  • Join us live for the marquee sale of Master Paintings and Sculpture, which is led by Botticelli’s arresting Man of Sorrows, a seminal masterpiece of the Florentine artist’s late career. Also coming under the hammer are two incredibly important rediscoveries by other leading Italian Renaissance artists, Correggio and Andrea del Sarto, as well as a beautiful, early work by Giovanni Bellini. Highlights by Northern artists include a captivating panel by Peter van Mol and a jewel-like still-life by Adriaen Coorte; highlights by Spanish artists include a late example by El Greco and a luminous canvas by Murillo; highlights by French artists include an enchanting portrait by Largilliere and a monumental still life by Anne Vallayer-Coster.

Der billionaire, who bought the Botticelli, would you please hang the painting in a gallery for us to see? We have good taste, but could not afford the piece. Hopefully it won’t end up in a vault for decades to come, just to increase in price. Thank you

This auction would have much more watchable if you had used a British auctioneer, this guy was really annoying!

The buyer overpaid for the Bottecilli (buying for the name not the quality) but whoever got the two portraits by Pickenoy got a bargain. Same with Lot 34, Ribera's portrait of St. Joseph was a steal at $140,000.

And an Andrea del Sarto’ s portrait at 1,8 is incredible! The most beautiful painting in the auction.. also if I don t know the condition report.

    It's all about the name.
There are better artists out there today who would walk all over these renaissance painters.
If you want "Man of Sorrows" in your home then buy a decent poster online; and the cost is a little more realistic.
Owning the original is no big deal.
