What we did was turn the water and electric off for 3 days and then made a list of everything we couldn't use and what alternatives we're. We refrained from going out to eat during that time or using someone else things and that got us started. It won't give everything but it did opened our eyes and gave us a really good starting point.

      That’s a great idea!
We learned the hard way when after winter ended so did our guarantee to not have our power turned off. (Yes- we were paying but it was so high it was not enough), and my husband was layed off. We went through most of the summer without power. Five of our six kids were still living at home so we really learned a lot. It’s doable if you have what you need. Generator, wood stove, etc. it’s just a bit of a pain but you get into a groove. I almost didn’t care if it was turned back on (can’t say the same for my teenagers, lol).

I found a plain white cotton sheet cut in strips works way better for injuries than the stuff you get at the drug store. My son injured his toe & the store wraps caused it to have a green puss and wouldn't heal. I cleaned cotton sheets without soap(tiny bit bleach) rinsed twice and dried (no dryer sheets) His toe healed very fast w/ using sheets. The cotton pulls the moisture away from you skin. My two cents from a mom.

Now, to have a talk with my adult children.
We invited nearly my entire FB friends list over for bbq and talk on topics this past week. 10 came which was my goal for our 1st event. We talked prepping and many of that group had some good input.

Nero Pero ... I suggest that you get some decent portable radios in case the internet and electricity fail. I recommend getting these: The Sony ICF-P26, P36 and the Tecsun R-9012. These are old school analog transistor radios with very good AM (and shortwave too on the Tecsun) reception and these have absolutely incredible battery life....well over 100 hours using two AA batteries. The Sony is decent on FM too but not the Tecsun.
AM radio signals can be heard up to 1000 miles away at night allowing you to get news and info from a large region. If you want great FM radio get something digital. Digital radios use up batteries fast though. See todderbert RUclips channel to help you decide what radio to get. The two I mentioned are inexpensive but work great. If you have a lot of money you might want something different.
I`m buying all the REAL analog radios I can find due to their excellent battery life. But most of the cheap "analog" style radios sold use a digital DSP chip which reduces battery life and makes it hard to tune and listen to the weaker signals on the AM band. FM is generally good on these radios though.
If you want to listen to HAM radio on shortwave the Tecsun PL 880 is good but it uses a rechargeable battery. CCrane makes a small pocket sized radio called the Skywave that uses two AA batteries that gets aircraft and weather bands too and they have a version that uses SSB to tune in HAMs. It costs nearly $200.00 though. The regular version costs $89.00 plus shipping and tax.

I’m exactly 22. Thankfully I’ve got all 5 down. I’ll add a 6th though. GET IN SHAPE mentally and physically. Stop playing video games because they won’t help you prepare or acclimate to the “new normal”. Make sure you can run a mile in under 10 minutes. See how long you can walk with 40 pounds on your back. Push your limits. Even if the “new normal” never happens, you’ll come out of it a better, stronger person. God bless, from Indiana.

"Where There Is No Doctor, a village health care handbook" by David Werner is a good book to have on hand. "Field Guide to Edible Wild Plants" by Bradford Angier is another book I have had in my stash for many years. The "Foxfire" books also. Seed saving books, basic canning book, outdoor skills books, etc. Having hard copies of books, articles printed off of the internet, and journal notes of things you have learned about over time, skills, step by step information... is also a helpful thing to have...in case something happens and you aren't around. Your children and grandchildren will have a reference guide.

Military field manuals are handy as well. Tons of them available that aren't classified and you can get them as ebooks for free. You can print them out (a lot are in pdf). And/or, as I've done, use a couple (redundancy is good) of your old phones or tablets with extra memory in them. Also, buy SEVERAL solar chargers for them. If you need to bug out in a hurry, it's much easier to carry a couple cell phones and solar chargers than actual books.

