Just wanted to point out the last bit you brought up about fundraising. Mike Lombardi is the General Manager for the UNC Program. As it stands the plan is for Coach to coach. And to hire staff to run everything else. Just like in the NFL. You have scouts, you have a GM, you have director of player personnel. They are going to run this professionally that's their goal. And for all these people who say coach can't develop players. He had multiple Hall of Famers on those Patriots teams. He developed those guys. Julian Edelman was a QB in College and he made him into one of the best wide-outs in the league for several years. Bill can coach. He can develop players. And he knows how to delegate and run an organization. I will be shocked if this doesn't work out.
How many 18 year olds did he recruit and develop at 72 years old? Zero. Also, you make it sound as if Edelman did nothing and BB did all the work? LOL.
The difference between the NFL and College is as wide as the grand canyon. Especially from the standilpoint of time commitment and professionalism from the players. His expectations of each player will need to be greatly reduced. They have neither the time nor the skill of his worst NFL player. With the $ being invested by UNC, if he doesn't make the CFP every year, he will be a failure, and that's not happening.

Belichick has never coached at the college level, not one day. Until September he’d never posted on Instagram and he called it “instaface” and since then he’s made 8 posts. These kids today primarily communicate thru social media. He’s also an introvert who’s moody and 19 year olds today ain’t like I was when I played where when coaches grabbed you by the face mask, spun you around cursing you, they ain’t gonna take what one recent Patriot player said “it’s nice not everyday hearing how much you suck from your head Coach.” NIL and the transfer portal this is 💯 gonna fail. Take NIL and the portal out of it, this movie has played before NFL guys who were successful come to college with a plan and fail miserably. Bill Callihan going to his Alma mater in Nebraska vowing to drag the Cornhusker’s outdated I formation offense to a west coast NFL offense. Charlie Weiss vowing to turn Notre Dame into an NFL pipeline, Lovie Smith, Herm Edwards at Arizona State and lest you not forget in April he turns 73 years old. They’re gonna regret hiring him, if you’re gonna keep a 73 year old HOFer they should have stuck with the almost 300 game college football winner Mack Brown.
About 3 years from now, they'll fire him or he'll resign. So many things happen that we pay attention to that end up being irrelevant. This is one of them.
Ah yes a guy that has zero college recruiting experience and historically didn’t pay players their worth in order to stretch a dollar will be great at recruiting. The biggest thing kids respond to these days is playing time and dollar signs. Bill won’t promise them either because he wants them to work and earn it. The guys he does get will be gritty and that’s going to be great for the team culture but it’s going to be really difficult for him to appeal to and attract enough 4 and 5 star talent to keep up.
@codycurnutte9778, lol….the number 1 running back recruit has just put Carolina on his list because of Bill Belicheck so there’s that. Bill’s resume will do the recruiting.
I'm in the same boat I'm skeptic. Bill belichick doesn't connect with adults who are mature and educated. How can we expect him to connect to gen z minors who have zero maturity. His communication skills with adults are horrible how do we expect them to connect. There's not an age Gap there's a generation gap here. Those are the questions that I have
It’s quite the bizarre state of affairs. Colorado had 0 expectations cause they were desperate program that had completely bottomed out, it couldn’t get worst with of Sanders. But UNC? What the hell could’ve been going on that made them felt the need to gamble on a guy that clearly wants to still be an NFL coach?
This is a disaster waiting to happen. These young players should run and don’t look back. This guy has no life and he would have taken any job at this point. Nobody in the NFL wanted him😂
Had a whole argument with my buddy about whether the orange helmet behind you is clemson or florida, and now i see that you’re changing the helmets, well done Josh, you played me, go tigers
I’m skeptical as well. He could work out but there are a few points of contintion 1) he’s 72 (time is not on his side) 2) as Josh said, player acquisition in college is a completely different animal than NFL 3) if you look at his head coaching record pre and post Brady (nobody seems to be noting this), it is pretty dismal at 83-101. You might say what about 2008 where Brady was out the entire season and they went 11-5, but was that really impressive? Not when you look at the numbers. That was coming off the 18-1 season and the Patriots were loaded and everyone felt they had a great shot to rectify that one loss in the Super Bowl. They also were facing what turned out to be an absolutely cake schedule. At face value, 11 wins looks great, but 8 of those wins were against sub .500 teams, only one against a team with 10+ wins, and they went 7-5 in conference, which is why they didn’t make the playoffs. They were actually the first NFL team with 11 wins to not make the playoffs. Also Brady going to the Bucs and elevating that team while the Patriots dwindled in his absence gives credence to Bill needed Brady not the other way around.
