In the past when I flew, my ears would start to hurt after we landed. I did gum, swallowing more, you name it I did it. I asked my doctor what I could do to help me not be in misery after my flight. He suggested a nasal spray with the ingredient Oxymetazoline. He said to use it an hour before the flight, when I board and when I arrive at my destination. It has made a world of difference.

Wow! Never thought about a nose spray. I feel like knives in my ears. I use the airplane earplugs. They ease the pressure instead of suddenly hitting and it works very well! I also use sea bands to help with jetlag, nausea etc.

Two items. 1: Ear plugs cannot help with pressure changes and discomfort. The plugs rest in your outer ear canal. Pressure is experienced in the middle ear, behind your tympanic membrane, and is relieved through the Eustachian tube, also in the middle ear.
2: Stop using the airplane bathroom as your personal changing room. Your efforts to improve your appearance can wait until you get off the plane. If you don't show some courtesy to your fellow passengers, don't expect any from them.

One additional entry I'd like to suggest -- a ziplock bag, one small, one big. Always having this inserted in any pocket (bag, carryon) has been a lifesaver :)

Sprays, squirts and spritzers on planes are cruel to an asthmatic's lungs. A lady used her dry shampoo and it attached to every molecule of oxygen around me. Coughed so hard I barfed and she was impressed. Hey, she started it.

One of my must haves on long flights is a small container of essential OTC medications; Tylenol or Advil ,an antihistamine, acid reducer, eye drops, anti diarrhea, and anti nausea, etc. this has been a life saver for myself and had to pass some on to other passengers on occasions.

  • @HR-wd6cw

My must have... ear buds and something to listen to, especailly If the flight is longer than 2 hours, then I generally like to sleep and the earbuds can act as ear plugs in most cases. I can get over the dryness or even hot/humid cabin air, but ear plugs for me are almost a must on longer flights since I will generally sleep and there are usually those who just won't sleep no matter the length of the flight or the time of day/night it's flying (one exception would be my 8 hour over-night flight from Chicago to Switzerland, in which most people -- who were smart at least -- went to sleep by 9pm (took off at 7pm and they serve dinner around 8pm), and it was an 8 hour flight and on top of that, you lose about 7 hours due to timzeone changes (so you get there at basically 3am Chicago time). If the flight is shorter than 2 hours then I generally don't sleep unless it's an early flight, but on those shorter flights, there really isn't must haves except maybe something to listen to.

My must have when flying is a gallon sized empty ziplock bag, that I put inside the seat-back pocket in front of me, to collect all of my trash throughout the flight.
Then, when the flight attendant comes through for the final call for trash, I just pull our, zip-closrd when he or she is a couple rows away, then I can hand over then entire bag! No mess, no fuss! And they love the speed of the pass over too, I'm sure bc most people have multiple hand fulls of trash to pass over several "hold on, I have more to give you" wastes their time!
And keeps the area and inside the seat-back pocket clean!!!

I keep a roll of doggy bags in my personal bag and in our car. We have a surplus since our boy passed away. They are perfect for small candy wrappers and other things that might otherwise end up in the seat back pocket. I've even passed one to a mom after she started feeding her toddler snacks.

My must-have on longer flights is a moisturising face mask. (Super popular in Korea!) My skin is both very dehydrated and dry naturally, and popping one of those on in the first few minutes after the lights dim works wonders.
Just remember to keep the packet handy so you can dispose of it easily.

I always love your videos Megan! Thank you!! It would be great if all these sprays and body care items were scent-free. I can imagine half the plane using these and the cabin becoming a perfume nightmare. I am really aware of any scents I use on a plane. Some folks are seriously sensitive to smells and perfumes and they are trapped for the duration of the flight.

Bless you for speaking up, Lava! That would be a nightmare of a flight. Anyone who uses scented products before or while on a flight is selfish and thoughtless. These items would likely make many feel queasy if not ill. Just say no to any scents at all, especially any fragrance items. Then we can all breathe.

A lot of people suggest brushing your teeth while on the plane, but I think the water in most plane lavatories is marked as non potable. A better option for me is the little individual toothbrushes pre-loaded with a dab of toothpaste. I try to avoid disposable items but in this case they make sense for me.

I've been traveling with a portable fan for several years now. I've not yet had to use it on the plane but it's helped enormously when traveling to hot destinations where there was no A/C at the destination, especially at night where I keep it pointed at my head on low and it lasts the entire night.
Along with a face mask, travel pillow, ear plugs, noise canceling headphones, comfortable shoes, lip balm, moisturizer, sanitizer, wipes, a power bank and charging cables, it comprises my entire in-flight travel kit. The only thing I've yet to get is something to put in the seatback pocket so I don't have to touch it with my hands or put my stuff directly into it. Next flight, for sure...

    • @cltinturkey
      @cltinturkey 10 месяцев назад +2

Cheapest and lightest solution to put in the setback pocket is a large ziplock bag or even a plastic grocery sack. Just knot and dispose of it when you leave the flight.

A foot hammock was a game changer on an international flight last year. I have slightly short legs and the distance to the floor when fully seated isn't comfortable long term. The hammock ment i got off the plane without the leg and back cramps that i normally deal with.

I don’t find a foot hammock comfortable due to limited under seat space and long legs.Instead, I bring a beach ball, blow it half way and place it under the seat. Works magic. At the end of the trip, I simply let the air out, fold it and either keep it for the return flight or dispose of it after getting off.