  • @lindalovejoy6360

One day we had an ice storm and the power went out for 10 days. We had no heat, light, no way to cook, and no sewer. Fortunately we are campers so we knew how to use the fireplace. Getting used to pooping in a bucket was a new experience, but it prepared me for the lifestyle I chose in retirement.
Watch some of the van life/nomad videos. Those folks have a lot of ingenuity and they're living in a lot smaller space than an apartment. Most have solar, they have small woodburning stoves, they know how to insulate their vehicles, they can be "stealthy", they stay mentally strong, etc. (Also watch bushcrafter videos, then go outside and try the ideas.)
I'm 70 years old and have lived in my van for 6 months at a time. I can build a fire, cook on a fire box, poop in a bucket, sterilize rainwater (finally bought a Berkey), and hike up a mountain. Planning wisely I can take enough food to eat healthy for 6 months. Summers I go "home" to see my family, work the family farm, dehydrate food and prepare for the winter. I actually enjoy my life more being self sufficient than I ever did working behind a desk as a "city slicker".

      You are correct.
Prepping can be seen as wise but without God's Only Begotten Son, Jesus the Christ, as our personal Savior,
no amount of stored up food or ammo will save your eternal soul.
      And for others,
God has placed us just where HE wants us,
in the middle of battle and tragedy,
      not in a safe bunker
      or out in the woods.
      WHY?
*We* are God's hands, feet, and voice on this planet.
      When "it" hits the fan,
God will USE everyday people, perhaps also in distress,
*to carry out HIS work among the LOST and the hurting.*
We are called to be Christian soldiers,
      *wherever* God has placed us,
      according to *HIS* purposes.

I understand this thing seems like it’s being drug out and taking too long, but going and demanding action that is already in progress seems like unnecessary drama to me(just my opinion). Hopefully everyone will keep a cool head and nobody gets hurt. I’m positive that a greater evil is at work in our country and worldwide. That evil wants us divided. A divided population is easier to conquer and control. Would be nice if we all took the side of humanity, and not divide ourselves into groups based on demographics, because to fight the real evil that is tearing us apart will take everyone. The real tyrants are the globalists. If we as a population are fighting amongst ourselves, they win. Stay safe, keep prepping, and god bless.

But remember, a cashless society may or may not be the mark of the beast. Jesus has promised to return to earth and bring his believers home BEFORE the event of the mark of the beast! The great thing about turning to God and calling on his name is he will not let you experience the decision of whether you will need to accept or deny the mark of the beast. If you deny, you will reign with God for 1,000 years - (but there will be few) - if you accept the mark - you will spend eternity in hell - the bible teaches us this.

.20 guage or .410 is gonna get the job done. There are plenty of old inexpensive single and double barrel shotguns in pawn shops and estate sales. Shotgun is the modern day musket. You can hunt with it and defend the homestead. They are easy to use and very dependable. You don't need a fully rigged out tacticool pump gun. The old "just the sound of the pump will scare them away" is bunk. The problem at this stage of the game is ammo - that is a whole 'nother soap box...

