Riyoko's channel: youtube.com/@riyopiano website: riyoko.jp Here Riyoko with her trio performing live her fun improvised polymeter version of 'Take Five' by Paul Desmond for Dave Brubeck. This performance was recorded during Riyoko's 'One Another Day' (2024) album ruclips.net/video/diex9kOWiAk/видео.html tour on 9 October 2024 at D - B o p Jazz Club (copyright holder, I don't own any rights to this recording, no infringement intended). Yosuke Inoue youtube.com/@yosukeinouejazz is on bass and Yoichiro Yamauchi youtube.com/@%E5%B1%B1%E5%86%85%E9%99%BD%E4%B8%80%E6%9C%97 is on drums. Different versions of 'Take Five': ruclips.net/p/PLDmmxnLbBETgTOf740LMy1kgIUpnsN8uT Riyoko is a world-class Japanese Jazz pianist and composer who isn't bound by a single genre or style and has crossed classical, traditional Japanese, pop, EDM, and anime genre boundaries and styles in her compositions, arrangements, and performances. She's a classically trained prodigy and has been playing piano since age 4 and for well over 3 decades, latter 2 of which she dedicated to Jazz. She's renowned for her musicality, deep harmonic understanding, live performances full of energy with fluent improvisations, and delicate touch on the keys. Together with her talent and charming character she continues to proliferate Jazz and attract many fans from all over the world. You can learn more about Riyoko and sample more of her music from playlists on my channel home. Riyoko doesn't really make short clips of her music and a lot of her music and performances are missing from her own channel due to Japanese copyright laws, where venues own all the rights to recordings on their premises. Because of that Riyoko can't freely share a lot of her music with us. But an artist like this should be shared with the world, so I'm making it rain on my channels.
Enjoy the show Cris! I'll be sharing one more show after this one. So we have 2 shows from Riyoko's 'One Another Day' album tour. Both have great audio and visuals. That's rare in my experience streaming Riyoko for the past 18 months! Believe it or not, this is the 5th Riyoko's show from D-Bop and the first time D-Bop got the sound right without clipping distortion on piano or being out of balance compared to bass and drums. It's just right and sounds amazing this time.
0:00 Take Five (Paul Desmond / Riyoko) - intro improvisation 3:08 Take Five (Paul Desmond) 4:37 Take Five (Paul Desmond) - improvised bass solo 6:00 Take Five (Paul Desmond) - improvised piano solo 7:58 Take Five (Paul Desmond) - finale
I think I may have heard this before by her (even though she will play it differently each time !! )…or perhaps at a different venue? Nonetheless, it is fabulous and I love the song. BUT … Riyoko’s style and touch just brings it to an elevated level. So beautiful to watch and hear !! Thanks Mike for always sharing these gems. ❤❤❤
Yup! 'Take Five' is a popular jazz standard and I have a playlist linked in description with 10 other different versions of it by Riyoko. I think I have more recordings of 'Take Five' than MIYABI, I have to check. The original is in 5/4 time signature but Riyoko's versions are polymeter and she plays the main melody in 2 different time signatures at the same time in right and left hands, 5/4 and 4/4, while rhythm section is 4/4. So it sounds like a techno house version compared to the original, plus the other jam goodies added. That's the added difficulty here.
@ I just can’t keep up with all of this !!! The quality of this video was solid. It will be impossible to catalog everything, but I would not bet against you !!! ❤️❤️❤️
@@PianoImprovVlogger Haha. I do have everything that had venue cameras or mics rolling (even that one FM radio broadcasted show from Riviera Zushi Marina back in February that I got up at 4am and recorded over their web radio player). 😅 If Riyoko isn't already the most documented piano artist on the Internet, she's going to be. Great audio is so rare on streams from Japan, there are now 2-3 out of over a dozen Riyoko shows with perfect sound levels without distortions.
@@PianoImprovVlogger Before I started my channel, I asked a bunch of RUclips channels to react to a video of Riyoko ('Luna Sol' from 2016). Nobody wanted to do it except one smaller channel (~20K subs) but he specializes in J-Metal and not a fan of jazz, so he ripped it apart and had nothing good to say. 😅 He said the best thing in the video was the drums.
Haha I have a playlist with a dozen of 'Take Five' versions by Riyoko and they are all different ruclips.net/p/PLDmmxnLbBETgTOf740LMy1kgIUpnsN8uT she's getting more and more creative with it each time.

@@LogioTek There will be no artist in history that will be as documented!! You and her should go on a famous music podcast on RUclips.
