I have a 400sq ft apt, belongings of two, and still prepare. Soups, stews, canned fruits, veg will replace some water storage needs. Storage is under bed, couch, a tall rack in the living room, two shelves in a linen closet keeps it organized. It's easy to fit 40 gallons of water at any time, actually, just for drinking, nothing else. Baby wipes if I can't shower. It's doable, but feng shui...ok, that's a challenge.

Actually one of the Feng Shui cures is to put something reflective on/near your stove to reflect the bounty of food that you prepare for your family. So if your preps are neatly stored, put a mirror near them to "spiritually double" what you have. So unless your preps have turned your home into a hoarder's nightmare you should be ok. It's more about good intention and leaving enough space to allow the "Chi" to have room to flow around your preps.

Another suggestion for home security: a big dog, and/or a flock of geese. They make a lot of noise if someone is creeping around your house, and can be pretty menacing! Plus, if things get really dire, geese are delicious!
About seeds: order them from MIgardener. They are $2.00 per pack, and if you order 10 or more, you get free shipping. With the exception of a few of Luke’s favorite classic hybrids, they are all heirloom seeds. I have been growing seeds from MIgardener for years, and they perform very well. Their germination rate often exceeds that of seeds from other places that charge 3-4 times as much, and you get as many, if not more, seeds per package. They are also a small family business located in Michigan!

I used to do a lot of primitive tent camping and the restrooms were not available, for about a mile... Needless to say, at my age, that distance was not an option.

Heat your charcoal, then put some on the trash can, put your dutch oven on top, then add more glowing red charcoals on top of dutch oven lid. Leave to cook for awhile. There are charts with how many charcoal briquettes to use, for how long, to get whatever temperature you need. Works great, and the food is delicious!! We've baked pies and cobblers in there, too!

I'm in the middle of the aftermath of Hurricane Milton, The eye of the storm passed over just near here. We were evacuated and were happy to return to just minor home damage, no flooding. My garden is trashed, but oh well. We have no power, but being a prepper, I got my freezers and fridge running on a generator, and we can charge things. I'm set up as if I was on a comfortable camping trip (albeit without air conditioning in the FL heat). What really has struck me is how unprepared some of my neighbors were. My elderly neighbor was so thankful to charge her phone so she could call her out of state family. I asked her if she needed anything, and she said no. So I started rattling off things I could offer her. It hadn't even dawned on her that those things were possible! Now she's happy waiting for the power to be restored with our extra camping stove, propane, case of water, easy to cook food, a lantern, batteries, and a little radio to listen to. Prepping is very important. Please do what you can to be prepared for even just a prolonged power outage!

Just got power back after Milton (way faster than expected🎉) Every time my power goes down I am amazed at how much water we use. Not necessarily potable water but- cleaning, dishwashing, laundry. I continue with business as usual when the power is out because we never know how long it will be. Things get uncivilized and depressing fast if home and hygiene aren’t kept up with no power. Just my 2cents from someone whose power goes down once or twice a year.

    Things to know about radio:
    >Prime Entry Point (PEP) radio stations. There are 77 of them and they make up the IPAWS/emergency alert system. In the event of true SHTF or declared national emergency, these may very well be the only radio stations operating. If you search IPAWS radio stations, you should be able to find the list. I keep a handwritten copy in a small field book.
    >There's also a tier 2 PEP station candidate list. These are stations that were upgraded to PEP standards but were not added into the IPAWS network. They could very well still be operating should SHTF happen.
    >Clear channel radio stations. They operate at 50 KW with a directional antenna so they do not interfere with each other. They are designated class 1-A. Clear channel means any other station operating at the same frequency must power down at night so they do not interfere with the clear channel.
    >The two key stations everyone needs to know are 700 WLW out of Cincinnati and 850 KOA out of Denver. They are called blowtorches because these two stations could cover the entire lower 48 with their broadcasts under ideal conditions. This would be the case in an SHTF or national emergency situation

Decided I should eat stir-fry & did a HUGE, WM order. What was I thinking? I found myself patting bags of frozen veggies to try and fit them like a blanket into the veggie freezer.
Then I had a meat canning flurry followed by Prime days & WM Deals days.

The Dollar Tree has shower curtains that could be used like a tarp to collect rainwater into a plastic tub if you need too.. If you absolutely had no choice, you could drink the water in the toilet tank (the top part obviously) or drain your hot water tank.. I save laundry detergent container and add water to it so there is some soapy water just in case its needed for a shower or washing clothes. A small solar panel is good to have. I have seen ppl make a sand heater with a metal bucket filled with sand and a piece of copper, they heat the copper with a candle and the copper heats the sand.. all good things to know!!

I recently was cleaning and found a notebook from 2019 on things I wanted to get. It felt so daunting at the time. But as I read through the notebook it dawned on me that we now had most of those things. I considered what we’d used and what was collecting dust or hadn’t been used. I have so many things left I’d like to do but I know that it’s just a step by step process that leaves us better than if we’d done nothing. I know people who don’t prep at all because in their mind they feel it’s pointless and prefer to live in denial/ head in the sand. That’s incredibly sad to me

Leisa - I have been following you for a few years now. We had a very small thing happen this week but it made a big impact on me. Our truck went in for repairs on Monday - it is usually done the same day, however they needed parts so it wouldn't be done till Tuesday - they sent the wrong parts so it wouldn't be done till late Wednesday. We were going to go grocery shopping on Tuesday - we had enough milk to last till Tuesday - couldn't go till Thursday. I knew there were 2 cans of evaporated milk in the pantry but when I got them out they were best before 2020 - couldn't use them. It taught me two things - use up things while you still can and keep a bag of powdered milk in the pantry. That was one of the first things we bought at the grocery store and I also made sure to check the best by date on the package and use it up. Learned my lesson. Thanks for all you do.

My last two colds were really bad and a 4 oz bottle of cough syrup doesn't even last a day. And cough syrup is not cheap!!! Keep an eye out for the fleece blanket kits. Instead of putting a border around the layered blankets, put one long seam down the long side and sleep between the layers. This fabric will reflect any heat you generate back towards your body. Unlike a cotton quilt, it won't get cold to the touch if moisture condensation builds up.

I have always been good at putting 12 sq foot of things in a 10sq foot space ... I have a cabin in the semi middle of nowhere in the UP ... 3 months is the most you need in a city / town setting ... honestly if things are not better in 4 weeks > you are probably going to be forced to relocate > is a permanent SHTF life changing scenario.
Bucket food ... as you said > are all 95% Rice, Pasta, Oatmeal and Cream of Wheat and take a Lot of water ... people will regret going that option.
Also as you said have enough of Meds, First Aid and such ... plus 6 months of Soap, Shampoo. Toothpaste and such > those items could be hard to find in certain scenarios ... Toilet Paper and Paper towels are a given ... A year of Toilet paper as a base is not that big of a deal.