  • @Laurie_Tinsley
    @Laurie_Tinsley 4 года назад

One of my most precious survival assets is my flock of chickens. They provide continuous food ( eggs are high in protein ), fertilizer for the garden, bug control, and can feed themselves by letting them open range if you run out of chicken feed. Make sure you have at least one rooster for every 8 hens so you/they can reproduce new flocks. Having a shotgun or rifle is extremely important, when the food runs out you will have to hunt for your food, not to mention they are needed for protection. If there are no guns for sell in your area...check out the auctions that are going on around you. That is how we bought most of our guns and ammo.
If you can buy a wood burning stove, DO IT! Get it installed in your home asap. You dont have to use it unless SHTF. You will be thankful you have it if SHTF.
Learn to cann your garden veggies. I just canned 40 pounds of potatoes the other day. Canning is easy and there are lots of YT videos available on canning . Make notes/recipe cards on how to cann your veggies so you have the info in case the grid goes down. You can cann meats, soups, etc too
Learn to grow a garden and stock up on seeds. I have enough seeds to last 3 years. I store them in a dark, dry, cool place in ziplock baggies. In the back of the pantry or a kitchen drawer works fine for storing them.
Buy some good prepper books....Ball Canning book, medical first aid books, survival books, etc.
If you run out of toilet paper after SHTF you can use washclothes to wipe with. Buy a few cheap packages of washcloths at Walmart to have on hand. Buy a lot of Fels-Nappa laundry soap bars, wash tub and a wash board so you can do laundry if there is no running water or electric. Stock up on dish soap for your dirty dishes
Stock up on shampoo, soap, toothpaste, deodorant and other toiletries. Stock up on cold medicines, band aids, alcohol, neosporin, tylenol, ibuprofen, aspirin.
If you buy canned food ( and you should stock up on plenty of it ) dont forget to buy a manually operated ( old fashioned ) can opener. Buy a good quality one. The cheap ones dont last long and there is nothing more frustrating then trying to open a can with a knife and a hammer. Electric can openers wont work when the grid goes down.
Buy a few oil lamps and stock up on lamp oil and extra wicks. Having light in the house when the electric goes out will be a blessing, especially in the winter time when the daylight hours are short. Buy a good flashlight and stock up on batteries for it. You can still find barn lanterns ( the ones that use lamp oil ) at auctions and maybe at walmart. Look in the camping area.
Get a couple of cast iron skillets that you can use to cook over an open fire or on the grill. You can also use them on a wood burning stove if it has a cook top.
Buy some of the old fashioned yard tools, you know...they ones that dont take electric or gas. A shovel, hoe, etc. You will need them to grow your garden if SHTF.
If you live out in the country or if your community allows it...start raising your own livestock. Pigs, chickens, cows and even goats will provide meat. Learn how to butcher them. Cows and chickens are the easiest to raise. They can literally feed their selves. In the winter when there is snow on the ground you may have to barter with a farmer that sells hay.
Buy items to barter with....Whiskey, beer, cigarettes, cigars, extra canned food, toilet paper, etc. Have a bartering stash available. If you are a smoker make sure to stock up on your cigarettes, etc. or better yet...try to quit smoking.
I could go on and on...Just think about what you do and need on a daily basis and stock up on it.

Yes indeed HS! I make food for my cats and feel the Lord gave me the idea to make a few batches of it, dehydrate it and vacuum seal it. It worked out great and they like it! Also loaded up on the dry and vacuum sealed a bunch of it too.

Easy outhouse; Dig hole 7 feet deep. take two 55 gallon barrel drums. cut out end and weld together. cut or shoot a bunch of hole in sides. Bury in ground and set you out house on top. This simple design will last for years as long as the drainage is good.

Open up 12ga bird shot (1 1/8 oz), melt the shot in an old soup can, pour the melted lead into makeshift 00 size mold (or buy a 00 mold from lee) put the buck shot back in the shell and re-crimp. It will be easy to re-crimp by hand if you don't open the original crimp too much. Slugs can be made similarly.
Walmart bulk 12ga works fine for this (less than $25 for 100). I prefer the Federal over the Winchester.

