- Your Friend Andrew W.K. | A Film by Flavio De Feo
Andrew W.K. often gets dismissed as a one-dimensional party animal, and that's understandable. That is, after all, his brand. But contextually speaking, there's something profound and even poignant about his maniacal refusal to let darkness overcome him - or anyone else within earshot of his music.
In this documentary, Andrew talks about how all this started, his early influences, Steev Mike, and the struggle to find clarity amongst the chaos and confusion of internal turmoil.

Really, REALLY good watch. I have always viewed Andrew W.K as my 'Okay, we need to get ourselves in a good mood' music and would love nothing more than to have Andrew live forever. His music is a total ray of sunshine in such a shitty world we have right now. The documentary itself is a fantastic watch as well, really interesting topic and an interesting edit to keep you anchored to the screen and just become entrapped with the whole story.
Absolutely loved this documentary. Andrew W.K. saved my life I was going to go home after work and hang myself and I asked the universe if there is any reason I should live give me sign. Not even 5 minutes later I turned on spotify and the single "Music is Worth Living for" was released that morning. Thank you Mr. W.K. I am glad I am still here.
Amazing!! ❤
You Are Not Alone
AWK believes in you, brother!
Glad you didn't leave the party
A friend of mine was working with a moving company a year or so back and had Andrew W.K. as a client. When he found out my buddy was a musician he gave him all this recording equipment (mixer, various outboard gear) and a guitar that he signed for my friend. Truly a stand out guy.
This was amazing, well done.
I've seen AWK a few times, and hearing that 100 countdown always gets me pumped.
From 100-70, the crowd is doubtful, they don't want to count for that long, they don't take it seriously.
70-50, they realize it's real, and join in.
50-25, like soldiers marching together, the whole crowd chants together.
25-10, the sound is like thunder, electricity flows from each person.
10-0, a nuclear bomb is literally exploding in slow motion, and we are the core.
"When's it's time to party we will party hard"
3 minutes of a chaotic dance party, all ages and backgrounds going crazy.
I love Andrew WK, I hope he never stops.
It's truly one of the best moments to be alive. It gives you 100 seconds of total mental freedom. Nothing else matters in that 100 seconds + 3 minutes and it's so freeing. I never knew how bad I needed that time until it happened.
The countdown is from 93
the countdown is from 93, Aleister Crowley's magickal number of Thelema
He is amazing. I briefly was aware of him when I was 20 in 2002 and a wild party Navy guy. He had some popular songs then. I forgot about him for 20 years and am now revisiting his catalogue. The wolf is a masterpiece and this man is truly a musical genius. I would meet this guy over my previous idol, Keith richards. (I’m a guitar player). But I am blown away at the complexity of this guy and his awesome music.
I saw him in 2017 or so. They did this, and you're absolutely right on how this affects the crowd. It's really great.
I think the most positive place I have ever been in is the pit at an Andrew W.K. concert.
I've never seen someone be able to articulate that urge to do "something big" before. Thank you for bring this to my attention
Thank you man. What a sweet documentary. You have a great sense for the subtle as well for the fuckyeahletsfuckingGO moments and you really know how to use sound to create an immersive atmosphere. 11/10
He's so incredibly well spoken. The way he easily articulates his thoughts of life's complexities 🤯
I feel like he's Socrates, Bach, and a golden retriever all trapped in AWK's body ❤️
We need more artists like Andrew in the world. Philosophical, poetic, party animal. I hope he makes a comeback soon.
Ok, wow. First i watched your SteveO doc and now this and omg what a huge talent you are. These are utterly fantastic portraits. I knew absolutely nothing about Andrew WK and this was really great!! As a fellow documentary filmmaker, I def applaud you!
Wow, thank you! Comments like this are very motivating! Thanks man!
I have played drums for 20 years, alone just with the music. What an inspiration. One day I hope to play with others
Bro, this went from 0-100 real quick. I don't know alot about Andrew but with the whole imposter situation, I noticed during an interview when he was wearing his sunglasses he didn't have his tats on his biceps.
Hahahaha, dude, what an amazing doc. Please never stop!!!
This documentary is awesome! I'm so glad I kept it open in a browser tab for 4 days and finally watched it.
Maybe it's because I've loved Andrew's music for nearly 10 years now. Maybe it's because I'm a therapy/counseling student. Maybe it's because I'm a musician myself. Maybe it's because I just finished a week-long course on trauma and well-being and am a little raw. Maybe it's because I'm moved by music...
...but I had chills throughout the entirety of the end credits. Teared up a little bit too. Thanks so much for making this. This was amazing. I hope one day to be able to see Andrew, meet him, and tell him thank you.
