I really like your comment about sleep apnea and the exercise you mentioned. Its the main reason why I have been learning didge ( to try to naturally overcome sleep apnea, rather than using a cpap machine). Thanks for your videos man
@@precovery7201 I did a sleep study recently and it showed I didn't need a cpap machine! It seems the didge playing has worked but I also lost weight- the sleep specialist puts more emphasis on that, of course.
14:50 where David talks about reigniting the process from the lungs after you pushed out the air from the mouth chamber. This is a very tricky part for us noobs as that's usually where the cracks in continuity appear. The is a space between the mouth play and the next play from the lungs. The space is really apparent and breaks the flow.
Thank you for your time playing and braking down fun fundamentals of playing the didgeridoo, I'm on day four of circular pressure exercises, there is little to no pause in my vibrational sound now, again thank you
I'm Drew and I've been playing the Didgeridoo for 11 years now I first came across a Didgeridoo when I was a student at Carwarden House School because we used to have a multicultural week. My too favourite cultures are Aboriginal culture and North American Indian culture as well. I have a lot of respect for both of these cultures. I started playing the Didgeridoo when I was at Ruskin Mill in Gloucestershire. I'm not Australian or Aboriginal I'm a British Didgeridoo artist. I absolutely love the sound of the Didgeridoo.
Hah, dang I'm watching from the South West of the UK! I first tried out the didgeridoo at this thing called Didgfest, ages ago, in Devon. Do you remember it? I guess they stopped holding it. Can't say I ever figured out how to circular breathe, though!
Thank you so much! I loved the last video. And this one was just as helpful. I've been struggling for over a week trying to get my lips vibrating without my lungs. I've watched a ton of videos and yours are the only ones that finally made it click for me. I'm finally able to produce a decent sound using only my face and throat muscles. I still need to work on a smoother transition between the two types of pressure while breathing in. But I feel like I'm finally past the stock point. Thank you again and I look forward to watching more of your videos.
Holy shit, dude!!! I just got it BECAUSE I watched your 1st vid explaining its pressure!!!!! Omg. Watched other vids and couldn’t get it until you reworded it! I experimented then just understood what you explained when i felt it.
You are such an amazing teacher. I have been practicing with a straw in a glass of water and I can keep bubbles going while I breathe but when I go to the didge......I fail 😢. I can’t keep the drone and then it takes forever to get the drone sound again. I practice til my lips go numb. I Try to practice 4 or 5 times a day for about 15 minutes each time. I can do circular breathing without the Didge....but I lack the pressure power to keep the sound. I love your videos and appreciate you taking the time to help us out 😀❤️
I started doing a short "spastic" pump with the diafragma to really preasurize the air in my mouth before closing the throat and that gives me enough preasure to take a quick breath
You know what? I have never liked the straw approach because it feels SO different from actually playing didgeridoo. The lip position is different. The lip movement is different. The pressure also feels different. I would stop using the straw, and try making an "f" sound instead if you want to practice with no didgeridoo. And to be honest, the only real way to get it is keep practicing. Remember that every time you play, you are building the strength you need to get it eventually! Your comment was 2 months ago. How is your playing now?
@@Breathwood I'm having trouble with this too. I can do the straw and water thing. I try on the didj, and once I puff my cheeks out (or if I'm super lucky, get to the point where I need to breathe in) , the drone just stops. I'm getting frustrated because I can't seem to get it. Any tips?

Also, thanks for the sleep apnea tip, I was wondering if these exercises would help the throat....gives me even more reason to keep trying. I was thinking that the drone was the same but when you played a little more, I was able to hear the slight difference. I will definitely work on this.

Cheers from South Africa.... You are a great teacher, you have an easy way. Most of my breathing techniques come from you. Question: I always have to take a deep breath through my mouth after a while. - like 6-8 times circular breathing and I have to take a big gulp of air through my mouth. How come and how to avoid it? It almost feels as if I do not breathe in enough air through my nose.
It's amazing to me to know that someone in South Africa is watching my videos! Cool! As for your question, it sounds like you either need to 1) breathe in a little more each time or 2) take more frequent breaths. One or both together could certainly help! Also: practice will help too.
Continuous playing with a bit of restricted oxygen intake...this is how I enter “dream state.” It’s just on the edge of hypoxia, and feels like having a buzz. ;)
@@Breathwood It gets better depending on the Didge I use. The narrower the opening the easier it is. I have a Air Didge and that is such a monster, that one takes a lot of air. I will send you an Damian from your website as I think I do want some lessons from you.
Hi David, I get your advice about not trying to achieve a perfectly smooth drone which is difficult to achieve because the 'squeeze muscles' affect the shape of the lips. Can you offer any tips about trying to minimise that effect because you certainly have managed it.
Thank you for these videos, I feel like I am getting better. I do have one question though. When I play with side of my lips, the sounds is sharper and sounds better but the circular pressure seems much harder. When I play with the centre of my lips, sounds isn't as sharp but the circular pressure seems a bit better. Am I doing something wrong?
thank you for these tips, they really help. I am getting the circular breathing pretty well now but it seems like after about a minute and a half/two minutes something happens and my tone breaks, and I have to restart. It seems like this is also when I need a better exhale and inhale, so I'm thinking its related to fatigue of my embouchere and not exchanging air efficiently enough yet. What do you think? could it be something else? I'm a little frustrated that I can't seem to keep it going for longer but I'm willing to accept the fact that it could just be something that comes with practice ;D
Is there any trick how to learn to ignore the need to swallow (salivary) while playing consecutively the drone? As trombone player I manage playing the didge quite easily and also the circular breathing. My problem is feeling the need to swallow after one minute while I want playing without stopping the drone... thanks !
Thanks for your generous and good natured teaching. I just enjoy your great style. i also get the drool thing if playing for more than about 3 mins. i try and swallow and dry my mouth out before playing. I do use paper towels after to just dry around the top section and i think this is a good plan. i think it is as possibly harder to TEACH the technique than to LEARN it!
