    The latest challenge that is sponsored by Accurist seems to be a fun one. At the end of the challenge it would be interesting to review the metadata from all of the pictures to see how close the actual times are to the proposed nominal. Yes some critical set up and maintenance ot camera time and date.

    • @PhotographyOnline
      @PhotographyOnline  4 дня назад

      @@johnhunter5939 - hi John, thanks for your comments. Looking at the metadata wouldn’t reveal anything about the time taken, as the metadata only takes its reference from the camera’s clock - which can be set to anything. We used 3 different digital cameras (all of which will have a slightly different time set) plus a film camera - which obviously has no metadata.
      Each photo was taken exactly on the hour - according to the phone calls we received from Accurist.
      We will certainly review all the photos on PO Live once the challenge has been completed, so you can watch this to find out more.
      Many thanks for your support and we hope you continue to enjoy watching our channel.
      All the best

    Having been a bit critical of last month's episode I want to say that this time it was superb. I'm pleased that the challenge so far is less silly than last year's in the way it is presented - nothing wrong with a bit of humour. Marcus' "very big camera" section is excellent. Has he seen the black and white paper reversal process with which @the120ist is experimenting?

    • @PhotographyOnline
      @PhotographyOnline  2 дня назад +1

      @@simonmeeds1886 hi Simon. Glad to hear this show was more to your taste. Let’s hope we can keep that up! Yes the paper reversal technique is very interesting, but the problem is that you end up with a back to front image - which obviously has limitations to its appeal.

    Seeing the beautiful Sligachan area again, where we've been lucky to visit twice, made me wistful about Skye, and Scotland in general. That lonely red phone box north of Portree might start ringing, like the end of 'Local Hero'. (We're not ashamed to be slobbery American fans of that movie.)

    I was brought up in the era of film photography but I must admit I am totally bemused by the, as Ruth said, ‘ridiculous’ 8x20 camera. The negatives would be capable of extreme levels of magnification but at any normal viewing distance this level of detail would be completely pointless. I am genuinely totally confused as to its use case or how you would enlarge such a negative. To contact print it, would seem a waste. I’d be really interested in learning how Marcus makes use of the power in those 8x20 negatives.
    I do like the idea of large format photography and the slow process.

    • @PhotographyOnline
      @PhotographyOnline  5 дней назад

      @@stuartblink hi Stuart. This is Marcus. I chose the 8x20 format for a very specific reason. I wanted negatives which were big enough to contact print via alternative processes such as kalitype or cyanotype, but small enough to carry in a backpack up a mountain. You can’t enlarge an 8x20 negative, as there biggest enlarger can only take 8x10. You could scan it in sections and then stitch them, but this doesn’t interest me and I do agree that would be pointless.
      I hope this helps to explain the madness?!
      Thanks for watching

    As a photography educator myself, while I touch on general buy/sell places, I avoid discussions of used gear sales without balancing it with photography sales.
    You risk perpetuating the stereotype that a photographers value is only in their gear.

    I am wondering, what will be the equivalent resolution of the 8x20 in the digital world?

    • @PhotographyOnline
      @PhotographyOnline  6 дней назад

      @@gjokekocev8989 it comes down to many variables, so it is difficult to say for sure. However, if scanned at 2400dpi, it would give an image which is about 50,000 pixels wide, which is 4 times that of a GFX100. And you could easily increase the DPI of the scan.

    i agree with Harry that selling via Social Media, especially FB marketplace, I lost money becuase of a scammer, so I would warn against that method, but I have sold several lenses via 'reputable' dealers, but in every occasion they have said that there were problems like fungus in the lens, or 'signs of ware or minor damage so they offer a lower price than first quoted, knowing that its too much hassle to have it returned and then resend somewhere else, Its difficut to argue that they are telling you the truth and not just saying that to save themselves money, all too risky in my view because you'll never make enough.
