I'm getting old! I was at this concert! I can tell you, when that eagle lit up you could literally feel the heat of the bulbs. Must have been hell for the band.
Omg. I never thought Ide see this again! Damnit RUclips is fuckin great. The 80s was so incredible for metal. Hot chicks, lsd, and Saxon. What a night this was!
I saw this tour . They opened for iron maiden. Both bands killed IT. SAXON is soooooo badass. Love this SONG. And the guitar work. SAXON 4 life 🤘🤘🤘🤘🤘🤘🤘🤘🤘🤘🤘🤘🤘
for those who don't know what this song is about,... "Houston control,...the eagle has landed.." the first words transmitted from the Apollo lunar lander when they touched down on the moon in 1969. maybe some of you were not alive then. Its a tribute to the huge clanking metal balls those astronauts have,.. to get on a rocket and blast off to the moon in a tin can with less computing power than a '99 toyota. crazy bastards for sure, and a fitting tribute from a classic band.
that's funny'' yeah no shit'' in a fucking giant bomb literally tin can'', wow'', they had no clue what was gonna happen let alone if they were even gonna make it back if they got up there.
What he actually said was “Houston, Tranquility base here, the Eagle has landed” You can download the entire Apollo radio transmissions. Only 40 hours of chit chat.
Saxon! Such a great band. First saw them when I was 17 (1981) and saw them a few years back with UFO (another great band!) I may be fucking old, but I saw ALL the bands! I still listen to Saxon- one of my favorite metals bands ever.
I saw this concert in Copenhagen, think it was februari '83. When this song started was a moment in my life I'll never forget. ( The album "Eagle has landed" was released soon after, so I had never heard it before). MAGIC!
Anyone remember a time long ago when pulling up to your high school with your best buds in the car and your stereo as loud as it would go jamming THE EAGLE HAS LANDED....... It still fucking rocks!!!!!!
Along with Thin Lizzy's Thunder and Lightning and Wishbone Ash's Twin Barrels Burning, this is what got the callow youth that was me into hard rock/metal in the early eighties.
4/5 of the original line up with Steve Dawson and Graham Oliver. The real Saxon.Great Band. GREAT Line Up. AMAZING Song. I love it. And the shining Eagle.Glorious Times.Saxon are Legends
1st concert ever for me with Accept at the San Jose Civic in Fall of 1984. After seeing Accept live, I was floored and thought nobody could ever do better. Then Saxon came on and proved me wrong!
Awesome. That and many of their other songs. I saw them In Kaiserslautern and years later in El paso Texas. They blew any chance of "Triumph" having a good showing in El Paso. I was there to see Triumph. hehehe.
Fab, travelled far and wide to see Saxon, great band, fab songs and magic live, can even remember Biff getting " Rear" of the year, driving all us women mad...... long live saxon :)
I was in the 8th grade in 1983 and me and all the guys from the neighborhood bought tickets to see Iron Maiden live at the Hemisfair Arena in San Antonio, Texas. It was Iron Maiden, Saxon, and Fastway. It was my first time watching all 3 bands live. The only thing that really makes me very sad is that before the show we all took a hit of acid and smoked a bag of weed and I don’t remember a fucking thing
Thanks for the post. Awesome footage!!!. As a mid-teen kid, this was my favorite tune for a few years. That's saying something with all of the experimentation of sound & songs at the time. One of those good rock tunes that you never tire of, & here we are 35 years later, still kickin' ass. The Eagle has landed... guitar...
Oh what a concert. I've seen them in 1981 for the first time and two years ago for the last time and I'll see them again.... always been great... Biff's voice got stronger through the years and the music is still powerful like in the early years....tx for posting!
I saw them that tour also at the Cow palace in California, what a great show. I couldn't stop the ringing in my ears for days. Great stuff. Thanks for the vid.
Saw them at the Paramount Theater in Seattle in '84 with Accept and Heavy Pettin and that eagle was kick ass. That was the loudest concert I ever went to and at one point Biff whistled into the mic and it was so loud it caused my eyes to vibrate in their sockets and for a second everything went out of focus. I couldn't hear a thing for 3 days after that gig.
I was trying to remember who the 3rd band was that night. Paramount is always too loud. Saw them open for Iron Maiden also. I think prior to this show.
Anyone still listening to this in 2024 ?
Only death can stop me....
Always been my favourite HM band. (It's Biff, he's such a Great Showman.) 😋 😎 😍

John Carous they had a decent idea, they werent just gonna send three people to thier deaths. it was calculated, but still very risky.
This songs proves the moon landings were real, of course.
What he actually said was “Houston, Tranquility base here, the Eagle has landed”