    Congrats on 100000!!
3 things I bring (and they are a bit weird…)
A small first aid kit. Just a few gauze pads, adhesive strips and disinfectant wipes. Throw back to travelling with kids but it’s handy, and I often use the wipes on my tray table.
Gloves. A tough but not bulky pair in case you have to reach into the seats if you loose something (I use mechanic gloves)
A good quality flashlight for those times when you drop something on the floor and can’t spot it. It’s amazing how a light can make it easier to spot
And those last two were suggested to me by a flight attendant 15 years ago- she said they are also handy in case of an emergency
I do bring other things as well but these are the 3 I have used most often

Funny how I constantly hear people talking about flying without contacts on (my wife included) and yet I found flying with contacts is far better for me - I even bring re-wettig eye drops and never had to use them even in 9+ hr flights - maybe I’m odd… But, that said, my top flight item has been my iPad with noise cancelling headphones. I set up the ipad for the 9+ hr flight (I never sleep on a plane) and at the end of the flight, I feel like a 9hr flight is done after a couple hours! For context, I am a 53yr old male and I have been flying transatlatic my whole life.

Megan, you are a wealth of practical information and we are loving it !! First off you can't possibly look grimy and greasy if you tried, but I do like that you are practical (there is that word again, should be your middle name !) in keeping your beauty intact !! I love the idea of that Seatback tray cover and will look into that. My hair does get very greasy so that dry shampoo should be a staple now in my under seat bag !! I use brand name -Mack's Silicone Putty Earplugs for travel and every night use. They seem to stop noise very well and I have little or no problem with ear pressure. There that is my hack for you all !! Thanks again making our air travel much more comfortable and pleasurable !!

I hope that you are in good health and enjoying your life.
Suggestions for video content, and very important concerns while abroad:
In order to help travelers in general, and Canadians in particular while traveling abroad, and since you are such a good communicator, I would like to suggest the following topics for you to address, if possible, please:
The importance of having a will and power of attorney for both property and personal care.
What if you get demented while living or traveling abroad without family or friends...who is going to decide for you during that critical moment?
What to do if one has no family, wife or kids and start losing our memory while living abroad...should one see a lawyer regarding our assets, and other issues?
How does one solve the issue of (yahoo, face book etc.) accounts passwords as well as credit cards PIN in case of sudden death abroad...should we contact a lawyer about the same?
The importance of having a laminated card in your luggage with all the necessary, and very important contact information regarding the executor of your will, power of attorney, or any other major issue in case of sudden death abroad.
The importance of having funeral arrangements made in case of sudden death while traveling abroad.
What to do after having returned to Canada from a very long trip abroad concerning getting the OHIP benefits back again
What are the options for doing and paying the yearly income tax return in Canada while traveling abroad?
How to get your mail from back home while living and traveling abroad?
The importance of advising your banks about your travels plans abroad so that your credit / debit cards don't get cancelled while you are traveling.
The importance of having good antitheft luggage while abroad to keep you safe.
The importance of having a hobby while retired to keep mind and body busy.
The importance of seeing a financial advisor in order to prepare for retirement.
The suggested early retirement formula to reach (F.I.R.E.) or Financial Independence Retire Early. (total annual expenses x 25) =F.I.R.E. money.
Outliving your retirement savings, and the impact of inflation on the monthly budget.
The importance of seeing your family doctor for a physical check-up, and getting vaccinated against hepatitis, malaria etc. before going abroad.
The importance of having more than one way of getting to your money while abroad.
The importance of having travel medical insurance while traveling abroad and your (insurance company suggestions).
Stay healthy, safe and thank you.

Hi Megan! Having followed your channel for some time, I've added many of your recommendations for comfort. Most work beautifully. Do I put my toiletries in the hanging bag? I wondered if TSA or security allows this or do I need to transfer these toiletries to hanging bag in the plane? Thank you for your great videos! Come on 100K!!

Hey Tammy, great to see your comment and thank you for continuing to follow along! I put my liquids in a clear bag through TSA and then transfer them into my toiletry bag before boarding. It's an extra step, but so worth it! Happy Travels!

Hi Megan I'm from Australia love your channel. That fan looked good and was needed in my last trip to Vegas a few years ago we got on the plane at Las Vegas airport to LAX the flight was delayed over 2 hrs due to electrical problems; finally took off and we were going to miss our connecting flight to Sydney via LAX my partner and I run to the next flight as it was leaving without us but to our dismay that flight was delayed over 2hrs due to air conditioning problems it was hot a full flight my partner in the middle seat and he had to fight for at least one arm rest, screaming kids. Megan I needed that FAN I'm going to buy one. Thanks United airlines for both delays. Megan love your channel and can't wait for your next one. 🇦🇺🌹🌹❤

For your hanging toiletry bag, how do you navigate pulling that out of your carry-on suitcase that's usually kept in the overhead bins? I always try not to pull anything out of that because it's difficult to get into and out of the suitcase inside the airplane

Megan, for an Ottawa girl with all its humidity in the summer and dryness in the winter, you sure have sensitive skin. I travelled to the far east and back, over and over, and never encountered all those problems you talk about. To me, an Orleans man, it's always too hot so I just keep the fan on and it becomes bearable.
