I thought a few words from the man behind this project would set the scene perfectly, so step forward Drum master extraordinaire Mr Craig Smith:
“This has been a labour of love more than anything that has gone before. Rainbow Rising is up there with my all time favourites. It takes me back to my beginnings behind the kit. I saw Rainbow at Manchester Free Trade Hall on their first ever tour (one benefit of getting older). Everyone’s contribution is absolutely 100% spot on. If I hang up my sticks tomorrow, I feel my work is done.
The band hasn’t got a name. It’s a pool of guys that enjoy making music for their own personal pleasure. If you want to post it out to the world and want add a back story, it’s a recording to satiate my lifelong desire to emulate a classic rock track from my teen years. Ha! Seriously, it’s all just a bit of fun. Me on drums, recording and production, Dave Perry on bass, Rich Thwaites on guitar (all three from the 2010 band Rock Nation). Vox is by Glenn Watmough. Former singer with Bang 2 Rightz (I think that’s how you spell it)”
So there you have it. I of course my my own contribution tinkling the ivories, and it’s hard to believe that Craig and myself have been connected musically since our time in Missing In Action some 35 years ago.

This is a great cover all around but the real standout is the vocalist. Being able to do Dio justice is a fool's errand but this guy absolutely crushes it. Shockingly good.
