MakeupByMariieGB same here. I came here just to understand the story.
Samia here
My native language is English and I had a hard time figuring it out myself.
I wish u were my teacher
no joke.
That's exactly what I said :)
This book seemed quite difficult to understand at first and I was worried because of my literature exam. Thanks Rebecca, I had a pretty good mark in the analysis section of "Hills like white elephants" and "A rose for Emily". A hug from Puerto Montt, Chile :)
Que estas estudiando/ como se llama tu carera?? Y porque eligiste eso? Que quieres hacer
despues de tus estudios con tu examen? Quiero estudiar en Chile y me gusta mucho la literatura! Espero que te fue bien en tus estudios!
Hug from sweden! :)
I read the story and did not understand it as well as I needed to for one of my classes. After watching this video and going over it a few more times, I feel well prepared for my classes discussion of the story. This was a helpful, useful and well made video.
Graham Bany You're welcome! Hope the class discussion is interesting!
I read this story about 50 years ago as a freshman in college. I always thought I got it, but your explanation puts a whole new lens on my understanding of the story. Thank you for your thorough analysis in a welcoming and engaging conversational tone.
This is much better than taking the actual classes. My teacher is so arrogant. Good job!
Omg.. I remember this channel. It helped me to get A+ on all of my English classes. Loved it.
Thank you so much for creating these videos. When I watch your videos, I get a clearer grasp of the story lines. I watched all of your "Young Goodman Brown," videos as well and they really helped me out with understanding the story. THANK YOU!
I can not thank you enough for creating this video. After being assigned this short story, I did not understand it one bit! When I watched this video, I understood perfectly! Thank you so, SO much!! You're awesome!
wow there goes my homework in lit class.. you made the story a whole lot understandable! :)) thanks!
I am sooo happy I found you, this helps me understand much more, I have a difficult time retaining information I read. Your video on "The Cask of Amontillado' Helped tremendously and I got a 100 on the quiz! Thank you!!
Thank you so much for this huge and very vivid interpretation of the short story, ma'am! Kinda great help to me as a student who wanted to know the real gist of the story!!! ❤️ ❤️ ❤️ You deserve an applause! And with what you did, I am immensely grateful for seeing your video and it really helped me understand a lot about the story rather than reading the whole story alone.
Thank you for being the only person to have the right facts and to read along and break down each point. This has helped a ton and people like you make American Literature really fun to read!
This was supremely helpful. I listened to an audio of the story three times and retained virtually nothing, and listening to you explain it helped so much.
Thank You so very much for your post. I've just completed a 7 page analysis for an English class on this story and couldn't have done it without your insights. It was truly valuable. Thanks again. :) I appreciate it.
Thank you Rebecca for your wonderful help! You helped me understand this story and see it in a very different perspective. Thank you for taking the time, you are a very smart woman!
ps. I like your glasses
I really enjoy your short story reviews. You help me understand the otherwise confusing stories. Thank you! You're amazing
Your amazing!!! I listened to the regular audio and didn’t understand a thing, NOW when u explained is a whole different thing!! I have watched all your videos!!! Thank you for being awesome!!!!
I am so glad I found your video. I couldn't understand the story, like i've read it probably ten times and just thankful for your brief but thorough explanation. you helped me with this this year 2022