*PREPPERISMS: The following list isn't meant to be an exhaustive list of Prepper knowledge, just inspiration.*
*"MORE YOU KNOW, LESS YOU NEED"*
Skills are more valuable than stuff. So seek to acquire as many practical skills & knowledge as is available because they can't be easily lost, stolen or broken. Another way to look at it is "the more you know the _lighter_ your load". Next, _PRACTICE_ now what you learn because "Effective Learning is Curvy!"*
*"TWO is ONE & ONE is NONE"*
Because stuff gets lost, broken, stolen, so have backups to your backups of essentials like 2 knives, 2 lighters, etc.
    *"RULE of 3"*
You can die after 3 seconds of indecision during a fatal threat (predetermine reasonable losses) 3 minutes without air (practice freediving) 3 hours of exposure to extreme weather (practice hydrotherapy to enhance body thermo-regulation) 3 days without water (practice economy of movement & water fasting) 3 weeks without food (practice fasting) 3 months without a long term plan (because seasons change) 3 years without a partner/team (screen members now) 3 decades without reproduction (new generation is necessary)
    *FOUR SELF-DEFENSE*
    EVASION (head-on-a-swivel; become a "Grayman")
PERSUASION (humble negotiation; See Negotiation in "Seven Heaven Skills" below)
DEFENSE (if evasion/persuasion fails, target their eyes, throat, ears, groin, knees, feet then escape; resilience & tenacity can outstrip strength & speed)
DEFENSIVE TOOL (firearms may be common but it may be wise to consider a concealable range defense with low maintenance & not dependent on manufactured ammo, such as a baseball bat, adjustable walking staff/cane, crowbar, bullwhip, slingshot, etc)
    *FIVE to SURTHRIVE!*
True, we should all be prepared to survive without energy/electricity or public water. But creating energy & water off-grid means more than just surviving, but it's thriving!
SOLAR POWER SYSTEM: solar panels, battery bank, inverter
WIND GENERATOR: wind turbine, battery bank, inverter.
HANDCRANK GENERATOR: gear ratio allows just one person to turn a handle & generate power.
COMBO GENERATOR: generator that combines as many of the sources mentioned above.
DEHUMIDIFIER: can pull water right out of the air!
PROs: Solar & Wind power can be increased by adding more panels, turbines, or batteries.
Handcrank can also be hooked up to a bicycle & is never dependent on the weather but can generate electricity 24/7.
Dehumidifier (large free standing room model) can provide upto 8 gallons of water per day (depending on humidity level in your area) even in a tiny little apartment.
CONs: No sun or wind, or human fatigue may limit power. Dehumidifiers are useless without electricity & if the air is contaminated be prepared to filter the water before drinking. Inevitably things will require maintenance & repair so mechanical/electrical/electronic skills will be valuable.
    *SIX SHIELDED SHELTER*
_"Watchout With Wetty, Windy, Warmy, Wiggly, Wicky & Widow-makers!"_
Build a shelter where it's high & dry above "wetty" during rain, but close to a "wetty" source to stay hydrated; where "windy" is blocked when it's cold, but allow "windy" when hot; where fire wood keeps you "warmy" when cold, but shaded from "warmy" when hot; where you're off the ground away from "wiggly" critters & off a "wicky" cold ground; & not under "widow-maker" dead trees/limbs that could fall on you. Remember, you need something to sleep under, to sleep on & to sleep in.
    *SEVEN HEAVEN SKILLS*
RUclips "How to" videos for these force multipliers & practice daily/wkly:
    LEARNING/REMEMBERING (attention=retention, repetition=recall, adaptability=survivability)
HABIT CREATION (uses cues, craving, routine, reward; success is the compound interest of effective habits)
MEDITATION (enhances attention span, pain & stress management)
HEALTH (Eat better but less; Move more often & faster; Hygiene your machine by keeping clean)
    FASTING (autophagy & strengthens self-control/self-discipline)
FIRST-AID/TRAUMA (YOU are your "first responder", practice M.A.R.C.H. algorithm)
NEGOTIATION (reading body language, micro expressions, listening, psychology, persuasive language patterns, bartering)
    *EIGHT PREP RATE*
Acquire EVERYTHING to survive an entire short period first, before getting more stuff for a longer period because you do NOT want to have a year's worth of water but only 1wk of food & no medical supplies when everything collapses!
1ST: 1 week of water (1gal per person per day), 1 week of food (pre-cooked non-perishable), medical supplies, 1 week of hygiene supplies, 1 week of etc, etc.
2ND: enhance home security & security protocols
3RD: 3 months of water, food, etc
4TH: enhance transportation options (bicycle, trike, cart, dollie, etc), dependability & security protocols
5TH: Bug-Out-Bag Myth that bugging out is your first option? NO! Despite the fact that sheltering-in-place is optimum, we never know when we may be forced to bug-out, so it's "Better To Have It & Not Need It, Than Need It & Not Have It". Next, double up on equipment because, "Two is One & One is None".
