This was a very well done tutorial. I had tried before on Mac and Linux with some other tutorials but always failed. Finally I’ve got it on my phone and it’s working. I truly appreciate the clarity of your video, Great Job!!!!
Next question: On an "unlocked" purchased phone: Before installing Calyx. I went to my Verizon carrier to retire a clamshell and replace it with the Google Pixel 5a 5g maintaining my original phone number. Does it matter if the original Google sim or the Verizon sim is in the phone when I install Calyx?
Hello, I'm trying to install this on a 4a and I'm stuck on the Install stage. My phone is in fastboot mode and it shows up under device manager as Android Device-->Android Bootloader Interface I then run the installer and this error comes up, "No devices to be flashed, exiting". Does the phone need to be in fastboot mode before starting the installer or do I need to boot the phone back into the OS and then connect it via usb before running the installer? Any guidance is appreciated.
Thanks man, excellent presentation. Can you also make a video on how to revert back to original OS for pixels, incase we decide to sell it? Thansk again.
I did the full install on my pixel 6 and it seemed to be succesful, until I relocked the bootloader and tried to start the new os. It is now stuck flicking between a google screen then to an error screen saying I am trying to load a different operating system and then back to the google screen
@@jameslhuillier7593 I would try reinstalling it again and see how it works. You might need to wait for it to get our of beta, especially with the Pixel 6. GrapheneOS works well on the 6 if you want to give that a try for now.
I ran the flasher, and the screen that showed up on the video isn't coming up for me... and the "unlock bootloader" never comes up or anything. On my phone's screen, on the "product revision" section it says "sunfish MP1.0(NA) which means it's at least reading the OS. But my bootloader is still locked so.... I don't know what to do.
🤣 I've learned this far in my life with computers that 95% of the time it's either the antivirus or your firewall. Glad you got it working without malwarebytes notifying you haha
From what I understand, devices bought from Verizon cannot unlock the bootloader. My question is what about a phone that can run on Verizon, ATT and T Mobile? Would that also have locked bootloader since it runs on Verizon? Or would it be unlocked because it can use all of them?
You're correct. If it's a "Verizon" branded Pixel you cannot unlock the bootloader and install an alternate OS. What carrier can be used is a separate topic. I have an unlocked pixel that uses Verizon for mobile service, any supported carrier can be used.
@@sideofburritos ok, so it seems like the "branding" is the key. I have a Pixel 2 with no carrier branding that runs on Verizon, but I was able to unlock the bootloader and install CalyxOS. Thanks for your reply.
@@abdielortiz316 Hey! It should work even from 12, but I haven't tried that with Calyx. That might be worth a shot. Does your phone support OEM unlocking?

That's incorrect. For Verizon branded Pixels, you cannot. It's impossible, even with adb. The phone needs to check in with Google by sending the serial, and if it's not authorized to enable OEM unlocking, you won't be able to.
@@sideofburritos okay, my bad then. I haven't tried the method i watched. I just watched it again. He was undoing a SIM lock to Verizon to another carrier. Ugh. Well, i have 6GB RAM, 128 mem Google 4xl coming. Another vid i watched was about a Google phone w/OEM greyed out, and how he reset it through using adb. He said, might not work on Verizon 🤷 Verizon sucks, but it's the best working service in North Idaho
Ah, as far as service goes you should be able to use any carrier. Even if you bought a Pixel directly from Google (the unlocked version), you could use a Verizon SIM card in the device without issues. For my personal device, I have an unlocked Pixel I purchased directly from Google and I use Visible (which is Verizon's budget service offering) and it works flawlessly.
@@sideofburritos 👍 Verizon is the only one that works well in the sticks😅 It's the locked bootloader that bums me out. I thought there'd be an exploit by now🙁 This is the only phone i haven't rooted
Finally downgraded back to Android 11 successfully. Thanks God! 12 was ugly, bombing and untested. As a previous iPhone user I can’t have that. Everything locked down again, working properly and auto updates removed. Until 12 is proven and looking sharp, I’m staying away!
@@sideofburritos pixel 3a. On 12 when I updated apps they broke. Newpipe always showed an error. Everything is stable again in 11 plus the UI is much cleaner. I’ll wait until they fix 12 properly.