I have been taking English this semester and for every story, I have come to your youtube and listened from you. Thank you so much!
This was wonderful! Thank you so much for making this. I really like your casual lectures.
Thank you so much Rebecca!
We are reading this in English class and are going to write an analysis on the text.
Your video was so helpful!
And I think that you are very inspiring! Subscribed!
Thank you again Rebecca Balcarcel!
Thank you so much for posting this! I read the story and it was very hard to read because honestly it was pretty boring. So I followed along with an audio reading here on youtube and that helped me understand it better. Then I watched your video and it helped me understand the whole story and I realized that it's not a boring story at all its actually crazy interesting and scary! Thanks so much for your time (:
One of the best in depth explanations I’ve found! Thank you so much!!
Best youtube video! I used this and my own thoughts for my essay, I love that you actually read the story! So many professors are just using their own language, and not from the book... So much easier to follow!
Carla Price - Lybarger Wow, thanks! So glad you found it useful!
You've probably heard this a million times, but thank you! I never would of gotten the idea that she was preventing the town from moving on or any of the other ideas that you talked about at the end without your help!
Amazing. Just amazing. You described the story so well and analyzed it in a way I hadn't though about. You really helped a high school student!
I love gothic stories! I am a college art history major so not as many English classes in my life these days 🥺 but I still love watching these videos! Thank you for your analysis!
Thanks for making this video! I'm answering some questions for my English class and this has helped me a lot in understanding it. It is a weird and creepy story, yet reflective in how the Southern was dying by that period and the things "love" or a mental illness will make you do. Or something like that. Once again, thanks! You've saved my life :) haha
I CAN’T THANK YOU ENOUGH. THIS IS AN AMAZINGLY HELPFUL VIDEO. THANK YOU SO MUCH ♥️♥️♥️
Dang, you turn a difficult and dead story to read into an interesting and living story! You did it with one of my other assignments and yet again!
Thank you so much! You help me out soo much when it comes to understanding these different stories! You are a lifesaver!!
You're welcome! Glad to help!
Thanks for the breakdown. I listened to a video of this story just before listening to your video, and it helped to understand the significance quite a bit. Thank you.
You did a GREAT job explaining this story to me :)
Your videos help me so much! I could have never passed my class without you!!
Journey Lynn Oh good! Glad your class went well. Thanks for watching!
Thank you so much, I have read this story again and again but really didn't understand the story. It was complicated and phrased some words in a way i didn't understand. It took days to get the outline of the story but only 20 mins with you to understand everything. Keep doing what you're doing
I cannot thank you enough. You have helped me through so many assignments. THANK YOU !
watching this for a school essay :(
Thank you so much for this video. Not much people would really go though the whole story so descriptive and well explained like you have. I am from abroad and having to read this and understand was impossible. Even though I do write and speak english, reading with understanding is my weakness. Now I can re read, and write my literary analysis essay.
We have to read this in Honors English 9...thank you so much! Totally helped me out!
VintageRebel You're welcome! Glad this helped. :-)

I AM SO GLAD I FOUND YOUR VIDEO!! My English Comp. 2 professor is having us write a two page argument essay on whether Emily is a villain, a victim or both. When I first started to read this, I had no idea what I was reading and couldn't understand it. Your video explanation helps so so much!! I'm even taking notes so when I actually sit down to read it, I will understand it all. THANK YOU!!! Would love to see more videos like this! There are sooooo many different writings out there that are hard to understand and doing this, really helps people understand what they're reading.
Thank you lady. That helped me to collect all the periods of the events
This helped me A LOT. I was very stuck on the whole idea of what the conflict part was. Thank you for all your help! Your a great teacher !!! :)

you are so amazing honestly this has helped me so muchhh specially because im a translating student!!!! you are so brilliant thank you very much !! really nice job god bless u
I have been listening to your post for two weeks now. I am so glad that you gave much insight into this. I had watched the film which my professor had asked to watch and when I got to the end I had noticed I had thought it was Homer in bed. I saw the wedding dress and the other belongings she had bought for him. I too thought this man was gay, but there was one scene in the 1983 film that lead me to think otherwise when you see them being intimate with one another. I could also tell the towns people saw Emily as a burden in their town as they were always moving forward, or stopping their daily lives to revolve around her. Thanks again for a better insight, being that I have a better understanding you have helped my "B's" become "A's" in my Lit. class. will be visiting a lot more :-) thanks again.
You're welcome! You have good insights. Glad to have you dropping by!
> I too thought this man was gay, but there was one scene in the 1983 film that lead me to think otherwise when you see them being intimate with one another.
Just remember one thing: The director, screenwriters, and actors in that movie are working from exactly the same source material that you have. That scene of intimacy does not exist in the short story. Don't assume that the movie makers have any better insight into Faulkner's mind than you do.
David Rosenblatt yes, Very true. No one can known what Faulkner was thinking. I just loved how it all came together in the in end. The smell the town had smelt all made sense at the very end of the movie. I believe Emily had horrible anxiety problems as her father kept her very sheltered and away from the world around her. Once she met Homer, it's like her views changed she got a glimpse
of the outside world and what her take on love felt like. Therefore, to keep him close to her always and to never leave her side she kills him and keeps him confined in her room with the belongings she bought for them.
This was such a great interpretation of the story! The first time reading it I partially got it but the way you explained it made much more sense. The ending still creeps me out! :o)
Read-Aloud / Think-Aloud. I teach this story every year to 8th graders. They love it. You hit most points--well done!
Thank you!!!! here is 2023 and this video helped me a lot. :)

You did so well helping me better understand and make sense of what I also thought was the point this short story was trying to conclude.
I have looked on your page and was wondering if you also have an analysis on James Joyce’s “Araby” so I can make better sense of it as well for my Lit thesis on short stories?
Thank you so much, I was a little confused, but your review cleared that up.