This makes no sense. Did you follow the Patriots before last year? Look at Brady’s stats during the first 3 Super Bowl runs. He threw one td the entire playoffs during the first one. Tell me a better coach and a coach that won with shitty players. Is Phil Jackson a shitty basketball coach? Did Saban win with scrubs? Belichick had the last choice most years of players and still one. You’re clueless
@@matty4417he probably still won. One is a number.😂 Now everyone knows that Bill is mediocre without Brady just like Jackson was mediocre without Jordan or Kobe. Bill just needs to find his next Brady at UNC. Does the coach make the player, or does the player make the coach? I guess we will find out!
@@donaldjgumpofficial5754 then why did the Patriots completely fall apart when Brady left, but Brady won a Super Bowl with the Suckaneers during a Covid year where he couldn’t even practice with his new team? Brady carried Belichick, and if you look at every season that Belichick has had without Brady, you can see that. He has a losing record as a coach without Tom.
NC just did a Colorado to improve overnight. BBel won't do much of anything but allow an army of N.C. employees to call kids all over the country and say "BBel" is interested in you. Wanna transfer. This sport is now almost destroyed.... like everything else.

I love the show, but you do seem kind of everywhere with this. As a Carolina fan, I think you kind of misunderstand our excitement for this, as it's more about our program finally stepping up and financially supporting football and less so about it being specifically Bill Belichick. I understand the NFL casuals will come in and say that what he's talking about is completely revolutionary when it's not; it's just when we say it, we mean it's revolutionary for us. Also, you do come off as a little bit of a wet blanket with this despite saying you strive to be a positive show. Again, love the show; just trying to give you the Carolina fan perspective. Also, I do have to call out the people that tried to say that this was Tennessee 2017 when it just simply never was. Yes, there was a power struggle at the beginning, but everyone was on board for the past few days, and it quickly turned into all hands on deck rather than a power struggle.
Mostly agree... Resources poured in during Brown 1.0 only for him to leave for TEXAS followed by failed successors. The big news is that the money isn't gun shy with this hire. The reported financial commitment suggests either a new media deal ~or~ a move to either the SEC or B1G.
With his age being a factor and how close he is to the NFL all-time win record, and the structure of his UNC football contract, I'll say he will stay a year or two.
Josh: I’m a Tar Heel and watch virtually every episode of this show. I’ve been waiting for UNC coverage for a long time and this is remarkably underwhelming. You didn’t explicitly discuss our $20 million investment into football. UNC made a decision to play big time football and you ignored it. You ignored the #1 QB prospect in 2026 saying he wants to visit because of the Belichick hire. This entire segment was criticism. I spend hours a week on Inside Carolina. I know you have access to better information. Why not spend time on all of the UNC players withdrawing their names from the portal? How about the UNC Football legends voicing their support? Why not take a moment to uplift the program. I get it. You liked Mack. But it feels like your bias against his firing is influencing how you cover our program. If this poor coverage of UNC continues, I will be unsubscribing and telling my friends to do the same. I watch the show faithfully, but I am not appreciative of this coverage of my institution. - Daniel
This is desperation on UNC’s part. They should have been scouting a proper coach to build with like ASU. But they rolled over and were lazy because they assume this is a good hire. An people forget why Bill was let go in New England.
I just don’t understand this from HIS point of view. Maybe he has some inside information that no one is going to hire him in the NFL but I don’t see that being the case
It's like you can be a Head Coach of a college team and go to the NFL but if your a Head Coach of a NFL and want to coach a college team well not a fit. Hmm
This continued nonsense about Belichick couldn’t draft or evaluate is crazy. How are we judging that? Pro bowls? How can a man win 6 super bowls in the most competitive sports league on the planet if he can’t choose players? Where did all those players come from? Tom Brady? Richard Seymour? Vince Wilfork? Of he had some misses but he was always picking at the end of the first round. Still, he won how many straight division titles? How many straight 12 win seasons? Who’s a better GM or drafter? Someone with one or zero rings? The idea is to build a TEAM, not for fantasy points or pro bowls. He is the best ever at building TEAMS, so to say he can’t evaluate is crazy. The facts show the opposite. He won with less talented players. Even if you say he is a poor developer of talent and couldn’t draft, that must mean he is even better of a coach than we think if he wins so much.