Flavio, thank you so much for enveloping the entire concept of the party heart from our friend, Andrew W.K. This was absolute brilliance and thoroughly provides a clear explanation to what the party message is. I personally needed to hear all of this today. I'm overabundantly grateful.
Can you watch this without a smile on your face? I can't
Andrew WK is my favorite person in the world.
I've wanted to see something like that for a while. I'm glad I got to watch it. Really loved seeing his super-early stuff where it's just him and his keyboard as a band and there was literally no more or less passion and intensity than what we see today. Coming together via music is that dude's vibe and he hasn't skipped the beat since he found it.
I've always viewed Andrew as wholesome but seeing this documentary just cements this idea that he's the physical embodiment of pure joy and good vibes.

The most relatable thing I’ve ever, in my 47 years, heard any artist say.
That is *exactly* why I’m in my headphones all day everyday.
Music makes life worth living.
Your videos are amazing. You deserve all the subs. I mean, that was an astonishing portrayal of WK, And you didn’t even have to speak. I’m blown away.
Thank you so much! Truly appreciated!
Such a positive message AWK is. Truly an ambassador of life. I love this man.
The comment section here is 100% positive too! I enjoyed reading every one of them. Then gave them all a Thumbs Up.
Spread the love AWK!
Thank you Flavio De Feo!
Party on my brothers 🤘✌
Incredibly well done. This is the only thing I've seen, that's not made by Andrew himself, that does his art justice
This is absolutely incredible! The content, pacing, editing, all of it is top notch
I absolutely concur and eloquently verbalized! ✨😊
Been a fan of this guy for a while, not just his music but him as a whole being. He and his mentality intrigues me and I really appreciate not just him but you got making this amazing documentary.
And I appreciate you for watching it and leaving this nice comment! Thank you ...and never stop partying!
Cant wait to see him finally go live again after 2 years this 2022
Edit: this is profound, powerful, and moving. It encapsulates that feeling of listening and watching Andrew perform. He somehow managed to make something so motivational by doing what is, at its core, "basic" and common. Party on.
Thank you for watching!
He is amazing. I briefly was aware of him when I was 20 in 2002 and a wild party Navy guy. He had some popular songs then. I forgot about him for 20 years and am now revisiting his catalogue. Thank you for this. I am and have been recognized as one of the oldest, longest fans of A.W.K. This documentary confirms what I have thought in the past year. Andrew or “Drew” is whom I consider a friend that I care about. I Believe and even though he may not be verbally open about it that in the past year or so it’s a combination of things. But this documentary has put things more at a clarity of perspective I have two some of the habits and things he’s had to go through. I knew Andrew for himself as a person. He is an enigma but he is still the shy guy from Detroit who is a big kid, loves music and wants the best of everyone. Thank you for this documentary. #andrewwkforever #longlivemusic
That was incredible! Thanks so much for making this.
And for the record....I've interviewed Andrew multiple times since the early 2000's including making an entire documentary film with him 'Party Safari' and can confirm he is the same party legend he was always been. Love live the king of party x
Andrew W.K. has saved my life many times thanks to his music. That makes a bad day a great day when I have my depression. He is my biggest idol my only hope in my life. I got Andrews autograph "Andrew W.K." tattooed on my arm so I always have a story and tell about him when I get older and how he has saved my life. I wish he could see it but maybe one day. I love you Andrew W.K.!!!!!
Thank you for this, made my night. Talked about it for hours, brought a tear to my eye.
This is the best thing I've ever seen on RUclips. I really needed this today. Thank you!!!
Thank you so much! I’m happy you liked it!
This film is so incredible. I have watched it three times through on my own and twice now with my students in music appreciation. Amazingly well done.
Thank you so much, I’m very happy you liked it!
For Father’s Day I treated myself to this film. Well done! I’d love to see AWK live someday. He’s such an inspiration.
This is brilliant. I was quite passé on AWK until I went along to a gig of his with some friends and was blown away. His stage presence was unbelievable and I'm now a huge fan. Flavio, you've done an incredible job with the editing and pacing of this video, it's a level of quality you rarely find on RUclips. Thanks!
I think it's ok to be confused, you're right, hang a hat on it. Your music brings others joy and you yourself carry joy throughout the world. Thank you
This is very well done and put together. I’m only 5 minutes in and when I get proper time (I’m writing this so late to bed) to watch in full. Very professionally edited and engaging. Better than the interviews and things I’ve known about Andrew over time and the years.
Got to play guitar on stage with Andrew WK in 2003 and I'll never forget it. Rob and Brad say HI ANDREW!
