Eunchae is like, "No, Yunjin! The correct answer is that you stab your boyfriend in the neck with a butter knife from the table if he tries to help your friend."
It's funny how dating culture varies. To an American and likely many other Western culures the whole perilla leaf thing sounds insecure and petty unless your boyfriend is clearly flirting with your friend or vice versa, but that is likely because our dating culture and our social culture is so different. Many of our customs likely seem shocking or crazy to much more conservative Koreans when it comes to dating. It's why dating outside of one's culture is always a challenge that requires understanding and patience.
i dont think it has anything to do with conservativeness ... you have to take in consideration the culture and tradition. perilla leaf is a part of a traditional and cultural custom/dish of south korea. it most likely has an intimate meaning. what elderly would do to the younglings of the family and what loved ones would do to each other... thats why specifically the perilla leaf sparked an interesting conversation in south korea in comparison to other issues of your significant other having the opposite sex as friends etc.