Bill is going to be too much for college kids. They'll just hit the portal when things get too tough for them. Though maybe this is the kind of coach that college football needs right now.
I think all this talk about Belichick not being able to keep players with his coaching still is a load of bull Saban is his former protege and had no problem with keeping players. Kirby Smart has an old school coaching style and he’s never had a problem. Neither did Jim Harbaugh mat Michigan. Belichick will be fine cause winning is what keeps good players
@@gagejernigan5277 but you have to win early. Saban went undefeated in the regular season in his 2nd year at Bama, won the natty his 3rd, and never stopped winning titles and sending guys to the NFL. Kirby and Harbough have been similar. 4/5 stars will stick around for money, NFL interest, and a chance to win big. The first couple years will be key for Belichick. No one wants to deal with him if they’re winning 7-8 games a season. A kid can put up with it if he gets to win 10-11 and fight for a playoff spot in return
I think Bill will have one year, try to prove to himself and to NFL teams he can still coach. If it works, I think he'll go back to the NFL, and if not, he should just retire and stay retired. Just my opinion
i hope it doesn't work. just not a fan of his style. i honestly don't believe he's got the goods or want to in terms of recruiting high school students and their families and creating a hyped locker room culture.
Monte Kiffin came down to the NFL after a hall of fame level career in the NFL completely changing the way defense is played. Pac 12 teams named their score against his USC defenses. It doesn't matter how smart you are or how well thought out your schemes are, they have to be digestible for 18-22 year olds who are also thinking about which girl they're gonna hook up with at the frat party they're going to tonight. Bill had issues getting 10 year pros to understand his defenses. His last decade in the NFL has been spent whiffing in every draft and his Patriots completely collapsed once all his veterans finally retired or left. This is like hiring Tom Landry to coach your college team in 1993.
@@PatBrooks-u6w No he did not. Monte Kiffin coached college football in the 60s and 70s, finally got a head coaching job at NC State and failed his ass off there and got fired after 3 seasons. He spent the next 25 years in the NFL until he went to Tennessee/USC with Lane. He did not go back and forth. He had a career in college then a long NFL career before trying to help his son but actually helping get his son fired on a tarmac due to how awful his defenses were. All his innovations with the Tampa 2 came during that 25 years in the NFL. Despite the fact that his defenses dominated the NFL and his biggest protege Pete Carroll was able to make that stuff work in college, Monte was completely incapable of teaching his defenses to college kids.
@@MinisterManDan Then, why is every university and NFL team using a version of the Tampa 2 coverage right now? Monte was a fantastic coach; however, assistant coaches at every level do not have control over their future when their head coach gets fired. NFL coaches are only as good as the players who get drafted by the head office.....most do not have any control over draft pics. That's why Saban was a failure at the NFL level......
@@tacticalmattfoleyYour question is nonsensical. Monte Kiffin didn't fail in college because his systems are inherently unsound or bad. It failed because he was completely incapable of dumbing it down for college kids to understand after 25 years of being able to coach the best players in the world. The coaches at the college level who have success implementing some of Kiffin's ideas might not be as schematically advanced as Kiffin, but they're a hell of a lot of better at explaining what they do know to a 19 year old than Monte ever was. Bill Belichick has forgotten more about football than 99% of people, but I see no evidence he's going to be able to transition to the college game and teach 19 year olds how to do what he wants them to do. He struggled getting young NFL players to understand his scheme, and now he's going to be coaching dumber less talented players than that.
