Discover the culinary nostalgia in "20 Middle-Class Foods That VANISHED From The Dinner Table!" This video takes you back to the 1950s to 1980s USA, exploring 20 iconic meals and dinners that were once staples for middle-class families but have since disappeared from the dinner table.
Think it’s funny how many ofthese I had in my childhood at all my friends’ houses and my own and I make for my family. None of these are gone or declining!
Exactly.
Exactly what I was thinking also. I still make or buy a lot of these things. One reason they are no longer popular is because families rarely make meals and eat together... secondly, people want quick and easy meals. A lot of Gen Z are ordering fast food and having it delivered via Door Dash. They don't even go get it. Very unhealthy.
I must be living in the past as I have most of these dishes for supper quite often!
Most of these are still alive and well in Canada haven’t gone anywhere. Yes there are always new fads but these have not died. Brush up on your research. They are classics for a reason❤
Why does meatloaf get so much hate? Its so good!
If you don't make it right, it can be dry. I would only eat my maternal grandmother's meatloaf and I learned her technique.
We make at least one of these meals at least once a week in our house. Most of them are not costly, are very tasty, and are easy to modify to our individual tastes. I would hardly say that they have "vanished!"
None of these have vanished. Try doing a little research or at least get out of whatever big city your in.
Do you feel better now?😊
Exactly. 😂
So true, none of these have vanished, what's vanished is the skill to cook in America, especially since microwaves were invented by NASA. If you want them back just learn how to cook and stop reheating what's in a can.
Yes, you are right.🧐 However, for some unknown reason they discontinued my very favorite "Hamburger Helper BEEF STEW"! Why did they do that??😱🤔
@@CharlieChilders-wm9gb probably the same reason they stopped selling the quart sized cardboard cans of soup starters, processing dehydrated chunks of vegetables cost too much for the amount of packaging needed. Everything is smaller for profits today because corporations only care about shareholders today.
I eat a lot of these still everyday
Me to.😂
Enjoyed the throwback; still make and eat a lot of these foods. I was just thinking that back when these foods were popular and mostly made from scratch, that people weren't horribly obese. Now that so many foods are processed with chemicals, we aren't that healthy and have put on pounds.
Yup! Because they are quicker and easier. They come frozen. Plus, kids don't play outside much any more. Gen Z just orders fast food and has it delivered via Door Dash a lot of the time.
Buy organic and avoid GMO. I've noticed that people from other countries aren't fat like Americans. That's because GMOs are frowned upon in other places. The US can't even sell corn to Mexico because they don't want our GMOs ruining their heritage corn varieties. Think about that... then think of all the additives in food and the high incidence of cancer especially among children.
@@chiarac3833 problem is also labeling. Not everything that is labeled as "organic" is actually what most people think "organic" should be. Food producers have found sneaky ways to get around requirements.
@@xx_Joker_xx that's why most packages should be avoided.
There vanishing because the middle class is vanishing. Hamburger Helper at one time considered poor mans food. You would get this in food pantries and if you were lucky enough to get a can of chili, you had dinner to feed the kids.
Pork and beans have disappeared?! ROFLMAO, I saw a whole section in the grocery store full of numerous brands of the stuff
No Campbell's Pork and Beans.
My Niece in-law makes scalloped potatoes and ham
I still cook most of these today. They haven't vanished.
I feel like chicken tonight like chicken tonight
Boy, was that an earworm!! But the sauces themselves were pretty good.
Vanished? Where do you get your statistics from? An old phone book? Lots of us out here are cooking these dishes today in 2024. With the cost of food sky-high due to inflation, these are economical and still very much popular.
I can't understand why this video is constantly off the mark.
what that mean?
@@MikeLutton It's saying the video is wrong about a lot. A lot of the foods in the video are still eaten a lot
@Aeroxima oh ok I was going to say the same think
To drive up engagement….
Hamburger helper was one of my favorites grown up. Still is to this day manwitches too
This Channel is Making me Hungry
Shepherds Pie is delicious.
I still love Hamburger Helper, Hormel Chili, beef stroganoff, TV-dinner salisbury steaks, chicken-a-la-king, Underwood deviled ham, spaghetti with meat sauce, and tuna & noodles (only made with chicken instead). Also Beefaroni and Spaghetti-O's. Every week to ten days my wife will make something for dinner that she loves but I hate. Then I enjoy one of these guilty pleasures. I especially like to torment her with a Hormel chili-cheese dog because she says the chili looks and smells like vomit. (Remember the chunky soup scene from "The Great Santini"?)
This is another video of foods from the past that I have eaten at one time
over the years as a kid onward thanks for the delicious memories.
😋🥙🥘🥗🍛😋
These foods haven't vanished... Homemakers have disappeared because of the need for two-family incomes.
I've never eaten hamburger helper. My mother didn't buy that sort of thing. Never had pasta sauce from a jar either.
Don't take long to disappear at dinner time.
Ahhhh, Hamburger Helper, the Ostinato of food.
Still love egg foo yung!
Vanished?? I eat most of these! lol
Many of these dishes are coming back into prominence because the increasing steep price of going out to eat.
The Middle Class has vanished in America but if any of these foods have disappeared it's only because people simply can't afford to eat these days.
Must be living under a rock? If you think these meals don't exist in middle class families anymore?😂
Everyone knows that the Frito Pie is a New Mexico tradition started and made famous at the Woolworth's lunch counter at the Town Plaza in Santa Fe, NM.
Yes, texas (texans) have tried to take credit for it. But history doesn't change just because someone wants it to. 🙂
Remember, the only way to do it right is with either red or green NEW MEXICO chile made from NEW MEXICO green or red chiles.
"tex-mex"??? uh, no. 😀
i Still Eat Chef Boy Ar dee foods actually a lot love their Lasagna
I guess spaghetti is a deadly poison now.
This is a channel to shame people on how they eat
What is a lighter healthier food ?
Bah!!! I make quite a few of these. They're disappearing because people are getting lazier and don't want to put in the time.

What do you think Americans are eating😂 this is a ridiculous list
One cup of Hamburger Helper has something like 40% of the recommended sodium. Not a good choice.
Cabbage rolls taste like dog food what an embarrassment 😳
