@@WesPerry Fair enough, thanks for sharing your thoughts on this light. I’m considering one of these two for an upcoming short film, and your video was very helpful.
Great video Wes! I was thinking at first about getting the ZHIYUN Molus G300 for my upcoming drama short film. The claim by Zhiyun was that the ZHIYUN Molus G300 can go up to 500. Do you think it's better to get the Zhiyun Molus B500? I have already the Amaran 200xS.
The G200 and 300 in boost or overclock mode make a fair amount of noise as well. And according to the 300 specs, it can’t run that way forever. I don’t have one so can’t say how long it can pull that off for (I have the 200). The B500 can run about 500 for as long as you want, but that one also, as stated in my video, is a bit loud at that output level as well. Depends on how you’re shooting the film whether or not that’s a problem.
@@WesPerry Thank you for your answer Wes, I might actually go with the B500 since you pointed to an important thing: that the G300 can't run as 500 for a long time.
What shutter speeds and iso were you using in the bodybuilder shoot? I just refreshed my strobes but looking into LED for use in video and stills. Is 300w enough to overpower ambient light and still use fast shutter speeds to freeze movement? And with the 500w?
It’s perfectly fine at 50% or below, but get this up to 100 for a while and it’s quite clearly audible. Not Loud, but audible. It’s def not made for whisper quiet shoots. Simply wouldn’t be possible with this form factor.
The Nanlite FC500B is going for $559 now.
According to B&H this is a limited time price. I have to go with MSRP and not sales, as the video will be up for years.

Could you take a look at the new nanlite FCs?

Thanks guys for the discussion and info. How are the 200 and 300 at max levels (200 or 300. Not the boosed 500) when it comes to sound?

ISO 640 1/250s f/3.2
And yeah, lights were all at 100% output
So if this were a more “normal” shoot, I could have been at 1/160, f/2.0 or thereabouts and close to base iso
How's the fan noise?

@@WesPerry good to know, thanks Wes