There are so many sports rags that have evaluated players since they were in Pop Warner football. I don’t particularly think Billicheck is a college coach, but he trained Sabin, the best college coach ever and he did win 6 superbowls and dominated the AFC until Kansas City took over. You can’t deny that. He is a bitter unlikeable person and he was in Massachusetts for so many years, believe me I’m from Texas and lived there twice for about 5 years, most people there are not friendly and not college fans of any sport, except ice hockey. But if he can get a good system in play watch out. UNC is the most prestigious university in the Southeast, period…. It’s a national brand, people love NC Blue and wear their gear all across the country. I’ve lived in GA for almost 15 years and I see more Alabama fans than Georgia, by miles. Alabama is the dominate team here and Auburn is well versed. I never see anyone across the country sporting poodle dog gear, they are regional at best. The NC Brand can be as hot as Miami in the late 80s and 90s when they dominated the market or the total Domination OU had from Wilkerson to Switzer and again while Stoops was hot. A degree from Chapel Hill is one of the most coveted in academia. If they start winning they will dominate in the market tv and sports gear.

I think this is more what you're going for than what you really think will happen.
About 3 years from now, they'll fire him or he'll resign. So many things happen that we pay attention to that end up being irrelevant. This is one of them.
I could see this being a big time recruiting gold mine for UNC. Not sure how it will translate on field but we’ll see. Just my opinion…
Recruiting isn't about coaching, it's about money. That's it.
@ I’m a patriots fan. No it won’t.
Those are the questions that I have
One must take a strong swing to even have a chance of hitting a homerun. I give UNC credit for taking the swing.
I’m a Bama fan till the end but as of right now UNC is my second favorite team.
So you doubled your love for other men this week?
@@FreePickCapperweirdo comment
It’s quite the bizarre state of affairs. Colorado had 0 expectations cause they were desperate program that had completely bottomed out, it couldn’t get worst with of Sanders.
But UNC? What the hell could’ve been going on that made them felt the need to gamble on a guy that clearly wants to still be an NFL coach?
Prevent another slide, continue Brown 2.0's rebuild with a talent infusion, attract and keep a good long-term coach afterward.
Belichick is running a massive risk of being exposed as an average at best head coach.
Did Mario authorize Josh to speak about another coach?
This is a disaster waiting to happen. These young players should run and don’t look back. This guy has no life and he would have taken any job at this point. Nobody in the NFL wanted him😂
How is this a disaster? Is there a better coach? You must be 12 years old and just started watching football
Belichick was 83-101 without Brady....not a win/win hire.
Big splash hire......congrats to UNC!!!!
Had a whole argument with my buddy about whether the orange helmet behind you is clemson or florida, and now i see that you’re changing the helmets, well done Josh, you played me, go tigers
I can’t see belichek recruiting high school players
8:24 Nice shoutout
I'm just unconvinced that a Tom Brady less Bill Belichick is the answer to unc 's football question.
@@matty4417 , you are probably right.
Brady got carried more by Bellicheck than the reverse.
NIL recruiting is money! If they’re willing to pony up 10 mil. are they committed to pony up 5-6 more mil.$’s, if so they may get the top talent.
Been hearing they are gonna put 20 million into NIL..... that's ohio state numbers
Well J I've got hi hopes for next season and no matter what it's still roll tide baby!!!!!
While there's a bit of snow on the roof, there's a warm fire in the furnace.
Reports are Brady has a year of eligibility left. Covid year.
This makes no sense
Heels got the best coach available in my mind
NC just did a Colorado to improve overnight. BBel won't do much of anything but allow an army of N.C. employees to call kids all over the country and say "BBel" is interested in you. Wanna transfer. This sport is now almost destroyed.... like everything else.
Look … if he just snags a large share of the ever present gridiron talent bubbling up from nearby Eastern NC, Charlotte (QB incubator) and Tidewater Va (see Lawrence Taylor) he’ll kick some serious butt - eventually
This could go badly for the tar heels. If it does it could take years to get Belichick out the door.
will go badly
It's been reported that the buyout is relatively cheap.
Have to compete with dabo or its a failure.
Then it's a win (if they have any money) because Dabo won't spend
Im going to be honest, in a previous vid I said that UNC was a warm up interview for him and I was wrong 😅
JP, how do you pick the helmets behind you??? Are they meant to be sending us a message? 🤔
The reported financial commitment suggests either a new media deal ~or~ a move to either the SEC or B1G.
he said two days ago that Bill wasn't taking the job!
At the very least, this will lead to an unfortunate fashion trend in NC.
I think he will have Mike Lambardi do all the politics and fund raising so he can concentrate on coaching more. In theory of course.