My ears is thanking Andrew WK, but my eyes is thanking Flavio De Feo
This was moving and completely awesome. Long live our friend Andrew WK.
I first discovered Andrew WK’s music when I watched Hellsing Ultimate Abridged here on RUclips. The intro song was “Party Party Party”, and afternoon herring this song and the attitude it brought me, I wanted to here more of it. So I looked up Andrew WK and found “Party Hard”, and from there, I enthusiastically threw myself into the rabbit hole of partying/ enthusiasm/ positivity/ light that his music brought to me. That was a little over 5 years now. And I will continue to listen to these songs for as long as I can. Keep at what you’re doing, Andrew WK. you’re doing phenomenal.
00:45 I almost shat my pants, but I'm willing to take the risk for the rest of the video. Love AWK.
This is really excellent.
This was so beautifully done and a pleasure to watch! I've been a huge Andrew WK fan for years with an entire room of my house filled with autographed posters and merch and 3 tattoos with different lyrics from Party Hard. I've used Andrew's music for inspiration, motivation, and meditation. I'm eagerly awaiting to see what he does next. Thank you for this!
Blown away. Superb quality and love anything on WK
What an excellent film / doc. I've been an AWK fan for long time, have seem him and his band multiple times and learned so much. Thank you Flavio.
A great story behind Andrew W.K. I cried about so much that happened in my past and I was impressed by the events of the fake Andrew (Steev Mike) I simply loved and will continue to love Andrew W.K. I'll even show it to my future children :,)
Thank you for this. I’ve seen WK live twice and waiting for the next concert to just let the energy and good times roll. Because when it’s time to party we will part hard. 👍🏽👍🏽
Absolutely incredible achievement, particularly the editing. This is illuminating, interesting, and it communicates that weird and thrilling AWK sense of positivity. Thanks so much!
The creation of SOOUUNNDD! 🙏🙌✨
Thanks for making this documentary, i've always been a huge fan of Andrew W.K
Amazing work, man! This is so great because I’m always try to explain to my friends why Andrew is so interesting, and now I can just show them this.
I worked at tower records in Sacramento and one of our co-workers went to the show at the boardwalk. He got Andrew on the phone and he talked to all of us in his typical positive fashion. It was great. Props AWK
Dude, please keep making documentaries!! This was sooo well done!!! Thank you
Thank you dude! Really grateful for the support! 🙏🏻
@@FlavioDeFeo are there any more documentaries that you’ve worked on besides the 2 posted here?
This was one of the best documentaries I've watched for a long time, you've nailed what AWK is all about! Very interesting stuff. Where did you find the video of him playing in the bar in 1998?
Andrew is just an all-around good guy. Thanks for the music!
Wow, Flavio - you did a really fine job. It's a crying shame that this video and Andrew W.K. aren't more popular, however I'm confident that we are all just early to the party. Thank you!
Excellent. Thank you for making this and sharing!
Nice work, Man! 🤘 Never Let Down
Andrew WK has been a huge influence on my life for over 20 years now
This is very well done. Your filmmaking chops are on full display and you couldn't have picked a more interesting subject.
Thank you
I was late to watch and appreciate your film, but it was here right when I needed it and so was AW.K.
At roughly 20:23 he's on FOX23 at 8:23. The countdown to zero starts at 93. Great Work, guise! ;)
Dude, incredible. What a ride. I loved the style of the documentary. Subbed.

Wow, excellent job! Seriously, this was really well done.
Inspiring, fantastic, thank you very very much !
Beautiful. Thank you.
Thank you for this. Their are so many smaller artists that generally make the world a better place and by doing this and giving those people a voice you have done a wonderful thing.
Superbly put together doc. PARTY ON!
Flavio this is a beautiful documentary, thank you!! Captures the essence of Andrew WK's journey so now anyone can learn about him in under and hour and get into the vibe with us as fans and friends for whatever is next!!
I met him once at an music festival. Very down to earth and likeable. Great documentary…loved the Steve O one too.
This was really great, thank you!
This was a really neat and interesting doc. I hadn't heard much about him or his music, save for the super popular songs. I learned a lot and am happy he's able to do what he loves doing for people.
This was perfect. Thank you.
😍Woah great!! That was impressive documentation! Very well done!
I love Andrew W.K.!!

@15:40 @22:59 @36:22 @39:28 @43:48
I love this guy. Best concert of my life. Was a part of a mosh-merry-go-round where the inner circle and outer circle was all high-fiving. Right when I needed his concert, I went. Was like a year's worth of therapy. I'd see this guy weekly if I could.
Great work in encapsulating what Andrew is all about. I,,I, ,I,,I
