateurs flip your $18,000 amplifier onto its side with no cushion on a metal table and scratch it

I agree, the world of 2ch is a totally different world, these guys wouldn't hesitate to spend that on a freaking power cable.

Should not use electric drill,

It's like changing a SD card in mobile phone without any techniques 🥲
Its a shame the Cambridge Audio Dac already Decodes what My C2600 does NOT . Shameful .