6TH: 6 mos mix of seeds & more water, food, etc (heirloom Non-GMO seeds are greater than gold)
7TH: Self-Sustainable Sustenance, food production (study & practice gardening/small animal farming [chickens, meat rabbits, etc])
8TH: Priority Faith to pray for wisdom & humility to answer "If I only had enough time/money to acquire just one more thing/skill before a collapse what would it be?"
*_The beginner should just strive to survive without electricity for 72hrs. Eventually, over time, if you are able to survive a nuclear attack, then you can most likely survive every other kind of disaster. Remember, "prepping" (being prepared) is not an event, it's a lifestyle._*
    *NINE CORE MEMBERS*
Anyone opposed to your core Principles & Purposes of life should NOT be in your intimate group!
    GUARDIAN (Security, safety)
HEALER (doctor, medic, nurse, therapist, herbalist)
    PROVIDER (hunts, forages, scavenges)
TINKERER (engineer, scientist, mechanic, handyman, tradesman, etc)
FARMER (reproduces animal/plant food; "When you can feed yourself, you can free yourself!")
CLERK (organizes supplies, equipment, tasks, training, etc)
CAREGIVER (domestic [cooking, cleaning, laundry, etc], counselor, teacher/babysitter)
LEADER (empathetically unemotional, logical, negotiator; will emerge as core group is established)
CHAMELEON (quick learner, adaptable, willing to change positions & either already has or studies other skills not listed here)
*_All skills should be cross trained._*
    *B.O.B. (BUG OUT BAG)*
_(Don't confuse this with smaller "Go-bag/Get-Home-Bag" you keep in a vehicle)_
Without compromising quality, get the lightest weight versions of the following items & choose multifunction tools to keep total pack weight to 20% or less of a healthy person's body weight. Bare minimum examples are included below but there are always better items so do your own research. Remember, best survival items are the ones you already have & know how to use, & the more you know the lighter your load, so learn ways to improvise equipment/tools in the field & practice with what you have. Hanging on the outside of the B.O.B. have a small bag of "survival pocket litter" that you will empty into your pants/jacket pockets & onto your belt & try include at least one item from each of the following catagories, just in case you get separated from your B.O.B.
CONTAINER: Collapsible 1liter plastic water bottle or metal capped canister; water is 8lbs per gallon, so in addition to having some initial water on you, the ability to filter discovered water while on the move will be vital to keeping you hydrated & your load light so consider a mini-Sawyer water filter).
CUTTING: Knife (3/16" thick, full tang), Multi-tool with folding knife, saw, screwdriver set, scissors, awl, can & bottle opener, & pliers.
COMBUSTION: lighters, ferro rods, fresnel lens (magnifying glass), tinder, candle, flashlight, headlamp, etc.
    CORDAGE: rope/paracord/duct tape
COVERING: Heavy duty plastic tarp 6x8, 55gal plastic drum liners or sleeping bag, hammock tent, 2 pair socks, 2 underwear, 2 undershirts (avoid cotton, cotton kills), long-sleeved shirt/pull over hoodie, pants (not shorts), gloves, face mask, bandana/shemagh, mosquito netting, hat, boots, light rain jacket w/hood (unless you live in a region that is cold more than ⅓ of the year do not pack a heavy winter coat, but just layer up all clothing when cold & insulate with plastic/rain poncho), avoid camouflage because it's not "Grayman"
CARE: First-Aid/Trauma kit (tourniquet, compression bandages, assortment of guaze, medications, etc); Hygiene (comb, 3 hand towels/rags, toothbrush, toenail clippers, sewing needles & upholstery thread)
    CONSUMPTION: Food (pre-cooked non-perishable -MREs/jerky) & Fishing/Hunting tools (fish/gill net, snare wire, hooks,string&weights, slingshot, crossbow)
COMMUNICATIONS: Whistle, handcrank/solar AM/FM radio w/weather stations; walkie talkie, CB or ham radio, Topo Maps (local&state) & Compass; Energy (charger cords, handcrank/solar charger, batteries)
CREDENTIALS: (pin note on B.O.B. reminding you to get these before leaving) birth certificate, passport, marriage license, house & car keys.
CASH: Initially cash money will still be King; pocket sized barter items (small packets of non-perishable food, instant coffee packets, sample bottles of liquor, gold/silver chain, candy/gum)
CRAFTING: Axe/Machete, Folding/bow/wire saws, Clawbar 10" (doubles as hammer &key to city), Self-adjusting wrench, Locking pliers, MultiBit Screwdriver &Nut Driver, Electrical wire stripper.
CREATIVE: playing cards, harmonica (can scare off predators), pocket bible, SAS Survival Guide.
*_"But what if nothing happens?"_** It's okay to be wrong, just don't be dead wrong & prepare now!*
*Liberty=Peace & in the name of my Savior Jesus Christ I pray to his father, Almighty God Jehovah, that we always enjoy both!*

