after getting siff to have 9999hp and realizing there's a cap to the memory of looping, apparently you can block his attack and survive the instakill lol. so here's beating the king without ever picking up mira's shield!!!! enjoy y'all!!

after rewatching the video i can't believe i didn't even notice this:
strangely enough although the king's tear phase never SEEMINGLY triggers, apparently its heal does? which is so weird to me??? so like the game doesn't expect us to survive that long so it doesn't even trigger the phase
the smug smile siffrin has at the "ready" is way funnier when he knows he can just do this
i love how the king just repeatedly does the same thing over and over like a toddler growing increasingly frustrated
...I'm pretty sure I've whittled away at the king's hp so fast that he never actually gets a chance to do the "instakill" attack before the next phase starts, but I never would have thought to beat him this way.....

That’s like his first attack?
@@All54321 it's his first real attack, but he always waits for several turns before performing that move. If you boost everyone's speed with memories + make up the time or thyme juice and also slow the king down, you can get around 3-4 ish party turns for every king turn, which when combined with increased attack and strategic move choice absolutely shreds his health before he even has a chance to unleash the attack.
In practice he just waits around for a few turns, gets scared, and then creates a tear shield without ever unleashing his first attack. I don't think i've ever managed to skip the second instakill one, but it's probably possible...
They should patch it to account for you doing something like this, even if it's just some extra dialogue...
insertdisk5 said the reason nothing happens at 1k loops is because they dont want to encourage anyone to put in all that effort just for some dialogue, so id assume this is similar

This is a _very_ different approach than the one I took, which was never letting the king even use his super attack in the first place by hitting health thresholds too quickly
AHA i KNEW i recognized that artstyle!! extremely tempted to try this myself, like a big "SCREW YOU" to the king 😭 -would be worth it-
if you’ve got nothing else going on HIGHLY recommend, super draining but super worth it when you get to stick your tongue out in the face of death and just survive
