  • Mount Wise is one of the most highly secured Naval command and control facilities for the British Military. A lot of the command of war fighting and Nuclear Submarines including launch of Nuclear Missiles is now handled by underground facilities such as the Corsham Computer Centre which is situated 150ft underground in a spring floor shock mounted super computer centre with its own "Global Security" centre which is situated above ground with its own data centre which rivals the size of GCHQ and some say is a fall back datacentre for GCHQ who paid for it. The Data Centre masquerades as publically owned to avoid scrutiny and freedom of information requests.
Some extra info gleaned from the web
Military use in the 18th & 19th centuries
The house was designed by James Wyatt and built between 1789 and 1793 in Plymouth limestone.[3] It was originally known as Government House and served as the home of the military Governor of Plymouth; it later housed the General Officer Commanding Western District until that army command moved out in 1905.[4] The house was then used as the home of the General Officer Commanding Wessex Area until 1934.[5]
Naval use in the 20th & 21st centuries
The naval Commander-in-Chief, Plymouth, who had previously been based next door at Hamoaze House, moved into the property in 1934 and it was renamed Admiralty House.[6] At the same time Hamoaze House, was handed over to the Major-General commanding the Royal Marines.[6]
Area Command Headquarters and Plymouth Underground Extension
In 1939-41 a partly subterranean complex of buildings was constructed in the grounds of the house, within the ditch of the old fortifications, to serve as a combined RN/RAF headquarters for maritime operations; similar Area Command Headquarters were constructed at the same time close to the Royal Naval Dockyards at Portsmouth, Chatham) and Rosyth.[7] The Prime Minister, Winston Churchill, visited the house and the combined headquarters in 1941.[8] The headquarters were expanded during World War II by a series of tunnels, known as Plymouth Underground Extension (PUE), which formed a sizeable bomb-proof bunker complex under the garden of Admiralty House; it could be accessed from Richmond Walk, Blagdon's boatyard and Hamoaze House as well as from the headquarters building itself. PUE was closed in the 1950s but the headquarters block continued in use.[9]
    Post-war
After the war the combined headquarters (renamed Maritime Headquarters) remained in use as headquarters of the Commander-in-Chief, and as such provided command facilities for NATO operations in the Eastern Atlantic, together with local co-ordination of RN, RAF and Civil Defence capabilities, and assorted intelligence and maritime surveillance facilities. In the mid-1980s and early 1990s the facility was comprehensively upgraded.[6]
After 1969, Admiralty House became the home of the Flag Officer, Plymouth until that post was also disbanded in 1996. The complex was then used to house a number of different operations on a temporary basis until 2004 when it was earmarked for disposal.[6]

The gate has been repaired with a new sheet of metal so you can no longer access this way. However, one of the tunnel entrances along the public foot path above Blagdons Boat yard. Has been interfered with. The entrance is covered over with a solid bolted metal grid, inside is another grid (less secure). This has been kicked down from the INSIDE. So someone has been inside the tunnels. It has given a clear view down into one of the tunnels. But you cannot access them.
The inner grid has been down for a few days at least and no one has put it back up yet.
The security you encountered in the previous video are from the Mount Wise Housing development (luxury houses and apartments being built in the newer Admiralty House). The original Admiralty House is now Hoamaze house.

25:21 inside the CCA those trays would have contained fullers earth. Fullers Earth is used for absorbing chemical agents which may have contaminated your hands during an air raid or enemy attack. The contaminated fullers Earth would then be collected in trays or bags and then you would proceed to the centre section to change into clean clothing. The CCA is usually between a set of heavy duty gas tight doors which were in,y closed when the bunker went into lockdown. Exercise or real no duff situations. So when the gas tight doors were shut, the only way in and out of the bunker was via the CCA and only one set of airlock doors can be opened and the area between had to then be purged before anyone else came in.
Then going back out to the entrance of the bunker would be the heavy duty blast doors.

The problem with all these bunkers. During the 80s and 90s there was a MASSIVE government spend to get all of the UKS defences up to date. This involved so many bunkers like the radar network and all the comms which the RAF were in charge of … but when the wall came down in 91 it threw a massive cat amongst the pigeons and in 95 there was options for change and the military systems all came under revue. Technology was changing fast everything changed and a lot of the big projects were still under development and a lot of projects got scrapped as the tech become obsolete. So a lot of these places went onto care and maintenance.

28:14 those MOD property phones where part of the GPTN general purpose Telephone Network. They were located throughout the bunkers and were maintained by BT at the time. BT had a small bunker PABX system in the bunker. You were probably in one of those rooms earlier on near the Battery UPS equipment. The UPS a system was to keep the power supply to the PBX and other essential systems. But there was also was another telephone system inside the bunker connected to the MOD network of which there were many.
The military system ran on a -51V DC power supply fed from a huge bank of lead acid battery’s which is why you saw rooms with tiled floors. Regs said that all power rooms where batteries were used had to be able to contain leaks so they were like wet rooms if you like. The first aid stations you saw were for treating staff who may have come into contact with acid eye wash stations, alkaline for decontamination during leaks etc.

I would believe the red indicates the ups system (uninterrupted power supply) this keeps the power on until the generator kicks in. This is to stop your Data being interrupted e.g having to reload or start up all your computer's and to keep a safe secure environment. The red and blue arrows indicate the air direction and to indicate it's mixed heat so probably the offices. If you find a pure blue it indicates cold air only for comms room etc

Many of the system X exchanges installed during the 1980s continue in service into the 2020s.
System X was scheduled for replacement with Next Generation softswitch equipment as part of the BT 21st Century Network (21CN) programme. Some other users of System X - in particular Jersey Telecom and Kingston Communications - replaced their circuit-switched System X equipment with Marconi XCD5000 softswitches (which were intended as the NGN replacement for System X) and Access Hub multiservice access nodes. However, the omission of Marconi from BT's 21CN supplier list, the lack of a suitable replacement softswitch to match System X's reliability, and the shift in focus away from telephony to broadband all led to much of the System X estate being maintained. Later software versions allow more concentrators to be connected to the core of the exchange, and thus BT are rationalising[when?] their System X estate by re-parenting concentrators from old exchanges with Mk1 DSS onto newer exchanges with Mk2 DSS, often converting DMSUs into CTLEs (combined trunk & local exchanges). The need for these CTLEs to host large numbers of concentrators (90+) has resulted in unacceptably long restoration times. As such, the exchange software has been heavily re-written to speed up the restoration times. Previously, the exchange would bring resources into service in a fairly random fashion, whereas the new software concentrates on getting service back as fast as possible through reduced downloads, faster downloads, bringing subsystems and concentrators back up single-sided etc. Closing the subsequently redundant Mk1 exchanges enables a saving in floorspace, power and cooling costs, with some buildings given up entirely.

System X was developed by the Post Office (later to become British Telecom), GEC, Plessey, and Standard Telephones and Cables (STC), and was first shown in public in 1979 at the Telecom 79 exhibition in Geneva, Switzerland.[1] In 1982, STC withdrew from System X and, in 1988, the telecommunications divisions of GEC and Plessey merged to form GPT, with Plessey subsequently being bought out by GEC and Siemens. In the late 1990s, GEC acquired Siemens' 40% stake in GPT and, in 1999, the parent company of GPT, GEC, renamed itself Marconi.
When Marconi was sold to Ericsson in January 2006, Telent plc retained System X and continues to support and develop it as part of its UK services business.