    Dear Pastor Joe Fox,
about EDC I suggest following items as you cannot replace by skills:
    (1) Sewing needles with a BIG eye of the needle (because of old eyes ..) => Amazon ..
(Sewing needles (and fine but strong yarn) are almost impossible to make by yourself, if we go back to "Mad Max" they will be worth ...)
    - stick TWO needles in the velcro of your gear
    (2) Dental floss (without taste / odor) for
    - sewing cloth and gear ( you can color it with permant marker)
    - sewing wounds (closed container => clean)
    - fishing line
    - and last but not last dental flossing ...
    (3) Mix 95% alcohol and Iodine (3/4 +1/4) put it in an "eye drop" bottle
    - to disinfect the smalest scratch IMMEDIATLY and on the go
(in Taiwan it sprouts where you spit..)
    (4) Credit card size fresnel lense for plan B => "reading glasses" and
to make fire => Amazon ...
    (5) Tweezers

Approximately 2 months ago, I was praying at around 5: 00 in the morning, and the Lord showed me the stock market was going to be violently shaken. ( Note: I have no stock holdings...and I was not praying about this type of subject) Next, I saw multiple military helicopters to the south. He showed me a third picture but that one was personal , involving spiritual warfare. Within the past month, the Lord showed me several other things that I consider to be severe warnings. One was a vision of two fat hands with gold rings rubbing themselves in a greedy or plotting way. The next was a murky cup - it looked like rotten wine - being stirred by 'invisible hands'. I took this to mean a cup of wrath. The third was a column of black smoke in the distance rising to the highest part of the sky. A few days later, the Lord showed me three pictures of His kingdom. A living vine that had many branches/ positions vacant and ready to be grafted. A formation of small ants spread out in a grid formation that were carrying a large edible gourd. An open palm holding a hand full of seeds that looked almost like jewels. I believe the seeds were the word of God in the hands of the faithful. The last two things God showed me were this, very recently in the past two weeks.....I saw a mason jar lid that shone bright like pure gold, and it was enlarged as if it was a solid bar of gold. I also saw a picture of a hive of bees, with many worker bees flying in and bringing their harvest before winter. They were going into the entrance of the hive. I believe these are urgent messages from my Lord Jesus Christ.

One thing a lot of people forget about is that they need multiple ways to start a fire (for cooking and warmth). Matches are fine but they come in limited supplies and will eventually run out. Flint and steel is a good alternative and on clear days a good magnifying glass will work too. But you also need to think about what you are going to use as an initial fuel source. Wood shavings and kindling are okay buy for that you need an axe, a hatchet or a good knife (and a basic knowledge of first aide just in case). One of the hidden fuel supplies most people throw away is dryer lint. Keep it dry ant it will burn like there is no tomorrow.

I started last year and have 11 8x4 raised gardening beds. I tried square foot gardening this year. What a mess. Never do that again. For all the mistakes I made this year I've learned so much. By next year I hope to have a 12 month productive canning garden. This requires lots of herbs. People don't realize how much their food is seasoned.