That man is dating a 26 year old and now a college coach as a 72 year old 😭🤣😭🤣😭 goooooood God dementia 😭🤣
With his age being a factor and how close he is to the NFL all-time win record, and the structure of his UNC football contract, I'll say he will stay a year or two.
The reported buyout is relatively cheap for both parties.

Throwing shade to thibodaux
This is desperation on UNC’s part. They should have been scouting a proper coach to build with like ASU. But they rolled over and were lazy because they assume this is a good hire. An people forget why Bill was let go in New England.
The BIG12 is a Tier 2 that most any member can win.
I dont think it will be any worse than where they are now, but im not so sure its an upgrade.
Question is, how will Jordan get on with the other ACC coaches wives??? Although he can use her as proof he knows how to recruit!
I just don’t understand this from HIS point of view. Maybe he has some inside information that no one is going to hire him in the NFL but I don’t see that being the case
He only took the job so he good keep a better eye on his Girlfriend at school while she is in class 😂😂😂
John went to college and won a title and I think bill will win
It's going be different for sure since nit come in he can't be to hard on the kids
But can he recruit🤣🤣🤣
Hmm I wonder why he’s thinking about Altoona
NIL and transfer portal are going to exhaust the old man.
Saban checks out and Belichick steps in??? WTF is going on with college football?
It's like you can be a Head Coach of a college team and go to the NFL but if your a Head Coach of a NFL and want to coach a college team well not a fit. Hmm
Holy shit we’re all cooked
Better hire heavy recruiters!
LOL. You're not coming to interview a ACC school's head coach.
Huh? He already has....
It remains to be seen if he'll rise to the occasion or just.... Deflate
players always got $$$$ to play at a school - it is now out in the open
I don't care how well he does just as long as he takes away more talent from Alabama and other top schools
Who they gonna hire next kernal sanders
He is there for a huge paycheck and screw college coeds.
It’s probably where his girlfriend goes to school 😂.
Bill is going to be too much for college kids. They'll just hit the portal when things get too tough for them. Though maybe this is the kind of coach that college football needs right now.
Arch Manning transferring to UNC
This is good for the acc
Oh Bill Belichick wants to coach at North Carolina. So his girlfriend can have some friends. Maybe she'll join the cheer squad😂
I think all this talk about Belichick not being able to keep players with his coaching still is a load of bull
Saban is his former protege and had no problem with keeping players.
@ if he doesn’t win early he won’t win at all. That’s the way I see it
I think Bill will have one year, try to prove to himself and to NFL teams he can still coach. If it works, I think he'll go back to the NFL, and if not, he should just retire and stay retired. Just my opinion
A guy in the 70s having a 24 year-old girlfriend is gross. He could be her grandpa.
Why did he leave the NFL and why UNC?
No better place to be a college coach than in Chapel Hill.
Duke is a better program with a brighter future argue with a wall
i hope it doesn't work. just not a fan of his style. i honestly don't believe he's got the goods or want to in terms of recruiting high school students and their families and creating a hyped locker room culture.
Kiffin went back and forth between college and the NFL over 50 years.
Why,. Just why
UNC won’t make a bowl next year

The only power struggle about this hire was you trying to find sources who have a brain... he's been eyeing the job since Mack Brown was still there in the summer and Bills also been talking to many of the top hc and colleges explaining to them how the sideline iPads and green dots work, and new 2 min rule situational football and much more all this past summer...ask Steve at Texas....so it's actually more like the NFL than you think...and Bill is the GOAT of all coaches so nobody else is going to outcoach him so what's left that you tried to pick apart (not very well) about this hire again oh yeah evaluating younger talent...um you don't think he will have hired scouts and everyone already knows who the great players are so you need what money and a great coach...hmm UNC just hired the GOAT for 5years and paid him 50mil and promising him 20mil per year increase in nil alone not to mention the additional 10mil they are paying his staff ie the new GM Lombardi....it's called UNC saying chips to the center bc we are going all in on our football program for the first time ever...what you gonna say when Bill flips Manning or goes to your precious SEC and takes Milroe from Alabama or Nico from Tennessee all bc they want to get paid and know that they will learn everything they need to know about the NFL... everyone wants to play for the GOAT while he coaches college 💯 it was a brilliant move by UNC and it helped the ACC too!
