Finally someone that has actually seen them play. I don't get it. People seem to believe Uruguay are this tiny 'lucky' nation. But they are extremely physical and rough. They punch with South American AND global heavyweights and have been doing so since the beginning. Even back in the 90s they had players in Serie A and Spain.

I guess people don't understand the US mentality yet.
The US has beaten Uruguay, Brazil, Argentina, Colombia and everybody else in South America, including all Concacaf nations and Spain, Germany, Italy and a bunch of other nations.
We KNOW Uruguay is a MUCH better team and the US will probably lose but what do you want the US commentators to say?
Would you like your country to play victim and have a loser mentality?
Let them dream; what is the worst can happen? lose a game against Uruguay?

This team is nowhere near the team it's built up to be. It's crazy that previous teams "weren't as talented" but were far more deserving in terms of doing things that earned them respect. Previous USMNT teams beat an undefeated Spanish team, consistently made it out of the groups stage and made it further than the current generation, etc. This team has been given all the respect without earning it and they'ved allowed this team to be mediocre with a mediocre coach.

The biggest problem is that as you said “this team has been given all the respect without earning it” so they think they made it already and dont have to do much else but beat Mexico when the opportunity arises to keep the media happy and continue saying how this is the most talented players in us history yet when the push comes to shove that talent doesnt show.

I miss Landon Donovan. And I hate Jurgen didn't send him to WC2014 like he deserved. He is the reason we qualified. And I completely understand how that drove him to go and win his league tournament after that, just cause of that. I know how that personality feels too. If you see Uruguay's match against Bolivia, both teams came out at the same time. If it's not a targeted thing, as you done to other DT's, is silly, you can't host a World Cup like that. Hi, firstly I am sorry if my English isn't perfect. The thing with natural grass is that you have to let it sit for a while for it to be perfect, if I remember correctly the stadiums for this Copa had their grass "installed" just a few days before the start of the competition, here we usually let it sit at least a week when we change it. Journalist from Uruguay that are covering the copa for us have showed that the stadiums don't have an irrigation system, just a guy mowing with a hose. I know it sounds stupid, but it does make a difference, specially for the better teams that keep possession and play fast. I really hope this kind of thing gets figured out in time for the world cup.

Lalas should be in politics attempting to unite the nation rather than a soccer team that is going nowhere in this tournament. For Uruguay this is simply one more game. Win, lose or draw against the U.S. their goal is to lift the cup at the end of the day and not necessarily the game against the host nation. I have to give it to Lalas, very nice motivational speech but no one cares. Incredibly Mediocre talent from top to bottom and no depth of talent on this team or coming in the Future. Some of the very worst managers, coaches are hired by the utterly incompetent and corrupt US Soccer Federation . Essentially an ole boys network of hiring friends. Nothing is going to change.

Everyone knows US don't have a chance. That's why the tournament suspended Bielsa. No one will be allowed to have contact with him during the game.
Why? Uruguay came back a minute late at half time.

The only time someone relied on sports to "unite a country" was the 1936 Olympics in Munich.
Why don't you quit the patriotical rhetorics and focus on what the sport is about: Healthy competition and learning a kind of sports which is new the US (at the level that it is played in Europe and Latin America, at least)
The aggression in the reactions of the USMNT team in the last game speaks volumes about insecurity, feelings of entitlement etc.
