Whilst I'm appreciative of the love given to the climate entity UI, we still need a much cleaner way to assign schedules to it - a programmable thermostat is probably the most useful home automation yet it is still really challenging to achieve in Home Assistant.
Yes! I have a Hive setup and whilst the integration works fine, it would be great to move the scheduling under HA control. I don’t fancy implementing a convoluted automation, which is what I’d have to do right now I think. (It would be nice to manage the Hive cloud schedule in HA instead of HA “running” it, but I can see that being a load of work which is no benefit to other heating systems)
@@lawrencemanning I'd just like HA to enable the creation of a programmable thermostat functionality - I was excited by the new scheduler a few releases back but it's just binary on/off - you can't assign temperature targets to time slots. You also have to 'join' the climate to the schedule via na automation rather than just selecting it from the climate control card.
Scheduling in HA is the pits for anything, let alone climate. A third-party add-on via HACS like Simple Scheduler vastly improves it, but it's going to be somewhat messy to have climate schedules mixed in to the same list as anything else you have scheduled.
The idea with home assistant is automation over scheduling. Try setting up automations that work on rules such as x y are home, it's 1830 set heating temps to 21deg, else keep at 15deg.
@@Paul_Munro Automations and schedules are not mutually exclusive - heating often has to be scheduled - eg underfloor heating often takes 2-3hrs to come up to temperature so would be chilly unless you have a very long commute 🙂 A schedule can/should be supplemented with automations.
The SwitchBot Cloud integration is to support a wifi only plug only sold in Japan and add the support of the hub infra red functions. For now, it only supports on/off.

I have a CT50 by Radio Thermostats and I want to make it run the fan for x minutes per y hours. Still cannot figure this out. Yes I am a programming dummy.
Having SwitchBot cloud support also means being able to control devices in another physical location. Don't know how much that use case will be useful, but having options is always nice.
I've been using the Tailscale integration in HA for nearly two years. This allows you to access your HA from remote locations over the Internet. It's also encrypted end to end, same as a VPN. I can connect from anywhere with my phone using the HA app to monitor and control all my devices.
@@timredd I'm not saying there aren't other ways to enable remote "local" integration, but I'm sure there are plenty of people who don't want to figure out VPN or SD-WAN systems just to control some lights or curtains. Like I said, more options is better than fewer options. If someone would rather use a cloud service instead of learning network engineering as a hobby, they should be able to do that.
Hi Lewis! How is the "Year of the Voice" going so far? My smart home project got delayed so I'm not able to check for myself for now! Is it easy now to interract with Home Assistant by voice locally? Cheers :)
Nah ,I just wanted to implement it as well and it is a convoluted mess with no clear easy path to install. I wish it would be an itegration called local voice support or such .Instead you have to install like 5 things ,not clear which one does what exactl yand how do they integrate which each other, and read tomes of documents which leaves you juut as confused as before. Gave up and will revisit later when I have a freee weekend to play. Besides with no Bluetoth speaker support and some sort of wireless mike I don't see how any of the stuff that exists even would work for those that have the HA pc stuffed in a proper closet out of view. Would love for for soemeone to prove me wrong .
@@netblue the real issue for me is the connection to the likes of Alexa or Google Assistant. There's no easy way to keep your regular assistant, and then pass through commands like "Alexa, tell Home Assistant...". Instead on like an Android phone you can replace Google Assistant with Home Assistant as the default, but whilst you then have the ability to control your home, you lose the functionality of Google Assistant using the wake word
@ViaNocturna85 Fair. I Can't personally think of a use case to pass voice commands to Alexa or Google Home at all 😀 .They both are much slower to respond even natively ( I guess maybe to ask the weather or news) .I got the HA local voice to work ,only 2 integrations to jnstall and tts is straight forward though it has duplicate settings but quality of voices is not great ( being super generous here ) compared to the cloud one ( Nabu casa) . I would say it is still experimental and incipent. Give it another year.
Thanks so much for all your effort on this, I have one issue and I wonder if you could assist me. When I tried to configure an automation script for example. Play media on my Amazon Echo when an alarm is triggered. In the process of creating the script: In the "Action" tab ---> "select media". When I select my Amazon Echo device, I get this message: "Media player does not support browsing media", I don't have the option to select the media file media I have placed in the media folder. Any idea why I am not seeing the option to select the media file? Thank You Kwame
Nice update. Do you have a Pi5 video planned? I'd really like to see how it runs Supervised alongside a dashboard app or similar that doesn't require a paid subscription.
What fan are you using that has those presets? I need a fan with "TURBO!" And having "Fan go brrrr" would certainly be a nice to have during those hot summer months.
Well ,I would agree it is quite unstable if not rebooted weekly for sure ,sometimes twice a week. Some integrations or devices stop working randomly. Just think of it as Windows 2.0 ,or 95 if you want to be generous. I depends on the numer of integrations and devices. I see the same thing and the rebooting thing works.
@@CarAudioInc thanks for your comment, yes from now on I don’t update anything and will try to not restart HA! Not sure what your referring to here sorry? There is literally nothing you HAVE to use a cloud subscription on HA for. You can, but in no way are you forced to
Some features are made a bit easier with Nabu Casa but all of them can be done without it. In fact I have the subscription but my HA has evolved beyond it and I don't even use the features anymore, just consider it a kind of Patreon to support the HA team.
