    I have been listening to your post for two weeks now. I am so glad that you gave much insight into this. I had watched the film which my professor had asked to watch and when I got to the end I had noticed I had thought it was Homer in bed. I saw the wedding dress and the other belongings she had bought for him. I too thought this man was gay, but there was one scene in the 1983 film that lead me to think otherwise when you see them being intimate with one another. I could also tell the towns people saw Emily as a burden in their town as they were always moving forward, or stopping their daily lives to revolve around her. Thanks again for a better insight, being that I have a better understanding you have helped my "B's" become "A's" in my Lit. class. will be visiting a lot more :-) thanks again.

      > I too thought this man was gay, but there was one scene in the 1983 film that lead me to think otherwise when you see them being intimate with one another.
      Just remember one thing: The director, screenwriters, and actors in that movie are working from exactly the same source material that you have. That scene of intimacy does not exist in the short story. Don't assume that the movie makers have any better insight into Faulkner's mind than you do.

    • @GamsVB
      @GamsVB 9 лет назад

      David Rosenblatt yes, Very true. No one can known what Faulkner was thinking. I just loved how it all came together in the in end. The smell the town had smelt all made sense at the very end of the movie. I believe Emily had horrible anxiety problems as her father kept her very sheltered and away from the world around her. Once she met Homer, it's like her views changed she got a glimpse
      of the outside world and what her take on love felt like. Therefore, to keep him close to her always and to never leave her side she kills him and keeps him confined in her room with the belongings she bought for them.
